Questa tesi di rassegna si pone l'obiettivo di esaminare i motivi che hanno portato alla progettazione del modello Software Defined Networking e analizzarne le caratteristiche principali. L'obiettivo è stato raggiunto attraverso un'analisi attenta dello stato dell'arte, in cui sono state evidenziate le problematiche dell'architettura tradizionale e i requisiti delle reti di nuova generazione che hanno portato i progettisti di rete a riconsiderare il modello attualmente diffuso. Dopo aver scritto in modo approfondito delle caratteristiche e dei benefici di SDN, è stata posta l'enfasi sul protocollo OpenFlow riconosciuto come fattore abilitante del modello oggetto della tesi. Infine sono state analizzate le soluzioni, che si ispirano a SDN, di tre colossi dell'informatica quali HP, Google e Cisco.

Las Redes Definidas por Software (Software Defined Networking) permiten la monitorización y el control centralizado de la red, de forma que los administradores pueden tener una visión real y completa de la misma. El análisis y visualización de los diferentes parámetros obtenidos representan la forma más viable y práctica de programar la red en función de las necesidades del usuario. Por este motivo, en este proyecto se desarrolla una arquitectura modular cuyo objetivo es presentar en tiempo real la información que se monitoriza en una red SDN. En primera instancia, las diferentes métricas monitorizadas (error, retardo y tasa de datos) son almacenadas en una base de datos, para que en una etapa posterior se realice el análisis de dichas métricas. Finalmente, los resultados obtenidos, tanto de métricas en tiempo real como de los datos estadísticos, son presentados en una aplicación web. La información es obtenida a través de la interfaz REST que expone el controlador Floodlight y para el análisis de la información se plantea una comparación entre los valores medios y máximos del conjunto de datos. Los resultados obtenidos muestran gráficamente de forma clara y precisa las diferentes métricas de monitorización. Además, debido al carácter modular de la arquitectura, se ofrece un valor añadido a los sistemas actuales de monitorización SDN.

Il paradigma “Software-Defined Networking” (SDN) ha suscitato recentemente interesse grazie allo sviluppo e all'implementazione di uno standard tecnologico come OpenFlow. Con il modello SDN viene proposta una rete programmabile tramite la separazione dell’unità di controllo e l'unità di instradamento, rendendo quindi i nodi di rete (come ad es. router o switch) esclusivamente hardware che inoltra pacchetti di dati secondo le regole dettate dal controller. OpenFlow rappresenta lo standard dominante nella tecnologia SDN in grado di far comunicare l'unità controller e l'hardware di uno o più nodi di rete. L'utilizzo di OpenFlow consente maggiore dinamicità e agevolazione nella personalizzazione della rete attraverso un'interfaccia utente, includendo svariate funzioni quali la modifica e l’automatizzazione delle regole di instradamento, la creazione di una rete virtuale dotata di nodi logici o la possibilità di monitorare il traffico accrescendo la sicurezza della propria rete.

The Google AdSense Program is a successful internet advertisement program where Google places contextual adverts on third-party websites and shares the resulting revenue with each publisher. Advertisers have budgets and bid on ad slots while publishers set reserve prices for the ad slots on their websites. Following previous modelling efforts, we model the program as a two-sided market with advertisers on one side and publishers on the other. We show a reduction from the Generalised Assignment Problem (GAP) to the problem of computing the revenue maximising allocation and pricing of publisher slots under a first-price auction. GAP is APX-hard but a (1-1/e) approximation is known. We compute truthful and revenue-maximizing prices and allocation of ad slots to advertisers under a second-price auction. The auctioneer's revenue is within (1-1/e) second-price optimal.

In questo elaborato si descrive l'emergente approccio alle reti, il Software Defined Network, ed i suoi benefici. Successivamente viene preso in considerazione un importante componente di questa nuova architettura: il protocollo OpenFlow; si spiega che cos'è e si elencano i benefici che può apportare ad un'architettura SDN a sostegno di questi vengono mostrati quattro differenti casi d'uso di OF, comparati poi ad altri scenari equivalenti che non usano questo protocollo. Infine si è pensato ad alcuni possibili studi e sviluppi circa quest'architettura.

Resource management is of paramount importance in network scenarios and it is a long-standing and still open issue. Unfortunately, while technology and innovation continue to evolve, our network infrastructure system has been maintained almost in the same shape for decades and this phenomenon is known as “Internet ossification”. Software-Defined Networking (SDN) is an emerging paradigm in computer networking that allows a logically centralized software program to control the behavior of an entire network. This is done by decoupling the network control logic from the underlying physical routers and switches that forward traffic to the selected destination. One mechanism that allows the control plane to communicate with the data plane is OpenFlow. The network operators could write high-level control programs that specify the behavior of an entire network. Moreover, the centralized control makes it possible to define more specific and complex tasks that could involve many network functionalities, e.g., security, resource management and control, into a single framework. Nowadays, the explosive growth of real time applications that require stringent Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees, brings the network programmers to design network protocols that deliver certain performance guarantees. This thesis exploits the use of SDN in conjunction with OpenFlow to manage differentiating network services with an high QoS. Initially, we define a QoS Management and Orchestration architecture that allows us to manage the network in a modular way. Then, we provide a seamless integration between the architecture and the standard SDN paradigm following the separation between the control and data planes. This work is a first step towards the deployment of our proposal in the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) campus network with differentiating services and stringent QoS requirements. We also plan to exploit our solution to manage the handoff between different network technologies, e.g., Wi-Fi and WiMAX. Indeed, the model can be run with different parameters, depending on the communication protocol and can provide optimal results to be implemented on the campus network.

In this paper, we first describe a framework to model the sponsored search auction on the web as a mechanism design problem. Using this framework, we describe two well-known mechanisms for sponsored search auction-Generalized Second Price (GSP) and Vickrey-Clarke-Groves (VCG). We then derive a new mechanism for sponsored search auction which we call optimal (OPT) mechanism. The OPT mechanism maximizes the search engine's expected revenue, while achieving Bayesian incentive compatibility and individual rationality of the advertisers. We then undertake a detailed comparative study of the mechanisms GSP, VCG, and OPT. We compute and compare the expected revenue earned by the search engine under the three mechanisms when the advertisers are symmetric and some special conditions are satisfied. We also compare the three mechanisms in terms of incentive compatibility, individual rationality, and computational complexity. Note to Practitioners-The advertiser-supported web site is one of the successful business models in the emerging web landscape. When an Internet user enters a keyword (i.e., a search phrase) into a search engine, the user gets back a page with results, containing the links most relevant to the query and also sponsored links, (also called paid advertisement links). When a sponsored link is clicked, the user is directed to the corresponding advertiser's web page. The advertiser pays the search engine in some appropriate manner for sending the user to its web page. Against every search performed by any user on any keyword, the search engine faces the problem of matching a set of advertisers to the sponsored slots. In addition, the search engine also needs to decide on a price to be charged to each advertiser. Due to increasing demands for Internet advertising space, most search engines currently use auction mechanisms for this purpose. These are called sponsored search auctions. A significant percentage of the revenue of Internet giants such as Google, Yahoo!, MSN, etc., comes from sponsored search auctions. In this paper, we study two auction mechanisms, GSP and VCG, which are quite popular in the sponsored auction context, and pursue the objective of designing a mechanism that is superior to these two mechanisms. In particular, we propose a new mechanism which we call the OPT mechanism. This mechanism maximizes the search engine's expected revenue subject to achieving Bayesian incentive compatibility and individual rationality. Bayesian incentive compatibility guarantees that it is optimal for each advertiser to bid his/her true value provided that all other agents also bid their respective true values. Individual rationality ensures that the agents participate voluntarily in the auction since they are assured of gaining a non-negative payoff by doing so.

Según Philip Kotler, considerado el padre del mercadeo, (en su libro Principles Of Marketing) la mercadotecnia es «el proceso social y administrativo por el cual los grupos e individuos satisfacen sus necesidades al crear e intercambiar bienes y servicios». La presente investigación tomará como punto de referencia para conceptualizar el marco teórico, la historia y evolución del mercadeo y sus actuales tendencias y rumbos; así como la incidencia que tiene en la planificación del área de mercadeo para las empresas que siguen este tipo de corrientes contemporáneas. Durante el desarrollo de la presente investigación se analizaran las nuevas tendencias de mercadeo basándose en la evolución y su referencia histórica. Ahora, se verá cómo el e-marketing compone una nueva estrategia para el desarrollo de ventaja competitiva entendiéndose ésta como un conjunto de atributos de una empresa que la distinguen de sus competidores. The fear related to dental procedures can be acquired through disturbing experiences and/or negative cultural influences related in experiences of previous generations. Such influences may be present in diverse forms of cultural expression: in the cinema, plastic arts, music, literature, and diverse vehicles of printed and visual media. This research aimed investigates the images of fear related to the dental service and dentist in motion pictures. The study has qualitative approach, which used the documentary analysis of movies. The data collection was accomplished through research in the Internet by means of the Google tool (http://www.google.com.br), using the describing words filme and dentista . A total of 44 films were found. Of these, after selective criterion for films with scenes showing interaction between dentist and patient in the execution of clinical procedure, only 24 films were enclosed. Then, these were registered in data base created for this research. After second selective criterion of inclusion (scenes with suggestion of dental anxiety), 15 films remained. As regards cinematographic gender, the films with scenes showing "dental anxiety" varied between comedy (8), horror (3), drama (2), thriller (1) and childish (1). Of these films, scenes with images of situations that suggest fear of the dentist and his job were selected and described. The images were categorized by the identification of negative characteristics that incite "dental anxiety". Then, the classification of the categories was proceeded detaching the most recurrent characteristics in the scenes: situation of fear in the waiting-room; pain; instrument coarse/rudimentary; coarseness of the dentist; torture; and low qualification technique. The waiting-room was observed as a place of great tension, due to the noises coming from the dental attendance. The pain related to the Dentistry was the predominant subject in the majority of films (14), associated to others negative characteristics. The rudimentary aspects of procedures and instruments, and the coarse attitudes of the professional could be observed too. The dentist was characterized as confused, sadist, violent, insensitive, incompetent person and disturbed. Such results suggest that, despite the technological advances of the profession, the image of the dentist and his job is still transmitted in a negative way aspect and reinforces the dental anxiety

Este proyecto consiste en el diseño e implementación un sistema domótico que puede ser instalado en una vivienda para controlar distintas variables ambientales y conseguir así la máxima comodidad de los habitantes de manera automática o manual según los gustos y necesidades de los usuarios. La característica principal de este sistema, es que cuenta con un funcionamiento distribuido donde entran en juego un servidor, encargado de tomar las decisiones generales para el comportamiento de la casa, y una serie de controladores esclavo cuya función es mantener constantes las variables ambientales con los valores fijados por el servidor. Así se consigue mantener la vivienda en una situación de bienestar constante para cualquier persona que se encuentre dentro. El sistema ha sido pensado de manera que se intenta reducir al máximo el cableado para facilitar su instalación por lo que la comunicación entre los distintos dispositivos se hace de manera inalámbrica por medio de un protocolo descrito en la norma IEEE 802.15.4 llamado ZigBee. Para ello se ha utilizado un módulo de comunicación wireless llamado Xbee, el cual permite la comunicación entre dos dispositivos. Para el control de dicho sistema distribuido se cuenta con una aplicación web, que mediante una interfaz gráfica permite al usuario controlar los distintos dispositivos dentro de la vivienda consiguiendo así controlar las variables ambientales a gusto del usuario. Dicha interfaz gráfica no depende de un software específico, sino que sólo es necesario un cliente http como podría ser Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, etc. Para integrar dicho sistema se ha usado un mini ordenador de bajo coste llamado RaspBerryPi, en el que se encuentra alojado un servidor Apache con el fin de gestionar y automatizar las variables ambientales. El control de los dipositivos encargados de modificar y estabilizar las variables ambientales se realiza mediante unos controladores genéricos implementados mediante mcontroladores 80C51F410, pertenecientes a la familia 80C51, y una serie de componentes y circuitería que permiten el correcto funcionamiento de éstos. Existen dos tipos de controladores distintos, los cuales son: Controlador Sensor: Encargados de las tomas de valores ambientales como puede ser la luz y la temperatura. Controladores Actuadores: Encargados de actuar sobre los dispositivos que modifican y estabilizan las variables ambientales como pueden ser la calefacción, tiras de leds de iluminación, persianas, alarmas, etc. El conjunto de la RaspBerryPi y los diferentes controladores forman el prototipo diseñado para este proyecto fin de carrera, el cual puede ser ampliado sencillamente para abarcar una amplia gama de posibilidades y funcionalidades dentro de la comodidad de una vivienda. ABSTRACT. The project described in this report consisted designing and implementing a home automation system that could be installed in a house in order to control environmental variables and thus get the maximum comfort of the inhabitant automatically or manually according to their tastes and needs. The main feature of this system consists in a distributed system, formed by a server which is responsible for making the main decisions of the actions performed inside the house. In addition, there are a series of slave controlers whose function consists in keeping the environmental variables within the values established by the server. Thus gets to keep the home in a situation of constant wellbeing to anyone who is inside. The system has been designed in order to reduce the amount of wire needed for the inter-connection of the devices, by means of wireless communication. The devices chosen for the solution are Xbee modules, which use the Zigbee protocol in order to comunicate one between each other. The Zigbee protocol is fully described in the IEEE 802.15.4 standard. A web application has been used to control the distributed system. This application allows users to control various devices inside the house and subsequently the different environmental variables. This implementation allows obtaining the maximum comfort by means of a very simple graphical interface. In addition, the Graphical User Interface (GUI) does not depend on any specific software. This means that it would only be necessary a http client (such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, etc.) for handling the application. The system has been integrated using a low-cost mini computer called RaspBerryPi.This computer has an Apache server allocated which allows to manage and to automatize the different environmental variables. Furthermore, for changing and stabilizing those variables, some generic controllers have been developed, based on mcontrollers 80C51F410. There have been developed mainly two different types of controllers: Sensor Controllers, responsible for measuring the different environmental values, such as light and temperature; and Actuator Controllers, which purpose is to modify and stabilize those environmental variables by actuating on the heating, the led lamps, the blinders, the alarm, etc. The combination of the RaspBerryPi and the different controllers conform the prototype designed during this project. Additionally, this solution could be easily expanded in order to intake further functionalities adapted to new needs that could arise in the future.
