Staff and students of the Surveying and Spatial Sciences discipline at QUT have worked collaboratively with the Institute of Sustainable Resources in the creation and development of spatial information layers and infrastructure to support multi-disciplinary research efforts at the Samford Ecological Research Facility (SERF). The SERF property is unique in that it provides staff and students with a semi-rural controlled research base for multiple users. This paper aims to describe the development of a number of spatial information layers and network of survey monuments that assist and support research infrastructure at SERF. A brief historical background about the facility is presented along with descriptions of the surveying and mapping activities undertaken. These broad ranging activities include introducing monument infrastructure and a geodetic control network; surveying activities for aerial photography ground-control targets including precise levelling with barcode instruments; development of an ortho-rectified image spatial information layer; Real-Time-Kinematic Global Positioning Systems (RTK-GPS) surveying for constructing 100metre confluence points/monuments to support science-based disciplines to undertake environmental research transects and long-term ecological sampling; and real-world learning initiative to assist with water engineering projects and student experiential learning. The spatial information layers and physical infrastructure have been adopted by two specific yet diverse user groups with an interest in the long-term research focus of SERF.

It was published by the Mississippi River Commission ca. 1895. Scale 1:10,000. Covers the City of New Orleans and adjacent portions of Jefferson and St. Bernard Parishes. This layer is image 1 of 4 total images of the four sheet source map, representing the northeast portion of the map. The image inside the map neatline is georeferenced to the surface of the earth and fit to the Louisiana State Plane Coordinate System, South NAD83 (in Feet) (Fipszone 1702). All map collar and inset information is also available as part of the raster image, including any inset maps, profiles, statistical tables, directories, text, illustrations, or other information associated with the principal map. In dryland cotton cropping systems, the main weeds and effectiveness of management practices were identified, and the economic impact of weeds was estimated using information collected in a postal and a field survey of Southern Queensland and northern New South Wales. Forty-eight completed questionnaires were returned, and 32 paddocks were monitored in early and late summer for weed species and density. The main problem weeds were bladder ketmia (Hibiscus trionum), common sowthistle (Sonchus oleraceus), barnyard grasses (Echinochloa spp.), liverseed grass (Urochloa panicoides) and black bindweed (Fallopia convolvulus), but the relative importance of these differed with crops, fallows and crop rotations. The weed flora was diverse with 54 genera identified in the field survey. Control of weed growth in rotational crops and fallows depended largely on herbicides, particularly glyphosate in fallow and atrazine in sorghum, although effective control was not consistently achieved. Weed control in dryland cotton involved numerous combinations of selective herbicides, several non-selective herbicides, inter-row cultivation and some manual chipping. Despite this, residual weeds were found at 38-59% of initial densities in about 3-quarters of the survey paddocks. The on-farm financial costs of weeds ranged from $148 to 224/ha.year depending on the rotation, resulting in an estimated annual economic cost of $19.6 million. The approach of managing weed populations across the whole cropping system needs wider adoption to reduce the weed pressure in dryland cotton and the economic impact of weeds in the long term. Strategies that optimise herbicide performance and minimise return of weed seed to the soil are needed. Data from the surveys provide direction for research to improve weed management in this cropping system. The economic framework provides a valuable measure of evaluating likely future returns from technologies or weed management improvements.

The recently developed network-wide real-time signal control strategy TUC has been implemented in three traffic networks with quite different traffic and control infrastructure characteristics: Chania, Greece (23 junctions); Southampton, UK (53 junctions); and Munich, Germany (25 junctions), where it has been compared to the respective resident real-time signal control strategies TASS, SCOOT and BALANCE. After a short outline of TUC, the paper describes the three application networks; the application, demonstration and evaluation conditions; as well as the comparative evaluation results. The main conclusions drawn from this high-effort inter-European undertaking is that TUC is an easy-to-implement, inter-operable, low-cost real-time signal control strategy whose performance, after very limited fine-tuning, proved to be better or, at least, similar to the ones achieved by long-standing strategies that were in most cases very well fine-tuned over the years in the specific networks.

国家“九五”重大科学工程项目一兰州重离子加速器冷却储存环工程 CIRFL-CSR),其准直安装由于所涉及的范围大,对元件的定位精度要求极高,所以难度很大.针对工程的特殊要求和具体情况,我们在HIRFL-CSR的准直安装中采取了一系列新的方法和仪器.其中包括建立测量控制网,使用激光跟踪仪进行测量和安装定位.本论文主要介绍了HIRFL-CSR的准直安装的总体方案佩介绍了SMX4500型激光跟踪仪的特点和主要功能佩结合激光跟踪仪的特点,建立了CSR准直安装数据库系统;测量控制网的设计.结合工程的具体特点和仪器的功能,我们拟定了“分层建网,逐段控制”的建网方案.分别设计了CSRm, CSRer前注入线,RIB II各个部分的控制网,以及全局控制网.控制网图用AUTOCAD2000直接在相应的工程图上绘出,再将控制网参数输入到NASEW95中进行平差计算.并且编写了从AUTOCAD2000到NASEW95的数据交换程序,实现了数据交换的自动化.在控制网设计的过程中,采用了方便高效的“自由设站”的方法,和传统的方法相比,用较小的工作量,获得了更多的参加平差的网点.另外,采用了一种特殊形式的闭合延伸导线延伸网,使环上的控制网点的数量减少一半以上,而精度却有所增加。根据激光跟踪仪的特点,建立了一个关系数据库系统,并编写了其前端应用程序,实现了HIRFL-CSR准直安装过程中的数据存储,坐标转换,以及必要的文件格式转换等功能.对于安装定位,采取以下措施:分别建立元件坐标系,局部坐标系和全局坐标系,然后用坐标转换的方法,将不可见的元件磁中心的局部坐标值,转化为安装定位时可用的靶标座的局部坐标值,最后用激光跟踪仪进行安装定位.在安装定位过程中,由于激光跟踪仪可同时监测靶标点的X,Y,Z坐标,所以元件的平面坐标值(X, Y)和竖直方向的坐标值(Z)可同时考虑,一次调整完.改变了传统的准直过程中的元件的水平和平面位置分两次调整的方法.

针对cSR元件定位要求高精度,元件数量多,分布范围广的特点,本沦文详细介绍了主环测量控制网的建立过程,以及运用激光跟踪仪测量三维I程控制网的方法,并给出了控制网的测量结果。这种测网方法有别于传统测量学中平面网和高程网相分离的处理办法,在国内加速器准直同行中是没有过的。在元件准直部分,着重叙述了元件准直的思想和方法。通过FidLlcial过程建立元件坐标系以确定靶标点的坐标位置。用激光跟踪仪测量控制网,恢复局部坐标系,移动测量坐标系到元件的理论中心。运用跟踪仪实时监测靶标点的三维坐标值,就可以很方便地调整磁铁的位置。最后用自编软件Best-fit给出调节结果。该方法思想比较新颖,也是我们准直测量组的一个创举。第四章介绍了最佳拟合的理沦依据和计算方法并且给出了Mat 1 abs.3环境下的原代码,我们用最佳拟合的结果来描述磁铁最后的位置。第五章介绍的非接触测量是测量界比较热的研究课题之一,结合我们自己的条件,发展了控制网加全站仪的方法,当然这一方法还有待进一步研究;最后用很少的篇幅介绍了准直测量常用的Insigllt4.O等基本软件。

This article presents a survey of authorisation models and considers their ‘fitness-for-purpose’ in facilitating information sharing. Network-supported information sharing is an important technical capability that underpins collaboration in support of dynamic and unpredictable activities such as emergency response, national security, infrastructure protection, supply chain integration and emerging business models based on the concept of a ‘virtual organisation’. The article argues that present authorisation models are inflexible and poorly scalable in such dynamic environments due to their assumption that the future needs of the system can be predicted, which in turn justifies the use of persistent authorisation policies. The article outlines the motivation and requirement for a new flexible authorisation model that addresses the needs of information sharing. It proposes that a flexible and scalable authorisation model must allow an explicit specification of the objectives of the system and access decisions must be made based on a late trade-off analysis between these explicit objectives. A research agenda for the proposed Objective-based Access Control concept is presented.

The following paper proposes a novel application of Skid-to-Turn maneuvers for fixed wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) inspecting locally linear infrastructure. Fixed wing UAVs, following the design of manned aircraft, commonly employ Bank-to-Turn ma- neuvers to change heading and thus direction of travel. Whilst effective, banking an aircraft during the inspection of ground based features hinders data collection, with body fixed sen- sors angled away from the direction of turn and a panning motion induced through roll rate that can reduce data quality. By adopting Skid-to-Turn maneuvers, the aircraft can change heading whilst maintaining wings level flight, thus allowing body fixed sensors to main- tain a downward facing orientation. An Image-Based Visual Servo controller is developed to directly control the position of features as captured by onboard inspection sensors. This improves on the indirect approach taken by other tracking controllers where a course over ground directly above the feature is assumed to capture it centered in the field of view. Performance of the proposed controller is compared against that of a Bank-to-Turn tracking controller driven by GPS derived cross track error in a simulation environment developed to replicate the field of view of a body fixed camera.

Inspection aircraft equipped with cameras and other sensors are routinely used for asset location, inspection, monitoring and hazard identification of oil-gas pipelines, roads, bridges and power transmission grids. This paper is concerned with automated flight of fixed-wing inspection aircraft to track approximately linear infrastructure. We propose a guidance law approach that seeks to maintain aircraft trajectories with desirable position and orientation properties relative to the infrastructure under inspection. Furthermore, this paper also proposes the use of an adaptive maneuver selection approach, in which maneuver primitives are adaptively selected to improve the aircraft’s attitude behaviour. We employ an integrated design methodology particularly suited for an automated inspection aircraft. Simulation studies using full nonlinear semi-coupled six degree-of-freedom equations of motion are used to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed guidance and adaptive maneuver selection approaches in realistic flight conditions. Experimental flight test results are given to demonstrate the performance of the design.
