In this comment, we will point out some errors existing in Chen and Jiao (2010) from definitions to the proof of the main result, where the authors discussed the finite-time stability of stochastic nonlinear systems and proved a Lyapunov theorem on the finitetime stability.

This paper focuses on the finite-time stability and stabilization designs of stochastic nonlinear systems. We first present and discuss a definition on the finite-time stability in probability of stochastic nonlinear systems, then we introduce a stochastic Lyapunov theorem on the finite-time stability, which has been established by Yin et al. We also employ this theorem to design a continuous state feedback controller that makes a class of stochastic nonlinear systems to be stable in finite time. An example and a simulation are given to illustrate the theoretical analysis.

In this paper, the problem of global finite-time stabilisation by output feedback is considered for a class of stochastic nonlinear systems. First, based on homogeneous systems theory and the adding a power integrator technique, a homogeneous reduced order observer and control law are constructed in a recursive manner for the nominal system. Then, the homogeneous domination approach is used to deal with the nonlinearities in drift and diffusion terms; it is shown that the proposed output-feedback control law can guarantee that the closed-loop system is global finite-time stable in probability. Finally, simulation examples are carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

In this paper we study some properties of finite-time stable stochastic nonlinear systems. We begin by showing several continuous dependence theorems of solutions on initial values under some conditions on the coefficients of stochastic systems. We then derive some regular properties of its stochastic settling time for a finite-time stable stochastic nonlinear system. We show continuity, positive definiteness and boundedness of the expected stochastic settling time under appropriate conditions. Finally, a Lyapunov function is constructed by making use of the expectation of the stochastic settling time, and the infinitesimal generator of the stochastic system defined on the Lyapunov function is also given, and hence resulting in a converse Lyapunov theorem of finite-time stochastic stability.

This paper is concerned with the problem of finite-time stabilization for some nonlinear stochastic systems. Based on the stochastic Lyapunov theorem on finite-time stability that has been established by the authors in the paper, it is proven that Euler-type stochastic nonlinear systems can be finite-time stabilized via a family of continuous feedback controllers. Using the technique of adding a power integrator, a continuous, global state feedback controller is constructed to stabilize in finite time a large class of two-dimensional lower-triangular stochastic nonlinear systems. Also, for a class of three-dimensional lower-triangular stochastic nonlinear systems, a recursive design scheme of finite-time stabilization is given by developing the technique of adding a power integrator and constructing a continuous feedback controller. Finally, a simulation example is given to illustrate the theoretical results. © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

This paper presents a new fault detection and isolation scheme for dealing with simultaneous additive and parametric faults. The new design integrates a system for additive fault detection based on Castillo and Zufiria, 2009 and a new parametric fault detection and isolation scheme inspired in Munz and Zufiria, 2008 . It is shown that the so far existing schemes do not behave correctly when both additive and parametric faults occur simultaneously; to solve the problem a new integrated scheme is proposed. Computer simulation results are presented to confirm the theoretical studies.

Robust controllers for nonlinear stochastic systems with functional uncertainties can be consistently designed using probabilistic control methods. In this paper a generalised probabilistic controller design for the minimisation of the Kullback-Leibler divergence between the actual joint probability density function (pdf) of the closed loop control system, and an ideal joint pdf is presented emphasising how the uncertainty can be systematically incorporated in the absence of reliable systems models. To achieve this objective all probabilistic models of the system are estimated from process data using mixture density networks (MDNs) where all the parameters of the estimated pdfs are taken to be state and control input dependent. Based on this dependency of the density parameters on the input values, explicit formulations to the construction of optimal generalised probabilistic controllers are obtained through the techniques of dynamic programming and adaptive critic methods. Using the proposed generalised probabilistic controller, the conditional joint pdfs can be made to follow the ideal ones. A simulation example is used to demonstrate the implementation of the algorithm and encouraging results are obtained.

Following the recently developed algorithms for fully probabilistic control design for general dynamic stochastic systems (Herzallah & Káarnáy, 2011; Kárný, 1996), this paper presents the solution to the probabilistic dual heuristic programming (DHP) adaptive critic method (Herzallah & Káarnáy, 2011) and randomized control algorithm for stochastic nonlinear dynamical systems. The purpose of the randomized control input design is to make the joint probability density function of the closed loop system as close as possible to a predetermined ideal joint probability density function. This paper completes the previous work (Herzallah & Kárnáy, 2011; Kárný, 1996) by formulating and solving the fully probabilistic control design problem on the more general case of nonlinear stochastic discrete time systems. A simulated example is used to demonstrate the use of the algorithm and encouraging results have been obtained.

We consider stochastic individual-based models for social behaviour of groups of animals. In these models the trajectory of each animal is given by a stochastic differential equation with interaction. The social interaction is contained in the drift term of the SDE. We consider a global aggregation force and a short-range repulsion force. The repulsion range and strength gets rescaled with the number of animals N. We show that for N tending to infinity stochastic fluctuations disappear and a smoothed version of the empirical process converges uniformly towards the solution of a nonlinear, nonlocal partial differential equation of advection-reaction-diffusion type. The rescaling of the repulsion in the individual-based model implies that the corresponding term in the limit equation is local while the aggregation term is non-local. Moreover, we discuss the effect of a predator on the system and derive an analogous convergence result. The predator acts as an repulsive force. Different laws of motion for the predator are considered.

We consider an inversion-based neurocontroller for solving control problems of uncertain nonlinear systems. Classical approaches do not use uncertainty information in the neural network models. In this paper we show how we can exploit knowledge of this uncertainty to our advantage by developing a novel robust inverse control method. Simulations on a nonlinear uncertain second order system illustrate the approach.
