Arte romana e pedreiras de mármore na Lusitânia: novos caminhos de investigação

Legar à posteridade em mármore uma cidade que recebeu constraída em tijolo foi uma das alegrias do Imperador Augusto ao fazer um balanço da sua vida, segundo Suetônio'. As propostas urbanísdcas do Princeps transformam-se em modelos para todas as novas cidades e capitais de colônia, incrementando-se deste modo o uso do mármore logo a pardr dos inícios do Império, perdurando ainda bem vivo nos finais do séc. IV, já numa sociedade em grande parte cristianizada. Séneca diz-nos, nos meados do séc. I d. C, que existia o ideal de que as paredes reluzissem com mármores importados da outra banda do mar, que se olhavam com admiração as crustae marmoriae que as revestiam e que era sinal do melhor estatuto caminhar sobre mármores. E Paciano de Barcelona, nos finais do séc. IV, encontra na renúncia ao marmoribus tegi, ao habitar em casas de mármore, uma forma de fazer penitência.

Descoloração redutiva de corantes azo e o efeito de mediadores redox na presença do aceptor de elétrons sulfato

We investigated the impact of sulphate and the redox mediator Anthraquinone-2,6-disulfonate (AQDS) on the decolorization of the azo dyes Congo Red (CR) and Reactive Black 5 (RB5). In anaerobic reactors free of extra sulphate dosage, the color removal efficiency decreased drastically when the external electron donor ethanol was removed. In presence of an extra dosage of sulphate, CR decolourisations were 47.8% (free of AQDS) and 96.5% (supplemented with AQDS). The decolourisations achieved in both reactors with RB5 were lower than the ones found with CR. Finally, the biogenic sulphide contribution on azo dye reduction was negligiable.

Effect of dye structure and redox mediators on anaerobic azo and anthraquinone dye reduction

We investigated the biological decolourisation of dyes with different molecular structures. The kinetic constant values (k1) achieved with azo dye Reactive Red 120 were 7.6 and 10.1 times higher in the presence of RM (redox mediators) AQDS and riboflavin, respectively, than the assays lacking RM. The kinetic constant achieved with the azo dye Congo Red was 42 times higher than that obtained with the anthraquinone dye Reactive Blue 4. The effect of RM on dye reduction was more evident for azo dyes resistant to reductive processes, and ineffective for anthraquinone dyes because of the structural stability of the latter.

Irrigation with domestic treated sewage and nitrogen fertilizing in sunflower cultivation

The objective of this study was to evaluate the productive performance of sunflower plants irrigated with different levels of domestic treated sewage and groundwater well with different doses of nitrogen. It was used randomized blocks design in split-split plots with four replications. In the plots, we evaluated the effect of two types of irrigation water, in the subplots we evaluated the five irrigation levels expressed as 25, 50, 75, 100 and 125% of the Class A pan Evaporation (CAE), and in the sub subplots, we evaluated the effect of four different doses of nitrogen (25, 50, 75 and 100 kg ha-1). The irrigation of sunflower with domestic sewage produced greater yield potential of grain and oil. The use of water from treated wastewater can replace up to 50 kg N ha-1 without affecting productivity. It is recommended for the commercial production of sunflower the use of treated sewage water with irrigation depth relative to 100% of CAE (296.64 mm) and nitrogen of 25 kg ha-1.
