Es descriuen les diferents menes de roques utilitzades en la construcci de la Porta Ferrada de Sant Feliu de Guxols. Les dades litolgiques obtingudes permeten localitzar de manera aproximada les pedreres d'on procedeixen els carreus que la conformen. A ms, la posici de les diferents varietats de roques dins el conjunt del monument permet arribar a distingir les parts que corresponen a l'edifici original d'aquelles que s'hi han afegit posteriorment

El propsito de estos cuadernos es que el alumno adquiera nuevos conocimientos sobre el mundo fsico, de manera que sea capaz de explicar cientficamente algunos de los fenmenos que se producen cotidianamente. Se propone en ellos la realizacin de actividades variadas que, en ocasiones, requerirn la consulta de libros, audiovisuales o incluso el trabajo en el laboratorio o fuera del aula. We present the fi rst review of Hymenoptera alien to Europe. Our study revealed that nearly 300 species of Hymenoptera belonging to 30 families have been introduced to Europe. In terms of alien species diversity within invertebrate orders, this result ranks Hymenoptera third following Coleoptera and Hemiptera. Two third of alien Hymenoptera are parasitoids or hyperparasitoids that were mostly introduced for biological control purposes. Only 35 phytophagous species, 47 predator species and 3 species of pollinators have been introduced. Six families of wasps (Aphelinidae, Encyrtidae, Eulophidae, Braconidae, Torymidae, Pteromalidae) represent together with ants (Formicidae) about 80% of the alien Hymenoptera introduced to Europe. Th e three most diverse families are Aphelinidae (60 species representing 32% of the Aphelinid European fauna), Encyrtidae (55) and Formicidae (42) while the Chalcidoidea together represents 2/3 of the total Hymenoptera species introduced to Europe. Th e fi rst two families are associated with mealybugs, a group that also included numerous aliens to Europe. In addition, they are numerous cases of Hymenoptera introduced from one part of Europe to another, especially from continental Europe to British Islands. Th ese introductions mostly concerned phytophagous or gall- maker species (76 %), less frequently parasitoids. Th e number of new records of alien Hymenoptera per year has shown an exponential increase during the last 200 years. Th e number of alien species introduced by year reached a maximum of 5 species per year between 1975 and 2000. North America provided the greatest part of the hymenopteran species alien to Europe (96 species, 35.3%), followed by Asia (84 species, 30.9%) and Africa (49 species, 18%). Th ree Mediterranean countries (only continental parts) hosted the largest number of alien Hymenoptera: Italy (144 spp.), France (111 spp.) and Spain (90 spp.) but no correlation was found with the area of countries. Intentional introduction, mostly for biological control, has been the main pathway of introduction for Hymenoptera. Consequently, the most invaded habitats are agricultural and horticultural as well as greenhouses. To the contrary, Hymenoptera alien in Europe are mostly associated with woodland and forest habitats. Ecological and economic impacts of alien Hymenoptera have been poorly studied. Ants have probably displaced native species and this is also true for introduced parasitoids that are suspected to displace native parasitoids by competition, but reliable examples are still scarce. Th e cost of these impacts has never been estimated.

More than 65% (1040 species) of arthropod species alien to Europe are associated with human-made habitats, especially parks and gardens, human settlements and agricultural lands, whereas woodlands are yet colonized by less than 20% of the alien fauna, which still has a negligible representation in the other natural and semi-natural habitats. Large diff erences in habitat affi nity are observed between alien taxonomic groups. Phytophagous species are predominant among aliens, representing 47.2% of species alien to Europe.

El Grup Consolidat dInnovaci Docent de Mineralogia i ptica cristallina de la Universitat de Barcelona ha desenvolupat un CD interactiu que simula el funcionament dun microscopi petrogrfic, per tal de facilitar a lalumne un material dautoaprenentatge, ha de servir per a reforar els coneixements dels minerals formadors de roques en lmina prima. Aquest material te tres entrades diferents, en catal, castell i angls. Cada mineral t una fitxa general amb les seves propietats ptiques i una complementaria amb les caracterstiques cristallogrfiques, camp destabilitat, diagrames de fases i caracterstiques morfolgiques del mineral a observar, les quals marquen els trets determinatius daquell mineral per tal de facilitar el seu reconeixement. Per tal de complementar les dades shan introdut links directes amb la planes web: webmineral i mindat on hi ha les corresponents estructures i morfologies interactives de cadascun dels minerals que apareixen en el programa. En laplicaci informtica hi ha 169 filmacions corresponents a 43 dels principals minerals que formen les roques, una filmaci correspon a la imatge noms amb el polaritzador, i l'altre a la imatge amb el polaritzador ms l'analitzador. Cadascuna d'aquestes imatges es presenta amb un gir de 360; es pot aturar i desprs continuar girant, simulant el que veurem al microscopi. D'aquesta manera es pot determinar el pleocroisme, la presncia de macles, el color d'interferncia i l'angle d'extinci.. Sha intentat sempre que hi hagus diferents exemples dun mateix mineral en diverses paragnesis. Tamb s'incorpora una fitxa que l'usuari pot omplir amb les caracterstiques texturals i ptiques del mineral agrupades segons les observacions que es fan, b amb el polaritzador, amb el polaritzador i l'analitzador o b amb les condicions especfiques per veure la figura d'interferncia i el signe ptic. Aquesta fitxa, un cop plena, es pot imprimir. En tot moment hi ha un men dajuda on lusuari pot remetre i fer la consulta adient per poder continuar.

Efficient priming of adaptive immunity depends on danger signals provided by innate immune pathways. As an example, inflammasome-mediated activation of caspase-1 and IL-1beta is crucial for the development of reactive T cells targeting sensitizers like dinitrofluorobenzene (DNFB). Surprisingly, DNFB and dinitrothiocyanobenzene provide cross-reactive Ags yet drive opposing, sensitizing vs tolerizing, T cell responses. In this study, we show that, in mice, inflammasome-signaling levels can be modulated to turn dinitrothiocyanobenzene into a sensitizer and DNFB into a tolerizer, and that it correlates with the IL-6 and IL-12 secretion levels, affecting Th1, Th17, and regulatory T cell development. Hence, our data provide the first evidence that the inflammasome can define the type of adaptive immune response elicited by an Ag, and hint at new strategies to modulate T cell responses in vivo.

The Editorial presents the focus, scope, policies, and the inaugural issue of NeoBiota, a new open access peer-reviewed journal of biological invasions. The new journal NeoBiota is a continuation of the former NEOBIOTA publication series. The journal will deal with all aspects of invasion biology and impose no restrictions on manuscript size neither on use of color. NeoBiota implies an XML-based editorial workflow and several cutting-edge innovations in publishing and dissemination, such as semantic markup of and enhancements to published texts, data publication, and extensive cross-linking within the journal and to external sources

Previous pharmacological studies have indicated the possible existence of functional interactions between -, - and -opioid receptors in the CNS. We have investigated this issue using a genetic approach. Here we describe in vitro and in vivo functional activity of - and -opioid receptors in mice lacking the -opioid receptor (MOR). Measurements of agonist-induced [35S]GTPS binding and adenylyl cyclase inhibition showed that functional coupling of - and -receptors to G-proteins is preserved in the brain of mutant mice. In the mouse vas deferens bioassay, deltorphin II and cyclic[d-penicillamine2,d-penicillamine5] enkephalin exhibited similar potency to inhibit smooth muscle contraction in both wild-type and MOR / mice. -Analgesia induced by deltorphin II was slightly diminished in mutant mice, when the tail flick test was used. Deltorphin II strongly reduced the respiratory frequency in wild-type mice but not in MOR / mice. Analgesic and respiratory responses produced by the selective -agonist U-50,488H were unchanged in MOR-deficient mice. In conclusion, the preservation of - and -receptor signaling properties in mice lacking -receptors provides no evidence for opioid receptor cross-talk at the cellular level. Intact antinociceptive and respiratory responses to the -agonist further suggest that the -receptor mainly acts independently from the -receptor in vivo. Reduced -analgesia and the absence of -respiratory depression in MOR-deficient mice together indicate that functional interactions may take place between -receptors and central -receptors in specific neuronal pathways.
