Työ liittyy uuden sukupolven monitelakalanterin tuotekehitysprojektiin. Työssä tutkittiin uuden monitelakalanterin tuoterakennetta, esisuunnitteluaineistoa ja mahdol- lisuuksia parametriseen 3D-suunnitteluun. Työssä ei suoritettu teknistä laskentaa. Uuden monitelakalanterin modulaarinen tuoterakenne ja esisuunnitteluaineisto pohjautuu markkinoilla olevaan OptiLoad-monitelakalanteriin. Tuoterakenteella ja esisuunnitteluaineistolla ohjataan monitelakalantereiden asiakastoimitusprojekteissa eri kokoluokkien kustannuksia, suunnittelua ja tuotantoa. Modulaarisella tuoterakenteella, jolla on selkeät mitoitusperusteet vaikutetaan oleellisesti asiakastoimitusten luotettavuuteen. Huomioimalla tuotekehitysprojektissa asiakaskohtaiset muutokset modulaarisessa tuoterakenteessa voidaan tehdä alustava esisuunnitteluaineisto. Parametrinen 3D-suunnittelu sekä lopullinen esisuunnitteluaineisto vaatii uuden monitelakalanterin rakenteiden tuotteistusta, standardointia ja elementtimenetelmään perustuvaa lujuuslaskentaa.

Tuotealustapohjaisella suunnittelulla pyritään hyödyntämään jo kertaalleen hyväksi todettuja kokonaisuuksia ja moduuleja, joiden avulla voidaan nopeasti suunnitella uusia tuotteita. Tarkoituksena on suunnitella asiakkaan näkökulmasta monia erilaisia tuotteita jopa sarjatuotannon kustannustehokkuudella. Tutkimuksessa esitetään risteilijän tuotealustapohjainen suunnitteluprosessi. Lisäksi työn tavoitteena on tutkia uuden suunnitteluprosessin vaikutukset risteilijän suunnitteluaikatauluihin. Näistä saatuja tutkimustuloksia verrattiin hyttialueen vakioidun perussuunnitteluohjeen vaikutuksiin suunnitteluprosessissa. Onnistunut tuotealustapohjainen suunnittelu vaatii sitoutumista jokaisella organisaation tasolla, jotta tuotealustassa olevien vakioituja moduuleja myös käytettäisiin. Modulaarisesta toiminnasta siirtyminen tuotealustapohjaiseen suunnitteluun vaatii vakioituja moduuleja ja vakioituja rajapintoja risteilijässä. Case-tutkimuksessa ja johtopäätöksissä on todettu uuden suunnitteluprosessin lyhentävän ja tuovan kustannussäästöjä tuotteen valmistusprosessissa.

Diplomityö käsittelee hisseissä erikoistapauksessa käytettävän kulmakorin suunnittelua ja tuotteistamista. Työ suoritetaan KONE Oyj:lle. Diplomityössä luotiin kulmakorille modulaarinen tuotearkkitehtuuri ja määritettiin korin toimitusprosessi. Työn tavoitteena oli saavuttaa 48,12% asiakkaiden mahdollisista vaatimuksista ja vähentää suunnitteluun kuluvaa aikaa aikaisemmasta 24 tunnista neljään tuntiin. Työn tavoite saavutettiin kokeneen tapauskohtaisten kulmakorien suunnittelijan kommenttien perusteella.

Modular product architectures have generated numerous benefits for companies in terms of cost, lead-time and quality. The defined interfaces and the module’s properties decrease the effort to develop new product variants, and provide an opportunity to perform parallel tasks in design, manufacturing and assembly. The background of this thesis is that companies perform verifications (tests, inspections and controls) of products late, when most of the parts have been assembled. This extends the lead-time to delivery and ruins benefits from a modular product architecture; specifically when the verifications are extensive and the frequency of detected defects is high. Due to the number of product variants obtained from the modular product architecture, verifications must handle a wide range of equipment, instructions and goal values to ensure that high quality products can be delivered. As a result, the total benefits from a modular product architecture are difficult to achieve. This thesis describes a method for planning and performing verifications within a modular product architecture. The method supports companies by utilizing the defined modules for verifications already at module level, so called MPV (Module Property Verification). With MPV, defects are detected at an earlier point, compared to verification of a complete product, and the number of verifications is decreased. The MPV method is built up of three phases. In Phase A, candidate modules are evaluated on the basis of costs and lead-time of the verifications and the repair of defects. An MPV-index is obtained which quantifies the module and indicates if the module should be verified at product level or by MPV. In Phase B, the interface interaction between the modules is evaluated, as well as the distribution of properties among the modules. The purpose is to evaluate the extent to which supplementary verifications at product level is needed. Phase C supports a selection of the final verification strategy. The cost and lead-time for the supplementary verifications are considered together with the results from Phase A and B. The MPV method is based on a set of qualitative and quantitative measures and tools which provide an overview and support the achievement of cost and time efficient company specific verifications. A practical application in industry shows how the MPV method can be used, and the subsequent benefits

Software Product Line Engineering has significant advantages in family-based software development. The common and variable structure for all products of a family is defined through a Product-Line Architecture (PLA) that consists of a common set of reusable components and connectors which can be configured to build the different products. The design of PLA requires solutions for capturing such configuration (variability). The Flexible-PLA Model is a solution that supports the specification of external variability of the PLA configuration, as well as internal variability of components. However, a complete support for product-line development requires translating architecture specifications into code. This complex task needs automation to avoid human error. Since Model-Driven Development allows automatic code generation from models, this paper presents a solution to automatically generate AspectJ code from Flexible-PLA models previously configured to derive specific products. This solution is supported by a modeling framework and validated in a software factory.

Nowadays, Software Product Line (SPL) engineering [1] has been widely-adopted in software development due to the significant improvements that has provided, such as reducing cost and time-to-market and providing flexibility to respond to planned changes [2]. SPL takes advantage of common features among the products of a family through the systematic reuse of the core-assets and the effective management of variabilities across the products. SPL features are realized at the architectural level in product-line architecture (PLA) models. Therefore, suitable modeling and specification techniques are required to model variability. In fact, architectural variability modeling has become a challenge for SPLE due to the fact that PLA modeling requires not only modeling variability at the level of the external architecture configuration (see [3,4] literature reviews), but also at the level of internal specification of components [5]. In addition, PLA modeling requires preserving the traceability between features and PLAs. Finally, it is important to take into account that PLA modeling should guide architects in modeling the PLA core assets and variability, and in deriving the customized products. To deal with these needs, we present in this demonstration the FPLA Modeling Framework.

The project of Information Architecture is one of the initial stages of the project of a website, thus the detection and correction of errors in this stage are easier and time-saving than in the following stages. However, to minimize errors for the projects of information architecture, a methodology is necessary to organize the work of the professional and guarantee the final product quality. The profile of the professional who works with Information Architecture in Brazil has been analyzed (quantitative research by means of a questionnaire on-line) as well as the difficulties, techniques and methodologies found in his projects (qualitative research by means of interviews in depth with support of the approaches of the Sense-Making). One concludes that the methodologies of projects of information architecture need to develop the adoption of the approaches of Design Centered in the User and in the ways to evaluate its results.

The purpose is to present a scientific research that led to the modeling of an information system which aimed at the maintenance of traceability data in the Brazilian wine industry, according to the principles of a service-oriented architecture (SOA). Since 2005, traceability data maintenance is an obligation for all producers that intend to export to any European Union country. Also, final customers, including the Brazilian ones, have been asking for information about food products. A solution that collectively contemplated the industry was sought in order to permit that producer consortiums of associations could share the costs and benefits of such a solution. Following an extensive bibliographic review, a series of interviews conducted with Brazilian researchers and wine producers in Bento Goncalves - RS, Brazil, elucidated many aspects associated with the wine production process. Information technology issues related to the theme were also researched. The software was modeled with the Unified Modeling Language (UML) and uses web services for data exchange. A model for the wine production process was also proposed. A functional prototype showed that the adopted model is able to fulfill the demands of wine producers. The good results obtained lead us to consider the use of this model in other domains.

Prototype validation is a major concern in modern electronic product design and development. Simulation, structural test, functional and timing debug are all forming parts of the validation process, although very often addressed as dissociated tasks. In this paper we describe an integrated approach to board-level prototype validation, based on a set of mandatory/optional BST instructions and a built-in controller for debug and test, that addresses the late mentioned tasks as inherent parts of a whole process
