Guangxi Longtan Hydropower Station is not only a representative project of West Developing and Power Transmission from West to East in China, but also the second Hydropower Station to Three Gorges Project which is under construction in China. There are 770 X 104m3 creeping rock mass on the left bank slope in upper reaches, in which laid 9 water inlet tunnels and some underground plant buildings. Since the 435m high excavated slope threatens the security of the Dam, its deformation and stability is of great importance to the power station.Based on the Autodesk Map2004, Longtan Hydropower Station Monitoring Information System on Left Bank has been basically finished on the whole. Integrating the hydropower station monitoring information into Geographic Information System(GIS) environment, managers and engineers can dynamically gain the deformation information of the slop by query the symbols. By this means, designers can improve the correctness of analysis, and make a strategic and proper decision. Since the system is beneficial to effectively manage the monitoring-data, equitably save the cost of design and safe construction, and decrease the workload of the engineers, it is a successful application to the combination of hydropower station monitoring information management and computer information system technology. At the same time, on the basis of the geological analysis and rock mass toppling deformation and failure mechanism analysis of Longtan engineering left bank slope, the synthetic space-time analysis and influence factors analysis on the surface monitoring data and deep rock mass monitoring data of A-zone on left bank slope are carried on. It shows that the main intrinsic factor that effects the deformation of Zone A is the argillite limestone interbedding toppling structure, and its main external factors are rain and slope excavation. What's more, Degree of Reinforcement Demand(DRD) has been used to evaluate the slop reinforce effect of Zone A on left bank according to the Engineering Geomechanics-mate-Synthetics(EGMS). The result shows that the slop has been effective reinforced, and it is more stable after reinforce. At last, on the basis of contrasting with several forecast models, a synthetic forecast GRAV model has been presented and used to forecast the deformation of zone A on left bank in generating electricity period. The result indicates that GRAV model has good forecast precision, strong stability, and practical valuable reliability.

Silver colloids have been prepared by reducing AgNO3 in aqueous solution and embeded in alumina following a sol-gel procedure in the presence of Pluronic 84 ((EO)(19)(PO)(39)(EO)(19)), as surfactant. Plasma-catalytic experiments aimed at the mineralization of toluene showed that the selectivity to CO2 was significantly increased in the presence of Ag catalysts compared with results obtained using the plasma alone. In-situ studies of the ozone interaction with catalysts provide an insight into the nature of the active sites of supported silver colloids for mineralization reactions. It is noticeable that when ozone is chemisorbed on embedded Ag colloidal catalysts no change in the silver oxidation state or size is found. The population of the chemisorbed species is higher at lower temperatures, where the non-selective decomposition of ozone is smaller. The catalysts exhibit high stability, preserving the structural and textural properties after the catalytic tests, that is indeed very important in the presence of ozone. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. A numerical model of a tanpura string is presented, based on a recently developed, stability-preserving way of incorporating the non-smooth forces involved in the impactive distributed contact between the string and the bridge. By defining and modelling the string-bridge contact over the full length of the bridge, the simulated vibrations can be monitored through the force signals at both the bridge and the nut. As such it offers a reference model for both measurements and sound synthesis. Simulations starting from different types of initial conditions demonstrate that the model reproduces the main characteristic feature of the tanpura, namely the sustained appearance of a precursor in the force waveforms, carrying a band of overtones which decrease in frequency as the string vibrations decay. Results obtained with the numerical model are used to examine, through comparison, the effect of the bridge and of the thread on the vibrations.

For each ideal of multilinear mappings M we explicitly construct a corresponding ideal (a)M such that multilinear forms in (a)M are exactly those which can be approximated, in the uniform norm, by multilinear forms in M. This construction is then applied to finite type, compact, weakly compact and absolutely summing multilinear mappings. It is also proved that the correspondence M bar right arrow (a)M. In this thesis, we focus on the preparation of energy transfer-based quantum dot (QD)-dye hybrid systems. Two kinds of QD-dye hybrid systems have been successfully synthesized: QD-silica-dye and QD-dye hybrid systems.rn rnIn the QD-silica-dye hybrid system, multishell CdSe/CdS/ZnS QDs were adsorbed onto monodisperse Stöber silica particles with an outer silica shell of thickness 2 - 24 nm containing organic dye molecules (Texas Red). The thickness of this dye layer has a strong effect on the total sensitized acceptor emission, which is explained by the increase in the number of dye molecules homogeneously distributed within the silica shell, in combination with an enhanced surface adsorption of QDs with increasing dye amount. Our conclusions were underlined by comparison of the experimental results with Monte-Carlo simulations, and by control experiments confirming attractive interactions between QDs and Texas Red freely dissolved in solution. rnrnNew QD-dye hybrid system consisting of multishell QDs and organic perylene dyes have been synthesized. We developed a versatile approach to assemble extraordinarily stable QD-dye hybrids, which uses dicarboxylate anchors to bind rylene dyes to QD. This system yields a good basis to study the energy transfer between QD and dye because of its simple and compact design: there is no third kind of molecule linking QD and dye; no spacer; and the affinity of the functional group to the QD surface is strong. The FRET signal was measured for these complexes as a function of both dye to QD ratio and center-to-center distance between QD and dye by controlling number of covered ZnS layers. Data showed that fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) was the dominant mechanism of the energy transfer in our QD-dye hybrid system. FRET efficiency can be controlled by not only adjusting the number of dyes on the QD surface or the QD to dye distance, but also properly choosing different dye and QD components. Due to the strong stability, our QD-dye complexes can also be easily transferred into water. Our approach can apply to not only dye molecules but also other organic molecules. As an example, the QDs have been complexed with calixarene molecules and the QD-calixarene complexes also have potential for QD-based energy transfer study. rn

Late long-term potentiation (L-LTP) denotes long-lasting strengthening of synapses between neurons. L-LTP appears essential for the formation of long-term memory, with memories at least partly encoded by patterns of strengthened synapses. How memories are preserved for months or years, despite molecular turnover, is not well understood. Ongoing recurrent neuronal activity, during memory recall or during sleep, has been hypothesized to preferentially potentiate strong synapses, preserving memories. This hypothesis has not been evaluated in the context of a mathematical model representing ongoing activity and biochemical pathways important for L-LTP. In this study, ongoing activity was incorporated into two such models - a reduced model that represents some of the essential biochemical processes, and a more detailed published model. The reduced model represents synaptic tagging and gene induction simply and intuitively, and the detailed model adds activation of essential kinases by Ca(2+). Ongoing activity was modeled as continual brief elevations of Ca(2+). In each model, two stable states of synaptic strength/weight resulted. Positive feedback between synaptic weight and the amplitude of ongoing Ca(2+) transients underlies this bistability. A tetanic or theta-burst stimulus switches a model synapse from a low basal weight to a high weight that is stabilized by ongoing activity. Bistability was robust to parameter variations in both models. Simulations illustrated that prolonged periods of decreased activity reset synaptic strengths to low values, suggesting a plausible forgetting mechanism. However, episodic activity with shorter inactive intervals maintained strong synapses. Both models support experimental predictions. Tests of these predictions are expected to further understanding of how neuronal activity is coupled to maintenance of synaptic strength. Further investigations that examine the dynamics of activity and synaptic maintenance can be expected to help in understanding how memories are preserved for up to a lifetime in animals including humans.

Energy-based direct methods for transient stability analysis are potentially useful both as offline tools for planning purposes as well as for online security assessment. In this paper, a novel structure-preserving energy function (SPEF) is developed using the philosophy of structure-preserving model for the system and detailed generator model including flux decay, transient saliency, automatic voltage regulator (AVR), exciter and damper winding. A simpler and yet general expression for the SPEF is also derived which can simplify the computation of the energy function. The system equations and the energy function are derived using the centre-of-inertia (COI) formulation and the system loads are modelled as arbitrary functions of the respective bus voltages. Application of the proposed SPEF to transient stability evaluation of power systems is illustrated with numerical examples.

Direct stability analysis ofAC/DC power systems using a structure-preserving energy function (SPEF) is proposed in this paper. The system model considered retains the load buses thereby enabling the representation of nonlinear voltage dependent loads. TheHVDC system is represented with the same degree of detail as is normally done in transient stability simulation. The converter controllers can be represented by simplified or detailed models. Two or multi-terminalDC systems can be considered. The stability analysis is illustrated with a 3-machine system example and encouraging results have been obtained.

The ability of Static Var Compensators (SVCs) to rapidly and continuously control reactive power in response to changing system conditions can result in the improvement of system stability and also increase the power transfer in the transmission system. This paper concerns the application of strategically located SVCs to enhance the transient stability limits and the direct evaluation of the effect of these SVCs on transient stability using a Structure Preserving Energy Function (SPEF). The SVC control system can be modelled from the steady- state control characteristic to accurately simulate its effect on transient stability. Treating the SVC as a voltage-dependent reactive power load leads to the derivation of a path-independent SPEF for the SVC. Case studies on a 10-machine test system using multiple SVCs illustrate the effects of SVCs on transient stability and its accurate prediction.
