Relations between China and Latin America: Inter-regionalism beyond the Triad

Inter-regionalism refers to regular forms of cooperation between regions or actors from different regions and is a result of the parallel phenomena of globalization and regionalism. Inter-regional links are rapidly developing all around the world and form a new level of global governance. Though originally inter-regionalism typically connected the actors of the so-called Triad, today emerging economies and developing regions are more active and visible participants of inter-regional cooperation. The article examines the perspectives and limitations of inter-regional relations between China and Latin America as a new dimension of deepening Sino–Latin American relations.

El análisis de las relaciones regionales de Sierra Leona en materia de seguridad bajo el marco de Mano River Union después de la guerra civil, 2002-2007

En 1973 se establece una asociación internacional entre Liberia y Sierra Leona llamada Mano River Union (MRU) con el objetivo de establecer una integración económica subregional, a la cual Guinea se integró en 1980. Tras el final de los conflictos civiles en la región, en el 2004 se lleva a cabo la Inauguración del Foro de Paz de Mano River Union, en el cual se establecieron nuevos parámetros para el funcionamiento del grupo subregional el cual está basado en identificar las amenazas comunes y actuar en conjunto frente a ellas. Dentro de las amenazas que tienen el potencial de debilitar la seguridad de la región y así mismo, debilitar las estructuras estatales, se establecen a los problemas de gobernanza, las amenazas fronterizas y los temas de refugiados como los más importantes a tratar.

This article presents the endeavors of health municipal teams in building services that meet citizens’ demands, in a small municipality from a less developed area of the state of São Paulo. Beyond health services practice characterization and organization, our study assesses the challenges and advances in the implementation of public, health policies in Brazil. In this way it is possible to perceive how the family health strategy needs to overcome impasses in the service work processes, as well as more dynamic local and regional relations to provide comprehensive care to citizens. Health care exemplifies how, in democracy building, municipal action is indispensable to strengthen the effectiveness of public actions.

Doing business in... Indonesia

Indonesia's long stability of over three decades came to a sudden end after the regional economic crisis of 1997–1998. The economic crisis not only shattered the Indonesian economy but also resulted in political turmoil. The national leadership has changed three times over the last five years. In such conditions, the confidence of foreign investors is very low. The present government has initiated a number of steps to restore political stability and economic recovery. This article provides useful information on the complex business environment, aimed to help foreign investors to develop a good understanding on key background knowledge for being successful in Indonesia. It reviews Indonesian historical development, political structure and climate, regional relations, and economy and foreign trade. Indonesia's infrastructure, legal framework, sociocultural setup, as well as market structure and potential, are also analyzed.

Potencialidades de desarrollo y movilización local: un estudio SIAL en Santa Cruz de Turrialba

El queso fresco blanco, conocido como queso Turrialba en Costa Rica, es un producto de mucho valor económico  y social, que ha despertado un interés particular en el análisis de sus estructuras de producción y las redes interrelaciónales entre los diferentes actores involucrados en su elaboración y comercio local y regional.  Se comprobó la existencia de un SIAL en Santa Cruz de Turrialba que cuenta con organizaciones con objetivos y metas comunes que han dado origen a acciones colectivas operativas. Este SIAL ha generado también acciones operativas individuales que han diversificado, entre otras, la comercialización de su producto. En el plano colectivo, la planificación y priorización de sus proyecciones futuras están afectando no solamente el área de la producción agroindustrial sino también otros campos como el turismo agroecológico.   ABSTRACT The fresh White cheese in Costa Rica is well known as “Turrialba cheese”. This cheese has high economic and social value and its production structure and its local and regional relations networks became a very interesting fact of analysis. It has been proved the occurrence of a local Agrofood System (SIAL) in Santa Cruz of Turrialba, where organizations with specific common purposes and goals were present. This situation originated individual operative action  as in order to diversity their products and markets. On the collective side, the planification and priorization of their future projects and ideas, have influenced not only the production, but also another fields like the development of agro ecological tourism in the region.
