Pesquería y biología de la anguila común Ophichthus pacifici (Günther) en el Perú

Presenta información sobre los principales aspectos biológicos y pesqueros efectuado durante la actividad extractiva de la anguila común frente a Paita; con el fin de estudiar, conocer el potencial y disponibilidad cuantificada del recurso para así estimar sus posiblidades de explotación.

Caracterización especiológica bentodemersal durante el crucero de investigación del recurso merluza BIC Jose Olaya Balandra 9901

Los lances de pesca se efectuaron entre 96 y 560 m de profundidad, del 7 al 26 de enero de 1999, frente al área entre Huarmey (10°5 'S) y Puerto Pizarro (3°29 'S). Se registraron 168 especies: 97 peces y 71 invertebrados (35 crustáceos, 19 moluscos, 8 equinodermos, 3 poliquetos y 6 cnidarios). La captura total fue de 19.962,13 kg, de los cuales 18.041,53 kg (90,38%) correspondieron a peces; 93,88 kg (0.47%) a crustáceos; 11,65 kg (0,06%) a moluscos; 7,69 kg (0,04%) a equinodermos; 0,64 kg (0,03%) a poliquetos y 1.806,74 kg (9,05%) a cnidarios. El falso volador Prionotus stephanophrys destacó por su abundancia y frecuencia, habiéndose capturado 6.755,26 kg (33,8% del volumen total), seguido por la merluza Merluccius gayi peruanus con 4.823,99 kg (24,2%) y la cabrilla Paralabrax humeralis con 4.581,23 kg (23,0%). Se analiza también la distribución latitudinal y batimétrica de la fauna registrada, y se presentan las tallas de tres especies de peces (anguila común Ophichthus pacifici, congrio negro Cherublemma emmelas y el pez guadaña Hoplostethus pacificus) capturadas durante cinco operaciones de pesca. La diversidad específica y equitabilidad referidas a la merluza son objeto de análisis, y se determina que son significativamente bajas en el estrato I de la mayoría de subáreas en estudio, donde alcanzan valores hasta de cero, a excepción de la subárea F, mientras que en los estratos II y III de las subáreas A, B, C, D y F alcanzaron valores significativos.

Condición reproductiva de Engraulis Ringens y Vinciguerria Lucetia Pacifici en el mar peruano durante la primavera 1998

Se da a conocer el estado reproductivo de anchoveta por grados latitudinales y por rangos de talla (12,0 - 13,5 cm y de 14,0 - 16,5 cm). Se observa un distinto comportamiento reproductivo de anchoveta en cada uno de los rangos de talla y en las zonas de muestreo, evidenciándose que esta especie no se encuentra en su periodo de desove. Por el contrario, Vinciguerria lucetia pacifici se encontraba desovando; la talla de primera madurez sexual para las hembras se calculó en 5,3 cm; igualmente la talla de primer desove fue estimada en 5,3 cm. La anguila Ophichthus remiger en aguas de las Islas Lobos de Afuera, Lambayeque, durante el 2005

Con relación a un programa de monitoreo de la especie en los alrededores de las islas Lobos de Afuera, se estudiaron aspectos biológicos pesqueros, abundancia relativa, y esfuerzo pesqueros de la anguila común en relación a parámetros ambientales.

Edad y crecimiento de Ophichthus remiger (Valenciennes) en el norte del mar peruano, 2004

Se estudia la edad y crecimiento de Ophichthus remiger “anguila” interpretando los anillos de crecimiento de 1160 pares de otolitos, de Tumbes a Paita (3°27S–5°S) en el 2004. La relación Radio del otolito (mm) y Longitud del pez (cm) fue de tendencia lineal positiva con r2 = 0,94. Se determinaron los parámetros de crecimiento para machos y hembras: Lt= 136,5*(1-e(-0,129*(t+0,105) ) ), hembras: Lt = 136,0*(1-e(-0,1316*(t+0,105) ) ) y machos Lt = 114,0*(1-e(-0,159*(t+0,105) ) ). Existe diferencia en el crecimiento de longitud a favor de las hembras.

The reproductive cycle of Ophichthus rufus (Pisces: Anguilliformes) in the NW Mediterranean

The reproductive biology of the Mediterranean Snake cel, Ophichthus Rufus (Ophichthidae), was studied on the basis of microscopic and macroscopic analysis. Results show that O.rufus is an oviparous species with a group synchronous ovary type. The maturation process of the gonads starts in December and progress until August, when ovulation and a pawing take place. It is a fractional spawned with buoyant eggs. Potential annual fecundity estimates ranged from 1426 to 23.605 oocytes. Except for small sizes, a clear predominance of females was observed

Feeding habits of Ophichthus rufus (Anguilliformes, Ophichthidae) in the western Mediterranean

Ophichthus Rufus is a Mediterranean benthic fish with nocturnal habits. It lives in sand or mud bottoms at depths between 50 and 150m. Until now, nothing about its feeding habits was known. Stomach contents of 689 individuals, collected between 1985 and 1987, were analysed. The diet is basically composed of benthic organisms, among which the decapods processa canaliculata and Alpheus glaber and the teleost fish Callionymus maculatus are prominent. Young of both sexes and adult males have a euryphagic carnivorous diet, whereas adult females are closer to a stenophagic piscivorous diet

Quantitative determination of optical transmission through subwavelength slit arrays in Ag films: Role of surface wave interference and local coupling between adjacent slits

Measurement of the transmitted intensity from a coherent monomode light source through a series of subwavelength slit arrays in Ag films, with varying array pitch and number of slits, demonstrates enhancement (suppression) by factors of as much as 6 (9) when normalized to the transmission efficiency of an isolated slit. Pronounced minima in the transmitted intensity are observed at array pitches corresponding to lambda(SPP), 2 lambda(SPP), and 3 lambda(SPP), where lambda(SPP) is the wavelength of the surface plasmon polariton (SPP). The position of these minima arises from destructive interference between incident propagating waves and pi-phase-shifted SPP waves. Increasing the number of slits to four or more does not increase appreciably the per-slit transmission intensity. A simple interference model fits well the measured transmitted intensity profile.

Active Learning of Very-High Resolution Optical Imagery with SVM: Entropy vs Margin Sampling

An active learning method is proposed for the semi-automatic selection of training sets in remote sensing image classification. The method adds iteratively to the current training set the unlabeled pixels for which the prediction of an ensemble of classifiers based on bagged training sets show maximum entropy. This way, the algorithm selects the pixels that are the most uncertain and that will improve the model if added in the training set. The user is asked to label such pixels at each iteration. Experiments using support vector machines (SVM) on an 8 classes QuickBird image show the excellent performances of the methods, that equals accuracies of both a model trained with ten times more pixels and a model whose training set has been built using a state-of-the-art SVM specific active learning method

Decision fusion for the classification of hyperspectral data: Outcome of the 2008 GRS-S data fusion contest

The 2008 Data Fusion Contest organized by the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Data Fusion Technical Committee deals with the classification of high-resolution hyperspectral data from an urban area. Unlike in the previous issues of the contest, the goal was not only to identify the best algorithm but also to provide a collaborative effort: The decision fusion of the best individual algorithms was aiming at further improving the classification performances, and the best algorithms were ranked according to their relative contribution to the decision fusion. This paper presents the five awarded algorithms and the conclusions of the contest, stressing the importance of decision fusion, dimension reduction, and supervised classification methods, such as neural networks and support vector machines.

Cet exemplaire de la Lectura d’Henri de Suso sur les Décrétales, dont il ne reste que le premier volume, présente la particularité de contenir aussi le texte des Décrétales, chacune d’elles étant suivie par le commentaire correspondant. Certaines anomalies de la copie permettent de préciser que les copistes avaient comme modèle deux manuscrits différents, un pour la Lectura et l’autre pour les Décrétales dans une édition augmentée des Novelles d'Innocent IV, qui devaient être insérées à la suite des titres correspondants, selon la prescription pontificale de 1245. Le texte même des Novelles qui n’était pas commenté dans la Lectura n’a pas été repris dans la copie, sauf l’Extravagante Quia frequenter, au f. 37v, et Sext. I, 13, 1, au f. 133. F. 1-360v. Multi-modal Change Detection, Application to the Detection of Flooded Areas: Outcome of the 2009-2010 data fusion contest

The 2009-2010 Data Fusion Contest organized by the Data Fusion Technical Committee of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society was focused on the detection of flooded areas using multi-temporal and multi-modal images. Both high spatial resolution optical and synthetic aperture radar data were provided. The goal was not only to identify the best algorithms (in terms of accuracy), but also to investigate the further improvement derived from decision fusion. This paper presents the four awarded algorithms and the conclusions of the contest, investigating both supervised and unsupervised methods and the use of multi-modal data for flood detection. Interestingly, a simple unsupervised change detection method provided similar accuracy as supervised approaches, and a digital elevation model-based predictive method yielded a comparable projected change detection map without using post-event data.

A longitudinal study of environmental tobacco smoke exposure in children: parental self reports versus age dependent biomarkers

Background: Awareness of the negative effects of smoking on children's health prompted a decrease in the self-reporting of parental tobacco use in periodic surveys from most industrialized countries. Our aim is to assess changes between ETS exposure at the end of pregnancy and at 4 years of age determined by the parents' self-report and measurement of cotinine in age related biological matrices.Methods: The prospective birth cohort included 487 infants from Barcelona city (Spain). Mothers were asked about maternal and household smoking habit. Cord serum and children's urinary cotinine were analyzed in duplicate using a double antibody radioimmunoassay. Results: At 4 years of age, the median urinary cotinine level in children increased 1.4 or 3.5 times when father or mother smoked, respectively. Cotinine levels in children's urine statistically differentiated children from smoking mothers (Geometric Mean (GM) 19.7 ng/ml; 95% CI 16.83–23.01) and exposed homes (GM 7.1 ng/ml; 95% CI 5.61–8.99) compared with non-exposed homes (GM 4.5 ng/ml; 95% CI 3.71–5.48). Maternal self-reported ETS exposure in homes declined in the four year span between the two time periods from 42.2% to 31.0% (p < 0.01). Nevertheless, most of the children considered non-exposed by their mothers had detectable levels of cotinine above 1 ng/mL in their urine.Conclusion: We concluded that cotinine levels determined in cord blood and urine, respectively, were useful for categorizing the children exposed to smoking and showed that a certain increase in ETS exposure during the 4-year follow-up period occurred.
