Estudo genealógico das viagens, dos viajantes e dos turistas

Este artigo faz um estudo genealógico da viagem e do turismo, conceitos importantes para a compreensão da sociedade ocidental, por meio da análise de certos escritos, alguns dos quais representam um marco não só na literatura, mas também na história e na antropologia. Estuda-se a construção das idéias de viagem, turismo, viajante e turista, com base na literatura e nos relatos, dos “agentes” que contribuíram tanto para a formação como para a cristalização dessas noções. Constata-se que as idéias encontradas na literatura e nos relatos acabam sendo reproduzidas nos produtos culturais da pós-modernidade, transformando ações, personagens e personalidades em construções estereotipadas.

Prática turística e retórica do espaço nas viagens na Galiza de Silveira da Mota (1889)

O turismo nasce a partir de viagens organizadas com objetivos relacionados com o lazer, a partir do século XIX, e tendo a viagem como conceito fundador e ao mesmo tempo contrastante. O conceito de viajante foi construído de várias formas e sob vários aspetos e a literatura teve um papel imprescindível nessa construção, nomeadamente a estesia romântica. O Romantismo traz consigo a voga da viagem a Espanha. Este artigo propõe uma abordagem geocrítica do relato de viagens de Inácio Francisco Teixeira da Mota, Viagens na Galiza, publicado em 1889, pela tipografia lisboeta de A.M. Pereira. Pretende-se sobretudo destacar, além do itinerário turístico, a construção de uma retórica sobre o espaço que se plasmará nas imagens e nas narrativas que ainda hoje perduram na nossa memória e que consubstancia no conceito de lugar turístico, i.e. “lugares em que há turistas, onde fomos precedidos e onde seremos seguidos por muitos outros” (Knafou, 2001: 64).

Sena Freitas e as viagens ao serviço da cultura e da religião

As viagens ocupam uma dimensão muito relevante na obra de Sena Freitas por terem sido objeto de descrições, em que, sob a forma de relatos ou de cartas, o autor deu a conhecer ao público leitor muitas das suas impressões da paisagem, do património e do estilo de vida dos países e cidades que visitou. Propomos centrar a atenção no relato das viagens em que o autor projeta muitas das suas ideias sobre os mais variados assuntos, desde a experiência missionária, no Brasil, até às suas conceções sobre a importância da ciência na formação dos jovens e do clero, as condições sociais e políticas dos operários, a importância social da religião e da tolerância religiosa, a par da exaltação da natureza, em que a sua ilha de S. Miguel não tem paralelo. Começaremos, no entanto, a nossa exposição, apresentando, em traços gerais, alguns aspetos da sua vida, que repartiu em grande parte entre Portugal e o Brasil, o que servirá para enquadrar o nosso propósito.

Edema pulmonar neurogênico: relato de dois casos

Neurogenic pulmonary edema is a rare and serious complication in patients with head injury. It also may develop after a variety of cerebral insults such as subarachnoid hemorrhage, brain tumors and after epileptic seizures. Thirty six patients with severe head injury and four patients with cerebrovascular insults treated in Intensive Care Unit of HC-UNICAMP from January to September 1995 were evaluated. In this period there were two patients with neurogenic pulmonary edema, one with head injury and other with intracerebral hemorrhage. Diagnosis was made by rapid onset of pulmonary edema, severe hypoxemia, decrease of pulmonary complacence and diffuse pulmonary infiltrations, without previous history of tracheal aspiration or any other risk factor for developement of adult respiratory distress syndrom. In the first case, with severe head trauma, neurogenic pulmonary edema was diagnosed at admission one hour after trauma, associated with severe systemic inflammatory reaction, and good outcome in three days. The second case, with hemorragic vascular insult, developed neurogenic pulmonary edema the fourth day after drenage of intracerebral hematom and died.

Fibrose congênita de reto inferior atípica com hipotonia muscular generalizada: relato de um caso

A case report of an atipical inferior rectus congenital fibrosis associated with a generalized muscular hypotonia is presented. It shows mild hipotropia with a normal visual acuity and binocularity in infraversion position contrasting with the severe hipotropia and ambliopy found. The surgical procedure took these facts into consideration, so we performed a small retrocess of the muscle with the objective to correct the head position without changes in the reading position. The postoperative results were satisfactory.

Esclerite infecciosa espontânea por Nocardia asteroides: relato de caso

PURPOSE: To report a case of Nocardia asteroides scleritis in a patient without risk factors for infeccious scleritis. METHODS: A 38-year old woman was initially examined for pain, discharge, photophobia of 1 month duration in her right eye. Her medical and ophthalmological history were unremarkable. The results of laboratory tests were normal. Surgical debridement of necrotic tissue was performed and material was sent for biopsy and culture confirmed as Nocardia asteroides. Treatment consisted of amikacin eyedrops, and systemic trimethropim-sulfamethoxazole. The infection resolved leaving scleral thinning and a subconjunctival fibrovascular scar. Best corrected visual acuity two months after referral had improved to LE, 20/20. CONCLUSION: Prompt evaluation and treatment is essential for successful management of Nocardia asteroides infectious scleritis.

Necrose cerebelar extensa na anemia falciforme: relato de um caso

A 6 month-old mulatto boy was admitted on account of acute gastroenteritis, malnutrition and dehydration. In the hospital, the child developed septicemia, and temperature reached up to 38.6°C. Despite intensive antibiotic treatment, the patient died 12 days after admission. Necropsy disclosed bilateral bronchopneumonia, bilateral fronto-parietal subarachnoid hemorrhage, and extensive necrosis of the inferior half of both cerebellar hemispheres. On histopathological examination of the necrotic cerebellar cortex, numerous sickled erythrocytes were observed in petechial hemorrhages and, in lesser quantities, inside capillaries. Lesions of the central nervous system in sickle cell anemia most often involve the cerebral cortex, and a single extensive cerebellar infarction as present in this case seems extremely rare. The pathogenetic mechanism of the necrosis is unclear, since thrombosis was not observed either in large blood vessels or in capillaries. Possible contributory factors were the infectious condition (septicemia), fever, and anoxia caused by the extensive bronchopneumonia.

Neurobrucelose: relato de três casos

Three cases of probable neurobrucellosis are reported. The diagnosis was made on the basis of imunological tests. Two patients with a clinical picture of meningomyelitis showed a definitive clinical improvement under tetraciclin and streptomòcin therapy. The imunological reactions found in the record case were even more positive in the spinal fluid than in the blood. In the case 3 with a clinical presentation of cerebral hemorrage the hitopathological studies demonstrated non specific chronic leptomeningitis and local hemorrages in the caudate nucleus bilaterally. The diagnose and treatment of neurobrucellosis are discussed, stressing the importance of an early therapy.

Herpes Zoster oftálmico e posterior acidente vascular cerebral: relato de caso

A sixty-nine year old man suffered a stroke fourteen weeks after the onset of right herpes zoster ophthalmicus (HZO). Hemispheric infarction was documented by a computed tomography which showed a small hypodense zone in the right internal capsula; after contrast there was enhancement of this hypodense area. Cerebral angiography and cerebral-spinal fluid were not done. Despite of a diagnosis of probability the authors report the case and review the literature. A long latency between the HZO and onset of neurological deficit is stressed. New antiviral agents may prevent the ictus.

Polirradiculoneurite e malária: relato de um caso

Case report of a patient who three weeks after a Plasmodium falciparum malaria presented the Guillain-Barré syndrome. There was a severe type of polyradiculoneuritis with tetraplegia and involvement of several cranial nerves (VI, VII, IX, X) evolving to death. The Guillain-Barré syndrome has been considered a immune disorder with several eliciting antigenic stimuli. The case suggests that protozoan may be one these antigenic factors.

Neurinoma maligno infratentorial: relato de um caso

A solitary malignant schwannoma of the foramen jugular, unassociated with von Recklinghausen's disease in a two years and nine months old girl is presented. A partial removal of the tumor was carried out. The low incidence in this age group is emphasized in report to the literature reviewed.

Hidrocefalia multiloculada: relato de dois casos

Multiloculated hydrocephalus is a clinicopathological entity consisting of enlarged, loculated ventricles and paraventricular poroencephalic cavities. We present two cases of multiloculated hydrocephalus: one due to infectious process of central nervous system and the other consequent to a congenital malformation. Tomographic aspects of this condition that permit the diagnosis are stressed. The pathophysiology, the management and the prognosis are discussed according to the available literature.

Cisticercose medular relato de dois casos, revisão da literatura e comentários sobre a patogenia

A case of spinal intramedular cysticercosis in a 13-year-old Brazilian female and a case of spinal leptomeningeal infestation by cysticercosis in a 51 year-old Brazilian female are presented. A review of 95 published cases of medullar cysticercosis since 1856 shows the incidence of this condition. Extramedullar forms are explained by the downward migration of larvae from the cerebral to the spinal subarachnoid space and most larvae are expected to be stopped in the upper portions of the spinal canal due to peculiarities of the anatomy of the spinal cord.
