In this technical note, it is established that the unassignable polynomial defined for a not strongly connected decentralized control system is not equal to Davison's fixed polynomial. This leads to a "sufficient condition" for the equality of the unassignable polynomial and Davison's fixed polynomial for strongly connected systems.

Networks such as organizational network of a global company play an important role in a variety of knowledge management and information diffusion tasks. The nodes in these networks correspond to individuals who are self-interested. The topology of these networks often plays a crucial role in deciding the ease and speed with which certain tasks can be accomplished using these networks. Consequently, growing a stable network having a certain topology is of interest. Motivated by this, we study the following important problem: given a certain desired network topology, under what conditions would best response (link addition/deletion) strategies played by self-interested agents lead to formation of a pairwise stable network with only that topology. We study this interesting reverse engineering problem by proposing a natural model of recursive network formation. In this model, nodes enter the network sequentially and the utility of a node captures principal determinants of network formation, namely (1) benefits from immediate neighbors, (2) costs of maintaining links with immediate neighbors, (3) benefits from indirect neighbors, (4) bridging benefits, and (5) network entry fee. Based on this model, we analyze relevant network topologies such as star graph, complete graph, bipartite Turan graph, and multiple stars with interconnected centers, and derive a set of sufficient conditions under which these topologies emerge as pairwise stable networks. We also study the social welfare properties of the above topologies.

In this paper we first derive a necessary and sufficient condition for a stationary strategy to be the Nash equilibrium of discounted constrained stochastic game under certain assumptions. In this process we also develop a nonlinear (non-convex) optimization problem for a discounted constrained stochastic game. We use the linear best response functions of every player and complementary slackness theorem for linear programs to derive both the optimization problem and the equivalent condition. We then extend this result to average reward constrained stochastic games. Finally, we present a heuristic algorithm motivated by our necessary and sufficient conditions for a discounted cost constrained stochastic game. We numerically observe the convergence of this algorithm to Nash equilibrium. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

We give in this paper several suffieient conditions for the existence of negative energy bound states in a purely attractive potential without spherical symmetry. These conditions generalize the condition obtained recently by K. Chadan and A. Martin (C. R. Acad. Sci. Paris290 (1980), 151), and can ensure the existence of n bound states. For the spherically symmetric case, one gets simple formulae which are also new.

A graph is singular if the zero eigenvalue is in the spectrum of its 0-1 adjacency matrix A. If an eigenvector belonging to the zero eigenspace of A has no zero entries, then the singular graph is said to be a core graph. A ( k,t)-regular set is a subset of the vertices inducing a k -regular subgraph such that every vertex not in the subset has t neighbours in it. We consider the case when k=t which relates to the eigenvalue zero under certain conditions. We show that if a regular graph has a ( k,k )-regular set, then it is a core graph. By considering the walk matrix we develop an algorithm to extract ( k,k )-regular sets and formulate a necessary and sufficient condition for a graph to be Hamiltonian.

In this paper, robustness of parametric systems is analyzed using a new approach to interval mathematics called Modal Interval Analysis. Modal Intervals are an interval extension that, instead of classic intervals, recovers some of the properties required by a numerical system. Modal Interval Analysis not only simplifies the computation of interval functions but allows semantic interpretation of their results. Necessary, sufficient and, in some cases, necessary and sufficient conditions for robust performance are presented

We give necessary and sufficient conditions for a pair of (generali- zed) functions 1(r1) and 2(r1, r2), ri 2X, to be the density and pair correlations of some point process in a topological space X, for ex- ample, Rd, Zd or a subset of these. This is an infinite-dimensional version of the classical “truncated moment” problem. Standard tech- niques apply in the case in which there can be only a bounded num- ber of points in any compact subset of X. Without this restriction we obtain, for compact X, strengthened conditions which are necessary and sufficient for the existence of a process satisfying a further re- quirement—the existence of a finite third order moment. We general- ize the latter conditions in two distinct ways when X is not compact.

Some necessary and sufficient conditions for closed-loop eigenstructure assignment by output feedback in time-invariant linear multivariable control systems are presented. A simple condition on a square matrix necessary and sufficient for it to be the closed-loop plant matrix of a given system with some output feedback is the basis of the paper. Some known results on entire eigenstructure assignment are deduced from this. The concept of an inner inverse of a matrix is employed to obtain a condition concerning the assignment of an eigenstructure consisting of the eigenvalues and a mixture of left and right eigenvectors.

The problem of robust oscillatory stability of uncertain systems is investigated in this article. For the uncertain systems, whose characteristic polynomial sets belong to the interval polynomial family or diamond polynomial family, sufficient and necessary conditions are given based on the stability and/or oscillation properties of some special extreme point polynomials. A systematic approach exploiting Yang's complete discrmination system is proposed to check the robust oscillatory stability of such uncertain systems. The proposed method is efficient in computation and can be easily implemented.
