Gingival recession is a common deformity that affects a large number of people. This condition is frequently associated with esthetic complains and may lead to dental hypersensitivity. Thus, various surgical procedures have been proposed to provide root coverage. Since the 1950s, free and pedicle gingival grafts have been greatly used for treating gingival recession. However, after the 1985 Miller gingival recession classification, and with the development of other appropriated techniques that use subepithelial connective tissue grafts, gingival recession treatments have resulted in more predictable outcomes, especially with respect to Class I and II sites, i.e., in the absence of interproximal bone loss. This article reported the importance of aesthetical periodontal treatment in the prosthetic rehabilitation of a patient with a class I gingival recession with 3 mm of vertical extension in the superior canine. The treatment plan consisted of root coverage using subepithelial connective tissue graft (SCTG) associated with construction of new prosthesis.

The osseointegrated implants created a progress in oral rehabilitation. But this rehabilitation may be complicated by anatomical conditions, mainly in maxillary anterior region, where a higher aesthetic is required. The aim of study was to report one case which the use of angled abutments were necessary to allow the correct positioning of the prosthesis and also the prosthetic reconstruction with gingival-colored ceramic to provide best aesthetic result for patient. The aesthetic and functional results provided greater patient satisfaction with her smile. The correct planning is essential to provide to patient the best aesthetic and functional results, being necessary the use of abutments and gingival-colored ceramic to reach better results. Uniterms: dental implantacion, esthetics, mouth rehabilitation.

Removable partial denture improve functional and aesthetic failures caused by partial loss of teeth, however specific characteristics of each patients can determine the success of treatment, especially with regard to the support of the prosthesis, which may depend on teeth, the combination of teehe and mucosa and currently associated with the dental implants. The aim of this study is report a case in which there was the need of the association, to enable better aesthetics and self-esteem to the patients. After implant placement and fabrication of prosthetic patient reported satisfaction with the rehabilitation treatment, improving their quality of life.

This case report shows how the prognosis of severe mandibular atrophy can be improved with the use of short dental implants. A Caucasian 54 years-old male patient received four dental implants in the anterior mandibular region. Four months later, the definitive prosthesis was delivered. At the 8-year follow-up period, no complaints or loss of integration were reported. Short dental implants with complete, fixed definitive prosthesis can be a successful treatment in the mandibular arch.

Objective and Case report: The purpose of this paper is to describe the neutral zone technique in a patient with oral deformity on the right labial commissure due to the resection of an oral cancer, enhancing the difficulty resulting from mouth limited opening and the use of tissue conditioner material to determine the neutral zone. Complete denture was obtained through this technique, providing good retention and stability which made functional rehabilitation feasible to patient of his or her masticatory function. Final considerations: The neutral zone technique in complete dentures will determine a specific intraoral area for tooth position and denture base contour where the forces generated by lips, cheeks and tongue are neutralized. The objective of this technique is to provide an alternative approach for patients who presented an historic instability of lower complete denture: atrophic ridge, oral deformities and also with disorder problems. An oral rehabilitation using this technique improves comfort to the patient providing retention and stability of mandibular complete dentures.

Eye loss results on facial asymmetry compromising its aesthetics. Ocular prostheses are important to re-establish aesthetics; protect the anophthalmic cavity; recover function such as the redirection of lachrymatory liquid; and reintegrate the patient to society. The aim of this study was to describe a case report, demonstrating clinical and laboratorial procedures for confection of ocular prostheses and highlighting their advantages. A female patient was afflicted by toxoplasmosis, which led to the loss of her eye. An eye visceration was performed. The patient reported no previous use of ocular prosthesis. A PMMA ocular prosthesis was manufactured restoring patient’s aesthetic and facial contour. The patient was satisfied with the treatment. Therefore the present study has shown that PMMA ocular prosthesis is able to restore facial aesthetics and can be a safe and satisfactory alternative for patients that have lost their eyes due to toxoplasmosis.

An appropriate design of a prosthetic rehabilitation should not impute the restoration of occlusal vertical dimension (OVD) to new prostheses, at the risk of the patient does not adapt to a new condition, since a certain amount of time is often necessary for adaptation to a new OVD. This article performed prosthetic rehabilitation with an overlay provisional removable partial denture prior to definitive treatment because the patient showed a considerable decrease in the OVD. Three techniques for OVD determination were used. It is possible to conclude that the use of interim removable partial dentures is of great importance at the beginning of the rehabilitation treatment in order to adapt the patient to a new occlusal condition.

Rehabilitation of severely resorbed edentulous mandible using the modified visor osteotomy technique
Resumo:
The prosthetic rehabilitation of an atrophic mandible is usually unsatisfactory due to the lack of support tissues, mainly bone and keratinized mucosa for treatment with osseointegrated implants or even conventional prosthesis. The prosthetic instability leads to social and functional limitations and chronic physical trauma decreasing the patient's quality of life. A 53-year-old female patient sought care at our surgical service complaining of impairment of her masticatory function associated with the instability of the lower total prosthetic denture. The clinical and complementary exams revealed edentulism in both arches, while the mandibular arch presented severe reabsorption resulting in denture instability and chronic trauma to the oral mucosa. The proposed treatment plan consisted in the mandibular rehabilitation with osseointegrated implants and fixed Brånemark's protocol prosthesis after mandibular reconstruction applying the modified visor osteotomy technique. The proposed technique offered predictable results for reconstruction of the severely resorbed edentulous mandible and posterior rehabilitation with osseointegrated implants.

This study aimed to evaluate patients who underwent placement of zygomatic implants technique by Stella & Warner, considering the survival of conventional and zygomatic implants, sinus health and level of patient satisfaction in relation to oral rehabilitation. We evaluated 28 patients where 14 had received conventional and zygomatic implants, being rehabilitated with implant-fixed dentures (group 1) and 14 were rehabilitated only with conventional implants and implant-fixed dentures (group 2). The study had four phases, represented by radiographic evaluation of implants (stage I), clinical evaluation (stage II), assessing the health of the maxillary sinus (stage III) and a questionnaire to measure satisfaction of rehabilitation with fixed prosthesis implant Total -backed (stage IV). Group 2 underwent only stage IV, while group 1 participated in all stages. Descriptive analysis and statistics were performed, using the t test for independent samples in the evaluation of phase IV. The results demonstrated that the technique of Stella & Warner proved effective, allowing a high survival rate of conventional implants and zygomatic (100%), considering a minimum follow-up of 15 months and maximum 53 months after prosthetic rehabilitation. There were no pathological changes in tissues periimplants conventional and zygomatic implants analyzed. Radiographic findings showed satisfactory levels bone implants in the oral rehabilitation with conventional zygomatic implants and a good positioning of the apex of the zygomatic implants over the zygomatic bone. The presence of the zygomatic implant did not cause sinus and the t test showed a satisfaction index lower in group 1 compared with group 2. The zygomatic implant placement technique by Stella & Warner proved to be a predictable technique with high survival rate in patients with atrophic jaws, necessitating long-term follow-up to confirm the initial findings of the study
