Negli ultimi anni si è imposto il concetto di Ubiquitous Computing, ovvero la possibilità di accedere al web e di usare applicazioni per divertimento o lavoro in qualsiasi momento e in qualsiasi luogo. Questo fenomeno sta cambiando notevolmente le abitudini delle persone e ciò è testimoniato anche dal fatto che il mercato mobile è in forte ascesa: da fine 2014 sono 45 milioni gli smartphone e 12 milioni i tablet in circolazione in Italia. Sembra quasi impossibile, dunque, rinunciare al mobile, soprattutto per le aziende: il nuovo modo di comunicare ha reso necessaria l’introduzione del Mobile Marketing e per raggiungere i propri clienti ora uno degli strumenti più efficaci e diretti sono le applicazioni. Esse si definiscono native se si pongono come traguardo un determinato smartphone e possono funzionare solo per quel sistema operativo. Infatti un’app costruita, per esempio, per Android non può funzionare su dispositivi Apple o Windows Phone a meno che non si ricorra al processo di porting. Ultimamente però è richiesto un numero sempre maggiore di app per piattaforma e i dispositivi presenti attualmente sul mercato presentano differenze tra le CPU, le interfacce (Application Programming Interface), i sistemi operativi, l’hardware, etc. Nasce quindi la necessità di creare applicazioni che possano funzionare su più sistemi operativi, ovvero le applicazioni platform-independent. Per facilitare e supportare questo genere di lavoro sono stati definiti nuovi ambienti di sviluppo tra i quali Sencha Touch e Apache Cordova. Il risultato finale dello sviluppo di un’app attraverso questi framework è proprio quello di ottenere un oggetto che possa essere eseguito su qualsiasi dispositivo. Naturalmente la resa non sarà la stessa di un’app nativa, la quale ha libero accesso a tutte le funzionalità del dispositivo (rubrica, messaggi, notifiche, geolocalizzazione, fotocamera, accelerometro, etc.), però con questa nuova app vi è la garanzia di un costo di sviluppo minore e di una richiesta considerevole sul mercato. L’obiettivo della tesi è quello di analizzare questo scenario attraverso un caso di studio proveniente da una realtà aziendale che presenta proprio la necessità di sviluppare un’applicazione per più piattaforme. Nella prima parte della tesi viene affrontata la tematica del mobile computing e quella del dualismo tra la programmazione nativa e le web app: verranno analizzate le caratteristiche delle due diverse tipologie cercando di capire quale delle due risulti essere la migliore. Nella seconda parte sarà data luce a uno dei più importanti framework per la costruzione di app multi-piattaforma: Sencha Touch. Ne verranno analizzate le caratteristiche, soffermandosi in particolare sul pattern MVC e si potrà vedere un confronto con altri framework. Nella terza parte si tratterà il caso di studio, un app mobile per Retail basata su Sencha Touch e Apache Cordova. Nella parte finale si troveranno alcune riflessioni e conclusioni sul mobile platform-independent e sui vantaggi e gli svantaggi dell’utilizzo di JavaScript per sviluppare app.

Information technologies (ITs), and sports resources and services aid the potential to transform governmental organizations, and play an important role in contributing to sustainable communities development, respectively. Spatial data is a crucial source to support sports planning and management. Low-cost mobile geospatial tools bring productive and accurate data collection, and their use combining a handy and customized graphical user interface (GUI) (forms, mapping, media support) is still in an early stage. Recognizing the benefits — efficiency, effectiveness, proximity to citizens — that Mozambican Minister of Youth and Sports (MJD) can achieve with information resulted from the employment of a low-cost data collection platform, this project presents the development of a mobile mapping application (app) — m-SportGIS — under Open Source (OS) technologies and a customized evolutionary software methodology. The app development embraced the combination of mobile web technologies and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) (e.g. Sencha Touch (ST), Apache Cordova, OpenLayers) to deploy a native-to-the-device (Android operating system) product, taking advantage of device’s capabilities (e.g. File system, Geolocation, Camera). In addition to an integrated Web Map Service (WMS), was created a local and customized Tile Map Service (TMS) to serve up cached data, regarding the IT infrastructures limitations in several Mozambican regions. m-SportGIS is currently being exploited by Mozambican Government staff to inventory all kind of sports facilities, which resulted and stored data feeds a WebGIS platform to manage Mozambican sports resources.

Aquest projecte vol generar una aplicació per recollir les dades que els pacients crònics han d'anotar de forma periòdica com a forma de control. L'objectiu general del projecte en aquesta fase és que el pacient d'una malaltia crònica determinada pugui enregistrar les dades de control que s'agafen habitualment de forma autònoma amb un dispositiu mòbil intel·ligent.

En aquest projecte es pretén solucionar el problema d'accés als processos de treball de les normes ISO mitjançant una aplicació per a dispositius mòbils (telèfons i tabletes) que suporten HTML5 i CSS3. Aquesta aplicació de funcionament molt intuïtiu és accessible per a qualsevol empleat d'una empresa determinada, i li permet consultar els processos de treball que li apliquen.

En esta memoria se recoge toda la documentación que se genera en las etapas de desarrollo de un proyecto software: recogida inicial de requerimientos, análisis, diseño, implementación y validación. El software a desarrollar es un aplicativo mobile multiplataforma usando un framework de desarrollo ágil. El objetivo de dicha aplicación es crear una red para compartir información entre usuarios sobre el precio y la localización de los mejores souvenirs en cualquier parte del mundo.

El ciutadà, al veure un mobiliari urbà defectuós, un arbre trencat o paviment en mal estat, podrà reportar la incidència fàcilment a l'ajuntament per a la seva resolució.

Light touch of a fingertip on an external stable surface greatly improves the postural stability of standing subjects. The hypothesis of the present work was that a vibrating surface could increase the effectiveness of fingertip signaling to the central nervous system (e.g., by a stochastic resonance mechanism) and hence improve postural stability beyond that achieved by light touch. Subjects stood quietly over a force plate while touching with their right index fingertip a surface that could be either quiescent or randomly vibrated at two low-level noise intensities. The vibratory noise of the contact surface caused a significant decrease in postural sway, as assessed by center of pressure measures in both time and frequency domains. Complementary experiments were designed to test whether postural control improvements were associated with a stochastic resonance mechanism or whether attentional mechanisms could be contributing. A full curve relating body sway parameters and different levels of vibratory noise resulted in a U-like function, suggesting that the improvement in sway relied on a stochastic resonance mechanism. Additionally, no decrease in postural sway was observed when the vibrating contact surface was attached to the subject`s body, suggesting that no attentional mechanisms were involved. These results indicate that sensory cues obtained from the fingertip need not necessarily be associated with static contact surfaces to cause improvement in postural stability. A low-level noisy vibration applied to the contact surface could lead to a better performance of the postural control system.

Background: The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities (WOMAC) Osteoarthritis Index is a previously described self-administered questionnaire covering three domains: pain, stiffness and function. It has been validated in patients with osteoarthritis (OA) of the hip or knee in a paper-based format. Aim: To validate the WOMAC 3.0 using a numerical rating scale in a computerized touch screen format allowing immediate evaluation of the questionnaire. In the computed version cartoons, written and audio instruments were included in order facilitate application. Methods: Fifty patients, demographically balanced, with radiographically proven primary hip or knee OA completed the classical paper and the new computerized WOMAC version. Subjects were randomized either to paper format or computerized format first to balance possible order effects, Results: The intra-class correlation coefficients for pain, stiffness and function values were 0.915, 0.745 and 0.940, respectively. The Spearman correlation coefficients for pain, stiffness and function were 0.88, 0.77 and 0.87, respectively. Conclusion: These data indicate that the computerized WOMAC OA index 3.0 is comparable to the paper WOMAC in all three dimensions. The computerized version would allow physicians to get an immediate result and if present a direct comparison with a previous exam. (C) 2002 OsteoArthritis Research Society International. This project aimed to create a communication and interaction channel between Madeira Airport and its passengers. We used the pre-existent touch enabled screens at the terminal since their potential was not being utilised to their full capacity. To achieve our goal, we have followed an agile strategy to create a testable prototype and take advantages of its results. The developed prototype is based on a plugin architecture turning it into a maintainable and highly customisable system. The collected usage data suggests that we have achieved the initially defined goals. There is no doubt that this new interaction channel is an improvement regarding the provided services and, supported by the usage data, there is an opportunity to explore additional developments to the channel.

This study presents the results of preliminary test on the interaction between fingertip and touch screen. The objective of this study is to identify the fingertip posture when interacting with touch screen devices. Ten participants, 7 males and 3 females, participated in this study. The participants were asked to touch targets on the mobile devices screen by tapping them sequentially and connecting them. The participants performed the tasks in a sitting posture. A tablet with 10 inches screen and a mobile phone with 4 inches screen were used in the study. The results showed that all participants dominantly used their thumb to interact with the mobile phone in single and two hands postures. The common thumb posture adopted by the participants is the combination of the 60° pitch and 0° roll angles. While for interaction with tablet in various postures observed in the study, the participants commonly used their index fingers in the combination of 60° pitch and 0° roll angles. This study also observed the participant with long finger nails touched targets on the mobile devices screen by using her index or middle fingers very low pitch.
