A comparison of face and facial feature detectors based on the viola-jones general object detection framework

[EN]The human face provides useful information during interaction; therefore, any system integrating Vision- BasedHuman Computer Interaction requires fast and reliable face and facial feature detection. Different approaches have focused on this ability but only open source implementations have been extensively used by researchers. A good example is the Viola–Jones object detection framework that particularly in the context of facial processing has been frequently used.

Casco antiguo de Logroño: renovación frente a rehabilitación

La recuperación del casco antiguo de Logroño, con sus luces y sombras, es destacable por el desarrollo paralelo de dos modelos de intervención: la renovavión, mediante planes especiales o vaciados de edificios, y la rehabilitación de los edificios existentes. Estos modelos se han desarrollado durante un periodo de tiempo prolongado que abarca tres décadas, varios gobiernos municipales y diferentes ciclos económicos. Artículo desarrollado a partir del Análisis de 20 experiencias de rehabilitación urbana en España, realizado en el marco del «Análisis de las políticas estatales y europeas de regeneración urbana y rehabilitación de barrios», dirigido por Agustín Hernández Aja y desarrollado gracias a un convenio entre el Ministerio de Fomento y la Sección de Urbanismo del Instituto Juan de Herrera. Housing plans and urban rehabilitation in Spain, 1992-2012

This paper explores the urban rehabilitation projects promoted by the Spanish Government between 1992 and 2012 through housing plans. The analysis is based on the comparison of programmes and estimations gathered in these plans with actual housing production within this period in order to find the connection between sectoral housing planning and real estate cycles in these last twenty years. During the period under review, six state housing plans, that were mainly focused on the promotion of newly-constructed state-subsidised housing, were developed, including the Areas of Integrated Rehabilitation programmes (ARI programmes). In spite of the relevance and growing complexity of these programmes, these played a subsidiary role in the government housing policy and were insignificant regarding the whole real estate production in this period.

Patrones de infrautilización del parque residencial en las ciudades españolas

Resumen: La infrautilización del parque de viviendas en España se ha convertido en un problema que puede agravarse con las situaciones sobrevenidas tras el estallido de la burbuja inmobiliaria. En este contexto, el artículo aborda el análisis detallado de la dimensión y localización de dicho parque en el ámbito urbano aportando información que permita mejorar la gestión del existente y ajustar las previsiones del planeamiento a corto y medio plazo. Abstract: The significant unused housing stock in Spain has become a problem that may be aggravated by situations occurred after the burst of the housing bubble. In this context, the article discusses the detailed analysis of the size and location of the dwelling stock in urban areas providing information to improve the management of existing stock and adjust planning forecasts in short and medium term.

Gender stereotypes: sexuality and contraception in Mexican university students of middle class

Since feminist studies and gender perspective, sexuality and reproduction continue to be a topic of interest in Mexico. The objective of this study was to identify gender stereotypes in sexuality and contraception practices in Mexican university students of middle class. We used a qualitative methodology with in-depth interviews, using as analysis axes the sexual and contraception practices. The results showed gender stereotypes in university students as active, seductive and conquerors, characterized by a double standard of morality in the type of relationship: Formal where love, affection, trust and commitment are present, and Informal, where a love relationship or sexual exclusivity is not incorporated.

Identity and gender recognition using the ENCARA real-time face detector

The ENCARA system for face detection and normalization

[EN]Facial image processing is becoming widespread in human-computer applications, despite its complexity. High-level processes such as face recognition or gender determination rely on low-level routines that must e ectively detect and normalize the faces that appear in the input image. In this paper, a face detection and normalization system is described. The approach taken is based on a cascade of fast, weak classi ers that together try to determine whether a frontal face is present in the image.
