Acoustic Riddles of Cultural Heritage

It is shown, that in the process of evolution, a relationship between some hidden parameters of acoustic signals and expected emotional response to them has been formed. This relationship is a necessary condition for a living creature to survive. The efficiency of the concept represented is illustrated using examples from the field of classical music, ethnic African music, as well as biolinguistic signals of animals. Reasons of a particular impact of bell rings are analyzed using acoustic signals of some Bulgarian and Russian bell rings and chimes.

Is Dawkins a modern-day Nicodemus?

This article applies a Wittgensteinian approach to the examination of the intelligibility of religious belief, in the wake of the recent attack on the Judeo-Christian religion by Richard Dawkins's book The God Delusion. The article attempts to show that Dawkins has confused religion with superstition, and that while Dawkins's arguments are decisive in the case of superstition, they do not successfully show religion to be a delusion. Religious belief in God is not like belief in the existence of a planet, and genuine religious faith is not like the belief in something for which there is not yet enough evidence, like belief in dark matter. The Christian doctrines of the resurrection and eternal life are misconstrued if they are understood as factual claims because they are then merely shallow superstitions, and not the great religious riddles they are meant to be.

Wilkins Hill : on the cusp of meaning

If contemporary artworks are often considered to be puzzles or riddles, then Wilkins Hill take this to a new level. Their recent exhibition Windows impersonating other windows, confronts viewers with an extremely ludic configuration: a spa bath full of almonds, towel racks placed before photos of Martin Heidegger distorted in neat grids, a video of a water tower in a Hamburg park, wooden cut-out speech bubbles and monitors that continuously play interviews with the artists themselves. What does it all mean?

80faces: objeto-Para-outro

O presente trabalho foi desenvolvido a partir do enlace poético teórico feito a partir da análise e produção da obra 80faces, desenvolvida por aquele que se apresenta aqui tanto como autor da obra como pesquisador da mesma. Tal característica proporcionou uma dupla perspectiva que são apresentadas em partes distintas do trabalho, sendo a primeira um aparato teórico referencial e a segunda as anotações e idéias apropriadas por livre demanda do próprio artista pesquisador. As 80faces corresponde a um estudo das fotografias que o artista retirou de seu próprio rosto em expressões diversas e que foram estampadas em diferentes objetos colocados em circulação. Atráves de percepções filosóficas de mecanismos do contexto da visualidade e da rostidade, foi traçado um caminho que justificou a produção e tentou alcançar a perspectiva do artista frente a produção de sua obra e futura análise distanciada da mesma. Rostidade, metrópole comunicacional e imagem são alguns dos elementos que nortearam esta pesquisa, além da apresentação de uma criação poética independente de crivos teóricos referenciais pré estabelecidos
