Permanent Genetic Resources added to Molecular Ecology Resources Database 1 May 2009-31 July 2009

This article documents the addition of 512 microsatellite marker loci and nine pairs of Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) sequencing primers to the Molecular Ecology Resources Database. Loci were developed for the following species: Alcippe morrisonia morrisonia, Bashania fangiana, Bashania fargesii, Chaetodon vagabundus, Colletes floralis, Coluber constrictor flaviventris, Coptotermes gestroi, Crotophaga major, Cyprinella lutrensis, Danaus plexippus, Fagus grandifolia, Falco tinnunculus, Fletcherimyia fletcheri, Hydrilla verticillata, Laterallus jamaicensis coturniculus, Leavenworthia alabamica, Marmosops incanus, Miichthys miiuy, Nasua nasua, Noturus exilis, Odontesthes bonariensis, Quadrula fragosa, Pinctada maxima, Pseudaletia separata, Pseudoperonospora cubensis, Podocarpus elatus, Portunus trituberculatus, Rhagoletis cerasi, Rhinella schneideri, Sarracenia alata, Skeletonema marinoi, Sminthurus viridis, Syngnathus abaster, Uroteuthis (Photololigo) chinensis, Verticillium dahliae, Wasmannia auropunctata, and Zygochlamys patagonica. These loci were cross-tested on the following species: Chaetodon baronessa, Falco columbarius, Falco eleonorae, Falco naumanni, Falco peregrinus, Falco subbuteo, Didelphis aurita, Gracilinanus microtarsus, Marmosops paulensis, Monodelphis Americana, Odontesthes hatcheri, Podocarpus grayi, Podocarpus lawrencei, Podocarpus smithii, Portunus pelagicus, Syngnathus acus, Syngnathus typhle,Uroteuthis (Photololigo) edulis, Uroteuthis (Photololigo) duvauceli and Verticillium albo-atrum. This article also documents the addition of nine sequencing primer pairs and sixteen allele specific primers or probes for Oncorhynchus mykiss and Oncorhynchus tshawytscha; these primers and assays were cross-tested in both species.

Encontro de cuidado, vivido e dialogado, da equipe de enfermagem com o ser-criança que convive com AIDS

O estudo busca compreender o significado do cuidado para a equipe de Enfermagem no estar-com o ser-criança que convive com AIDS - sob o olhar da Teoria de Enfermagem Humanística de Paterson e Zderad. Constitui-se em um estudo qualitativo com abordagem existencial fenomenológica, que utiliza, para coleta de informações, a entrevista semi-estruturada, proposta por Triviños. Para análise das informações, fundamenta-se na abordagem hermenêutica proposta por Motta e Crossetti, à luz de Ricoeur. O estudo se desenvolveu em uma Unidade de Internação Pediátrica e teve, como informantes, quatro enfermeiros e quatro auxiliares de Enfermagem. Desvelaram-se nos discursos três temas e seus respectivos sub temas: Existencialidade do ser-criança que convive com AIDS, com os subtemas Ser-no-mundo-com-o-outro; Expressividade no mundo do cuidado; Temporalidade e historicidade; O estar-com do ser-familiar e O ser-familiar como um ser de cuidado. Expressividade do cuidado: ser, saber e fazer compartilhado e seus subtemas: O cuidar como um ato de vida; Cuidado autêntico; O encontro vivido e dialogado; Cuidar de si como abertura ao encontro de cuidado; A aproximação da maternagem; O aproximar o mundo do hospital do mundo da criança e A atitude de compaixão. O vivenciar e o experienciar a facticidade do ser humano com os subtemas: O conviver com a finitude do ser e A ética no cuidado.

Two new mermithidis (Nematoda: Mermithidae) parasites of Simulium wolffhuegeli Roubaud and S. jujuyense (Paterson & Shannon) (Diptera: Simuliidae) in Argentina

Two new species of mermithids (Nematoda: Mermithidae), Gastromermis doloresi n. sp. a parasite of Simulium wolffhuegeli Roubaud and Hydromermis doloresi n. sp. a parasite of S. jujuyense (Paterson & Shannon) from Córdoba, Argentina, are described and illustrated. G. doloresi n. sp. is characterized by having medium sized, pear-shaped and oval amphids, eight hypodermal chords all around the body, cylindrical S-shaped vagina, single long spicule 528 [mi]m, whith teh sculpture tip, three rows of genital papillae in which the middle row contains 17 pre-anal and 9 post-anal papillae, and lateral rows contain 18 papillae. Hydromermis doloresi n. sp. can be distinghished by the following: medium sized, pear-shaped amphids, eight hypodermal chords, a cylindrical, S-shaped vagina, one short curved spicule with sculpture and genital papillae in three rows. The medium ventral row of papillae has 4 double and 9 single pre-anal papillae and 3 double and 6 single port-anal papillae, lateral rows have 18 single papillae each.

Regulation of Ras.GTP loading and Ras-Raf association in neonatal rat ventricular myocytes by G protein-coupled receptor agonists and phorbol ester. Activation of the extracellular signal-regulated kinase cascade by phorbol ester is mediated by Ras.

The small G protein Ras has been implicated in hypertrophy of cardiac myocytes. We therefore examined the activation (GTP loading) of Ras by the following hypertrophic agonists: phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA), endothelin-1 (ET-1), and phenylephrine (PE). All three increased Ras.GTP loading by 10-15-fold (maximal in 1-2 min), as did bradykinin. Other G protein-coupled receptor agonists (e.g. angiotensin II, carbachol, isoproterenol) were less effective. Activation of Ras by PMA, ET-1, or PE was reduced by inhibition of protein kinase C (PKC), and that induced by ET-1 or PE was partly sensitive to pertussis toxin. 8-(4-Chlorophenylthio)-cAMP (CPT-cAMP) did not inhibit Ras.GTP loading by PMA, ET-1, or PE. The association of Ras with c-Raf protein was increased by PMA, ET-1, or PE, and this was inhibited by CPT-cAMP. However, only PMA and ET-1 increased Ras-associated mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase 1-activating activity, and this was decreased by PKC inhibition, pertussis toxin, and CPT-cAMP. PMA caused the rapid appearance of phosphorylated (activated) extracellular signal-regulated kinase in the nucleus, which was inhibited by a microinjected neutralizing anti-Ras antibody. We conclude that PKC- and Gi-dependent mechanisms mediate the activation of Ras in myocytes and that Ras activation is required for stimulation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase by PMA.
