From syntatic standards to semantic standards in the agri-food logistics domain

This paper identifies gaps in standardization of agri-food logistics. Out of the European FP7 SmartAgriFood project a framework for classifying existing standards within the agri-food supply chain is introduced. Furthermore the characteristics to which a semantic standard should adhere are investigated. The standards classified as semantic out of the framework are assessed along these properties. The resulting conclusion is that the standards that are already present in the chain are more focused on syntax and lack semantic properties.

Neurolinguistic measure of typological effects in multilingual transfer: introducing an ERP methodology

This article has two main objectives. First, we offer an introduction to the subfield of generative third language (L3) acquisition. Concerned primarily with modeling initial stages transfer of morphosyntax, one goal of this program is to show how initial stages L3 data make significant contributions toward a better understanding of how the mind represents language and how (cognitive) economy constrains acquisition processes more generally. Our second objective is to argue for and demonstrate how this subfield will benefit from a neuro/psycholinguistic methodological approach, such as event-related potential experiments, to complement the claims currently made on the basis of exclusively behavioral experiments. The research investigates the acoustic-phonetic correlates of various levels of syntactic boundaries and the perception of prosody in Mandarin Chinese, more specifically, the way speakers express the syntatic relations between sentence compounents and teh perceptual representations of prosody. The relation between phonology and syntax in Chinese language is studied by comparing the perceptual representations and syntactic structures of sentences. The results may have theoretical and practical implications for research in fields of speech perception, linguistics and psycholinguistics, and for the development of speech engineering in China.
