O presente relatório de estágio foi elaborado no âmbito da unidade curricular de Integração Curricular: Prática Educativa e Relatório de Estágio, integrada no plano de estudos do 2.º ano do Mestrado em Ensino do 1.º e 2.º Ciclo, afigurando-se como um requisito fundamental para a obtenção do grau de mestre. O mesmo espelha o percurso trilhado pela professora estagiária, que atendeu a um quadro teórico-legal e a uma análise criteriosa e cuidada dos contextos educativos onde esteve inserida, permitindo-lhe aprofundar os seus saberes e agir de forma mais informada num contexto educativo de especial complexidade. A metodologia de investigação-ação palmilhou toda a prática pedagógica da formanda, através de uma espiral cíclica de observação, planificação, ação e reflexão, promotoras do desenvolvimento da profissionalidade docente. Não obstante, a supervisão apresentou-se como um momento de excelência de crescimento pessoal e profissional, uma vez que promoveu o desenvolvimento de uma postura reflexiva e autocrítica na professora estagiária, motivada por momentos de reflexão partilhada. Ao longo desta jornada foram cruciais os contributos dados pelo par pedagógico, orientadores cooperantes e supervisores institucionais, com vista ao aperfeiçoamento das práticas e à adoção de estratégias de trabalho inovadoras, assentes no modelo socio construtivista do conhecimento. A escrita deste documento encerra o ciclo de formação inicial, estando a mestranda consciente de que o processo de crescimento se irá prolongar ao longo da sua vida, de modo a desenvolver práticas mais ricas e significativas, promotoras do desenvolvimento integral e integrado dos educandos, preparando-os para a vida em sociedade. The means of obtaining evidence, the amount of evidence obtained, the number of defendants related to each criminal case and the gravity of the crimes for which the magistrates of the Department are holders of penal action, define its real importance to the Rule of Law. I have deeply studied the subject of the institution of hierarchical intervention required by the assistant and the application of an opening statement by the defendant, starting from a hypothetical case, provided when the query of an investigation with the subject of the crime of active corruption, where this institution was called as a reaction to the archiving dispatch delivered by the Public Ministry. I have study about the implementation of the institution of provisional suspension of the process, specifically in the scope of fiscal criminality, analyzing the effective satisfaction of the purposes of the sentences in two slopes: general prevention and special prevention. I went for my first time to a Central Court of Criminal Instruction, where I attended the measures of inquiry and instructive debate of a process that culminated with the prosecution and pronunciation of the defendants. In addition to this criminal experience, I have deepened and consolidated the academic knowledge with the study of various criminal cases from various fields in the scope of criminality investigated by the Department. I could therefore check the basis of procedural delays, regarding to our legal system, especially in this type of crime, raising issues that I analyzed and discussed, always in a critical and academic way. I had the opportunity to attend and witness a seminar in the Lisbon Directorate of Finance as well of entering the Centre for Judicial Studies to attend a conference on the International Anti-Corruption Day. Focus on the investigatory importance of the international judicial cooperation, through the various organs, with special interest to EUROJUST. I comprehended the organization and functioning of these communitarian organs and means of communication of procedural acts, in particular, the rogatory letters and european arrest warrants. This involvement is motivated by the moratorium factor of the investigations where rogatory letters are necessary for the acquisition of evidence or information relevant to the good continuation of the process. For this reason the judicial cooperation through the relevant communitarian organs, translates a streamlined response between the competent judicial authorities of the Member States, through the National Member that integrates EUROJUST. This report aims to highlight some of the difficulties and procedural issues that Public Prosecutors of DCIAP and criminal police bodies that assist them, face in combating violent and organized crime, of national and transnational nature, of particular complexity, according to the specifics of criminal types.

Data mining is the process to identify valid, implicit, previously unknown, potentially useful and understandable information from large databases. It is an important step in the process of knowledge discovery in databases, (Olaru & Wehenkel, 1999). In a data mining process, input data can be structured, seme-structured, or unstructured. Data can be in text, categorical or numerical values. One of the important characteristics of data mining is its ability to deal data with large volume, distributed, time variant, noisy, and high dimensionality. A large number of data mining algorithms have been developed for different applications. For example, association rules mining can be useful for market basket problems, clustering algorithms can be used to discover trends in unsupervised learning problems, classification algorithms can be applied in decision-making problems, and sequential and time series mining algorithms can be used in predicting events, fault detection, and other supervised learning problems (Vapnik, 1999). Classification is among the most important tasks in the data mining, particularly for data mining applications into engineering fields. Together with regression, classification is mainly for predictive modelling. So far, there have been a number of classification algorithms in practice. According to (Sebastiani, 2002), the main classification algorithms can be categorized as: decision tree and rule based approach such as C4.5 (Quinlan, 1996); probability methods such as Bayesian classifier (Lewis, 1998); on-line methods such as Winnow (Littlestone, 1988) and CVFDT (Hulten 2001), neural networks methods (Rumelhart, Hinton & Wiliams, 1986); example-based methods such as k-nearest neighbors (Duda & Hart, 1973), and SVM (Cortes & Vapnik, 1995). Other important techniques for classification tasks include Associative Classification (Liu et al, 1998) and Ensemble Classification (Tumer, 1996).

Purpose - This editorial aims to introduce the special issue on employment discrimination against immigrants. Design/methodology/approach - The first part is a commentary on key issues in the study of employment discrimination against immigrants. The second part presents the five articles in the special issue. Findings - The papers in this special issue focus on a variety of issues associated with employment discrimination against immigrants. For example, they consider: discrimination based on accents; differences among justice perceptions among immigrants and non-immigrants; the effects of negative stereotypes on workplace outcomes; the treatment of Hispanic immigrants; and the reasons for the lack of research on Hispanic immigrants. Research limitations/implications - The author comments on key issues that researchers of employment discrimination against immigrants have to take into account. These issues include: the appreciation of the diversity among immigrants; an understanding of the complexity of employment discrimination research; openness to cross-disciplinary approaches; and the consideration of employment discrimination within the context of the immigrant experience. The five articles that make up the special issues vary in their nature (empirical, critical), methodologies (quantitative, qualitative), locations (United States, Germany, and Canada), and implications. Practical implications - The issues discussed in the papers have important implications for understanding and overcoming employment discrimination against immigrants. Originality/value - The Journal of Managerial Psychology invited this special issue to initiate psychological research on employment discrimination against immigrants. The intent is to draw the attention of organizational scholars to the large, yet under-studied immigrant segment of the workforce.

AIMS: To assess the impact of the biocontrol strain Pseudomonas fluorescens CHA0 on a collection of barley rhizosphere bacteria using an agar plate inhibition assay and a plant microcosm, focusing on a CHA0-sensitive member of the Cytophaga-like bacteria (CLB). METHODS AND RESULTS: The effect of strain CHA0 on a collection of barley rhizosphere bacteria, in particular CLB and fluorescent pseudomonads sampled during a growth season, was assessed by a growth inhibition assay. On average, 85% of the bacteria were sensitive in the May sample, while the effect was reduced to around 68% in the July and August samples. In the May sample, around 95% of the CLB and around 45% of the fluorescent pseudomonads were sensitive to strain CHA0. The proportion of CHA0-sensitive CLB and fluorescent pseudomonad isolates decreased during the plant growth season, i.e. in the July and August samples. A particularly sensitive CLB isolate, CLB23, was selected, exposed to strain CHA0 (wild type) and its genetically modified derivatives in the rhizosphere of barley grown in gnotobiotic soil microcosms. Two dry-stress periods were imposed during the experiment. Derivatives of strain CHA0 included antibiotic or exopolysaccharide (EPS) overproducing strains and a dry-stress-sensitive mutant. Despite their inhibitory activity against CLB23 in vitro, neither wild-type strain CHA0, nor any of its derivatives, had a major effect on culturable and total cell numbers of CLB23 during the 23-day microcosm experiment. Populations of all inoculants declined during the two dry-stress periods, with soil water contents below 5% and plants reaching the wilting point, but they recovered after re-wetting the soil. Survival of the dry-stress-sensitive mutant of CHA0 was most affected by the dry periods; however, this did not result in an increased population density of CLB23. CONCLUSIONS: CLB comprise a large fraction of barley rhizosphere bacteria that are sensitive to the biocontrol pseudomonad CHA0 in vitro. However, in plant microcosm experiments with varying soil humidity conditions, CHA0 or its derivatives had no major impact on the survival of the highly sensitive CLB strain, CLB23, during two dry-stress periods and a re-wetting period; all co-existed well in the rhizosphere of barley plants. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: Results indicate a lack of interaction between the biocontrol pseudomonad CHA0 and a sensitive CLB when the complexity increases from agar plate assays to plant microcosm experiments. This suggests the occurrence of low levels of antibiotic production and/or that the two bacterial genera occupy different niches in the rhizosphere.

In this paper we describe a taxonomy of task demands which distinguishes between Task Complexity, Task Condition and Task Difficulty. We then describe three theoretical claims and predictions of the Cognition Hypothesis (Robinson 2001, 2003b, 2005a) concerning the effects of task complexity on: (a) language production; (b) interaction and uptake of information available in the input to tasks; and (c) individual differences-task interactions. Finally we summarize the findings of the empirical studies in this special issue which all address one or more of these predictions and point to some directions for continuing, future research into the effects of task complexity on learning and performance.

Implementation of different policies and plans aiming at providing education for all is a challenge in Tanzania. The need for educators and professionals with relevant knowledge and qualifications in special education is substantial. Teacher education does not equip educators with sufficient knowledge and skills in special education and professional development programs in special education are few in number. Up to 2005 no degree programs in special education at university level were available in Tanzania. The B.Ed. Special Education program offered by the Open University of Tanzania in collaboration with Åbo Akademi University in Finland was one of the efforts aimed at addressing the big national need for teachers and other professionals with degree qualifications in special education. This pilot program offered unique possibilities to study professional development in Tanzania. The research group in this study consisted of the group of students who participated in the degree program 2005-2007. The study is guided by three theoretical perspectives: individual, social and societal. The individual perspective emphasizes psychological factors as motives, motivation, achievement, self-directed behavior and personal growth. Within social perspective, professional development is viewed as situated within the social and cultural context. The third perspective, the societal, focuses on change, reforms, innovations and transformation of school systems and societies. Accordingly, professional development is viewed as an individual, social and societal phenomenon. The overall aim of the study is to explore the participants’ motives for participating in a B.Ed. Special Education program and the perceived outcomes of the program in terms of professional development. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, a case study approach was adopted. Questionnaires and semi-structured interviews were administered in three waves between January 2007 and February 2009 to the 35 educators participating in the B.Ed. Special Education program. The findings of the study reveal that the participants expressed motives which were related to job performance, knowledge, skills, academic degree and career. Also altruistic motives were expressed by the participants in terms of helping and supporting students with special needs and their communities. The perceived outcomes of the program were in line with the expressed motives. However, the results indicate that the participants also learned new skills, as interaction skills and guidance and counseling skills. Increased self-confidence was also mentioned as an outcome. The participants also got deepened understanding of disability issues. In addition, they learned strategies for creating awareness of persons with disability in the communities. Thus the findings of the study indicate positive outcomes of the program in terms of professional development. The conclusion of the study is that individual, social and societal factors interact when it comes to explaining why Tanzanian educators in special education choose to pursue a degree program in special education. The individual motives, as increased knowledge and better prospects of career development interact with the social and societal motives to help and support vulnerable student groups. The study contributes to increased understanding of the complexity of professional development and of the realities educators meet when educational reforms are implemented in a developing country.

In this work we study the computational complexity of a class of grid Monte Carlo algorithms for integral equations. The idea of the algorithms consists in an approximation of the integral equation by a system of algebraic equations. Then the Markov chain iterative Monte Carlo is used to solve the system. The assumption here is that the corresponding Neumann series for the iterative matrix does not necessarily converge or converges slowly. We use a special technique to accelerate the convergence. An estimate of the computational complexity of Monte Carlo algorithm using the considered approach is obtained. The estimate of the complexity is compared with the corresponding quantity for the complexity of the grid-free Monte Carlo algorithm. The conditions under which the class of grid Monte Carlo algorithms is more efficient are given.

Recent excavations at Pre-Pottery Neolithic A (PPNA) WF16 in southern Jordan have revealed remarkable evidence of architectural developments in the early Neolithic. This sheds light on both special purpose structures and “domestic” settlement, allowing fresh insights into the development of increasingly sedentary communities and the social systems they supported. The development of sedentary communities is a central part of the Neolithic process in Southwest Asia. Architecture and ideas of homes and households have been important to the debate, although there has also been considerable discussion on the role of communal buildings and the organization of early sedentarizing communities since the discovery of the tower at Jericho. Recently, the focus has been on either northern Levantine PPNA sites, such as Jerf el Ahmar, or the emergence of ritual buildings in the Pre-Pottery Neolithic B of the southern Levant. Much of the debate revolves around a division between what is interpreted as domestic space, contrasted with “special purpose” buildings. Our recent evidence allows a fresh examination of the nature of early Neolithic communities.

This paper makes reference to the importance lying, at present, on the professional education of counselors. It goes through the history of the different pre-scientific and scientific stages of counseling, and it points out the main representatives in Latin America . It also shows the current state of the specialization, taking as an antecedent some in-depth, widely encompassing research carried out in the European Union in this area. Coincidences and differences are exposed here in terms of professional profiles, university degrees, institutional dependence, up-dating processes and modes of intervention. The current state of postgraduate studies at university is also touched upon, and the different proposals for further education in Latin America are analyzed as well as their dependence upon an undergraduate degree in Psychology, Educational Sciences or Psycho-pedagogy. Finally, this paper places counseling within the complexity and the need to provide all-encompassing and integrative answers which require a wide and deep enough education so as to answer all these issues and problems.

A clear statement in these lines textually cited (Byers et al., 1938) defines the framework of this special issue: “True soil is the product of the action of climate and living organism upon the parent material, as conditioned by the local relief. The length of time during which these forces are operative is of great importance in determining the character of the ultimate product. Drainage conditions are also important and are controlled by local relief, by the nature of the parent material or underlying rock strata, or by the amount of precipitation in relation to rate of percolation and runoff water. There are, therefore, five principal factors of soil formation: Parent material, climate, biological activity, relief and time. These soil forming factors are interdependent, each modifying the effectiveness of the others.” Due to these various processes associated to its formation and genesis soil dynamics reveals high complexity that creates several levels of structure using this term in a broad sense

Efficient hardware implementations of arithmetic operations in the Galois field are highly desirable for several applications, such as coding theory, computer algebra and cryptography. Among these operations, multiplication is of special interest because it is considered the most important building block. Therefore, high-speed algorithms and hardware architectures for computing multiplication are highly required. In this paper, bit-parallel polynomial basis multipliers over the binary field GF(2(m)) generated using type II irreducible pentanomials are considered. The multiplier here presented has the lowest time complexity known to date for similar multipliers based on this type of irreducible pentanomials.

In a globalised world, knowledge of foreign languages is an important skill. Especially in Europe, with its 24 official languages and its countless regional and minority languages, foreign language skills are a key asset in the labour market. Earlier research shows that over half of the EU27 population is able to speak at least one foreign language, but there is substantial national variation. This study is devoted to a group of countries known as the Visegrad Four, which comprises the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia. Although the supply of foreign language skills in these countries appears to be well-documented, less is known about the demand side. In this study, we therefore examine the demand for foreign language skills on the Visegrad labour markets, using information extracted from online job portals. We find that English is the most requested foreign language in the region, and the demand for English language skills appears to go up as occupations become increasingly complex. Despite the cultural, historical and economic ties with their German-speaking neighbours, German is the second-most-in-demand foreign language in the region. Interestingly, in this case there is no clear link with the complexity of an occupation. Other languages, such as French, Spanish and Russian, are hardly requested. These findings have important policy implications with regards to the education and training offered in schools, universities and job centres.
