La couverture médiatique de Pauline Marois dans Le Devoir et La Presse durant les élections provinciales de 2008

Depuis quelques années, les femmes deviennent de plus en plus présentes dans les hautes sphères du pouvoir politique. Cela a encouragé de nombreux scientifiques à s’intéresser à la question des femmes en politique, notamment en ce qui concerne leur traitement médiatique. Nous avons choisi d’observer le cas de Pauline Marois, qui a été la première femme d’un grand parti, en 2008, à se présenter aux élections provinciales. En étudiant les chroniques et les éditoriaux de La Presse et du Devoir, nous avons cherché à savoir si la chef du Parti québécois avait été traitée différemment par rapport à ses adversaires, Jean Charest, chef du Parti libéral du Québec et premier ministre sortant et Mario Dumont, chef de l’Action démocratique du Québec. Nous avons découvert entre autres que Pauline Marois avait été associée davantage aux enjeux sociaux alors que Jean Charest et Mario Dumont avaient été rapprochés à l’économie. En outre, les commentateurs ont beaucoup plus abordé la question de l’apparence dans le cas de la chef du Parti québécois, alors que cela a été minime chez les autres chefs. Même si plusieurs nuances s’appliquent, notamment le contexte de la campagne électorale, nous avons conclu que Pauline Marois avait eu une couverture médiatique différente, surtout en ce qui a trait à la variable de l’apparence.

On the symbiosis of law and truth in Christian theology: Reconciling universal and particular through the Pauline law of love

This article argues that the secular liberal and positivist foundations of the modern Western legal system render it violent. In particular, the liberal exclusion of faith and subjectivity in favour of abstract and universal reason in conjunction with its privileging of individual autonomy at the expense of the community leads to alienation of the individual from the community. Similarly, the positivist exclusion of faith and theology from law, with its enforced conformity to the posited law, also results in this violence of alienation. In response, this article proposes a new foundation for law, a natural law based in the truth of Trinitarian theology articulated by John Milbank. In the Trinity, the members exist as a perfect unity in diversity, providing a model for the reconciliation of the legal individual and community: the law of love. Through the law of love as the basic norm, individuals love their neighbours as themselves, reconciling the particular and the universal, and providing a community of peace rather than violence.

Frances E. W. Harper and Pauline E. Hopkins: the uplifting of black women through literature

A presente dissertação tem como objetivo apresentar duas influentes autoras afro-americanas do século XIX, Frances E. W. Harper e Pauline E. Hopkins. Ambas as autoras, através de seus romances Iola Leroy, or, Shadows Uplifted (1892) e Contending Forces: a Romance Illustrative of Negro Life North and South (1900) respectivamente, entrelaçam ficção e história com o propósito de criar novas alternativas de discurso, afastando-se, portanto, do oficial. Ademais, o presente trabalho propõe demonstrar como Frances Harper e Pauline Hopkins fazem uso do espaço literário com a finalidade de escrever a história do oprimido, permitindo, principalmente, que as mulheres afro-americanas dessem voz as suas experiências e as suas próprias histórias. Assim sendo, a literatura produzida por Frances e Harper e Pauline Hopkins será analisada como forma de empoderamento da comunidade afro-americana, principalmente como forma de aquisição de poder para as Mulheres Afro-Americanas.

Rotating Brains / Beating Heart:International collaborative performance with Stelarc, the virtual reality ensemble Avatar Orchestra Metaverse, Pauline Oliveros, Martin Parker and saxophonist Franziska Schroeder.

The work ROTATING BRAINS / BEATING HEART was specifically developed for the opening performance of the 2010 DRHA conference. The conference’s theme ‘Sensual Technologies: Collaborative Practices of Interdisciplinarity explored collaborative relationships between the body and sensual/sensing technologies across various disciplines, looking to new approaches offered by various emerging fields and practices that incorporate new and existing technologies. The conference had a specific focus on SecondLife with roundtable events and discussions, led by performance artist Stelarc, as well as international participation via SecondLife.
The collaboration between Stelarc, the Avatar Orchestra Metaverse (AOM) and myself as the DRHA2010 conference program chair was a unique occurrence for this conference.
