The present work is a study on the functions performed by landmarks landscape Natal / RN in the urban fabric, in the case of Midway Mall, the Portico dos Reis Magos, the Morro do Careca and Newton Navarro Bridge. For such goals established itself as analyze the functionality of the milestones presented here in the urban fabric; discuss the importance of these landmarks of the city landscape in the process of urbanization of Natal, and identify and spatialize actions related to the use of territories where are located landmarks, discussing their reflections. To achieve these goals we chose to use as a literature search procedures, the problematic concept, working with oral sources, and reading speechless. To support this research the main concepts were worked landscape, city, landmark, public space, circuits, among others. After going over the theory, consistent with the empirical data, it appears that the landmarks studied here have different functions and features, but all carry different forms of fascination for the public and visitors to the city, and every man your way, influence the public space, land speculation and feature importance in the process of urbanization of Natal

The Passo da Pátria is one of the areas of housing in the city of Natal/RN, presents characteristics of insecurity on ways to live and access to goods and services. The project of urbanization called Integrated Project Passo da Pátria implemented since 2002 by the public power wants to change this picture. In Passo da Pátria system of classifications of space operated by the villagers signals to singularities that allows the identification of four pieces: Pedra do Rosário , Passo , Areado and Pantanal . The actions of the Project of Urbanization promote a new socio-space configuration. Our objective is to examine ways of appropriation of space in Passo da Pátria , built by the residents, which included their cultural practices giving symbolic meaning to the four pieces. The methodological procedures consisted of: literature review of the themes of the City, Urban, Segregation socio-space, Space, the Public Policies in urban area and texts on the Passo da Pátria ; desk research and interviews with old residents, recent residents, and these: men, women, young, and leaders of the Passo da Pátria . The evaluation of the data indicates that residents live positively the action of the public power as regards the expansion of urban infrastructure and services. At the same time, negative value of the shares removal of residents and idea of integration for the different pieces that form the Passo da Pátria , for them, these actions desconstroem times, experiences and narratives that are expressed in their relations with the space in which live

thèse de maîtrise, qui a été idealizée et exécutée à partir de la réunion et les relations dialogiques établies entre la géographie et l'histoire, et l'espace et le temps, a considéré l'environnement urbain comme le thème général et, comme la référence empirique, l'espace urbain de Caicó, incrusté dans les terres semi-arides du Sertão do Seridó Potiguar, plus précisément à la mi-sud de l'État du Rio Grande do Norte. Dans cet espace, à travers de recherche des fragments de mémoires acquis de diverses sources historiques, on a tenté de faire des investigations sur les transformations urbaines qui ont eu lieu dans la ville au cours des années 50 et 60 du XXe siècle. Ces transformations, dans l espace urbain de Caicó à un moment du pic de l'activité de développement de coton, reflétaient et conditionnaient les propres projets de modernization urbaine qui représentants des élites locales eurent conçu avec l'objectif de la construction d une ville idéal dans les regions isolées du Seridó: moderne, civilisé, progressive et capitale régionale du Seridó. Pour cette construction, les nouveaux équipements et services urbains ont passé du plan imaginaire à l espace réel, installés dans plusieurs quartiers de la ville en transformant le paysage urbain. Face à cette situation, cinémas, magasins, station de radio, énergie électrique, institutions de l'éducation, téléphonie, maison de soins infirmiers, usine de bénéficiement de coton, banques, politiques urbaines, hygiéniques et sanitaires, modes de comportement, sociabilités urbaines distincttes, parmi d'autres éléments géographiques se sont institués à travers la réalisation de certains idéaux de progrès social et dans un esprit de modernité urbaine, dans de nouveaux espaces et pratiques inventés, tramés et éprouvés sur les rochers et entre le cours d eau au milieu d'un quotidien urbain marqué par ruptures et permanence de certaines coutumes et habitudes antiques et de certains paysages et environnement ridé

Com o acentuado ritmo de urbanização nos centros das cidades, surgiram problemas de ordem ambiental, social e económica, que se constituem, nos nossos dias, como um desafio para a descoberta de um futuro sustentável para as urbes. O conceito de “sustentabilidade” tem vindo a ganhar importância nas últimas décadas, nomeadamente no sector da construção. As intervenções de reabilitação urbana sobre o espaço público assumem-se como uma prioridade nacional e uma oportunidade para um Desenvolvimento Urbano Sustentável. Esta área, para além de contribuir para o equilíbrio social e a melhoria da qualidade de vida das populações, é também uma actividade determinante para a dinamização económica, a geração de emprego e a poupança de recursos naturais (Amado, et al., 2012). O planeamento urbano assume um papel determinante na implementação dos objectivos da reabilitação urbana. A preocupação com o desenvolvimento equilibrado das cidades tem motivado o desenvolvimento de diversos estudos com propostas de medidas para uma reabilitação urbana sustentável. A nível político têm sido implementados alguns programas como o JESSICA e o Lx-Europa 2020, bem como o surgimento das Sociedades de Reabilitação Urbanas. Diversos países, a nível mundial, têm vindo a desenvolver e adoptar instrumentos para auxílio e avaliação das medidas definidas nos planos das suas cidades. Esses instrumentos, que se baseiam em indicadores de sustentabilidade, representam uma função importante na aplicação das medidas estratégicas, pois permitem avaliar o desempenho ao longo do tempo de determinado parâmetro e adoptar medidas de recuperação em tempo útil. A utilização de indicadores de sustentabilidade possibilita o tratamento de informações que são avaliadas quantitativamente ou qualitativamente, conduzindo à descrição e evolução de determinado dado das cidades. O presente trabalho surge com o objectivo de, a partir dos problemas considerados determinantes para a reabilitação do espaço público (mobilidade, segurança e diversidade), e com base nos trabalhos que têm vindo a ser desenvolvidos com vista a um futuro sustentável, desenvolver uma ferramenta, de fácil utilização e interpretação, que auxilie as entidades competentes na elaboração dos planos estratégicos, na avaliação e monitorização das acções de reabilitação urbana de forma sustentável.

The changes that are observed in these spaces and in the relations established there, or with it, are related to changes that occurred in the city as a whole, in the urban way of living. Study public space allied to urban sociability permits an even better focus on this relation between people in these spaces and with the spaces and in the consequences and fragile aspects this relation can impose to people and cities. This work is aimed towards this relation between public space and urban sociability. Through a conceptual/theoretical discussion aims, specifically, comprehend how to establish and what is the relation between urban space and urban sociability (appropriation/perception of place, tendencies of seclusion), from an isolated analysis of each one of these themes in the contemporaneous city. The Brazilian public space has peculiar characteristics, arising from its historical process of construction, also influenced by the public sphere fragile construction that permeates it, as well as more recent variables such as the sensation of insecurity and commodification of these places. The urban sociability influences and is influenced along all this process of significance and reframing of the public space. The conceptual discussion about each isolate variable provides the necessary coverage for discussion and analysis of the relation between them and the consequence of this relation in the city, such as the notation of relevant experiences of this process of revaluation of the public space. The hereby search is not through a path to reestablish the relation as it already existed, but also for an understanding of the dynamic as is established today and for existing possibilities for maintenance and appreciation of the relation between people and the city by believing in its importance to urban life

It investigates the perception of the public space in the city of Natal. It approaches, therefore apprehension forms, entails and experiences, in the formalization in the way of seeing, to live and to interact with that part of the urban territoriality. With that perspective, they were focalized, especially, three periods lived in Natal: the first two decades of the century XX, the beginning of the forties, also of the previous century, and the scenery with which that city comes at the present time. With that direction, it puts back in focus, and for reflection, not just an universe that makes possible the people to interact, independent of the individual will of each one, but also the importance of that interaction for the social and political life of the city and for the formation of a wider and interactive vision of the people with yours surroundings

First refers to a bibliographical review concerning two main issues of the investigation: product design and legibility of public space, defining the conceptual and theoretical bases, linked to methodological strategies aimed at systemic planning and integrated management of urban furniture design and legibility of public spaces (sidewalks), that are necessary to define the existing relationships among the user s interface (pedestrians); product (urban artifacts); built environment (sidewalks). The second part refers to the achievement of empirical approach throughout visual analysis of public spaces and the functional and qualitative evaluation of the existing urban furniture in the central neighborhood of Cidade Alta, Natal, RN, according to the theoretical researched concepts and methodological procedures. The results expose the weaknesses and levels of intensity arising from the relations among public space, urban furniture, and users, revealing the need for theoretical and practical approaches which would help the decision-making in planning, designing and integrating innovative, sustainable, and ethical solutions in order to design attractive public spaces that could provide sociability and citizenship throughout integrated public management, city systemic thinking and urban identity. The suggested guidelines at the end of this research will provide the necessary strategies to design suitable urban furniture systems according to aesthetic and practical urban infrastructure and city context, aiming to ease visual and physical conflicts that may negatively interfere with the appropriation of public spaces by the citizens

Studies on the urban landscape and on the changes of the urban space are relevant, since they reveal the economic dynamics and the way of life in the cities. Research on small towns, in particular, can display particular aspects and by so doing broaden the comprehension of this theme. The purpose of this research is to analyze the changes in the urban landscape and in the way of life of the inhabitants of the town of Tenente Ananias-RN that have been taking place since the 1990s up to the present (2013) and which result mainly from the commercial activity of crediário. The study is, therefore, a reflection on the impact of crediário economy on the urban landscape and on the way of life of a small town located in the hinterland of the State of Rio Grande do Norte. For this reason, it was necessary to study the landscape and the way of life found in Tenente Ananias in two moments: a) before the rise of the crediário, a period of time ranging from the town‟s initial emergence until the beginning of the 1990s; b) during the progress of crediário activity, from the beginning of the 1990s, when it starts, up to the present (2013). For this research, primary data (interviews, local survey visits) and secondary data (books, articles, reports, census data) were used. As a result of this study, it was possible to conclude that crediário plays a fundamental role for the explanation of the changes taking place in Tenente Ananias-RN, especially in the urban landscape and in the way of life of people. We have attempted, through this research, to contribute to the studies of a historical, social and economic process related to the urban landscape and space of a small town in the State of Rio Grande do Norte

No contexto da sucessiva redefinição do conceito de património, a arquitetura vernácula tenderá a assumir a sua importância a partir da segunda metade do século passado, alcançando estatuto próprio na Carta sobre o Património Construído Vernáculo de 1999. Em Portugal, adquirem particular relevância os trabalhos desenvolvidos em diferentes âmbitos, desde a antropologia à arquitetura, passando pela agronomia e pela geografia, que culminariam em diferentes sínteses sobre o tema, alargadas a todo o território nacional continental. Essa abordagem só no final dos anos 60 viria a ser ensaiada, à escala da região do Algarve, no pioneiro trabalho desenvolvido pela equipa dirigida pelo Arq.º Cabeça Padrão, no âmbito da Secção de Defesa e Recuperação da Paisagem Urbana da Direcção-Geral dos Serviços de Urbanização (DGSU), sob o título “Prospecção, Preservação e Recuperação de Elementos Urbanísticos e Arquitectónicos Notáveis, em Áreas Urbanas e Marginais Viárias, na Região do Algarve”, constituindo um de três estudos complementares a integrar o Plano Regional do Algarve. Dos 49 volumes projectados a partir de 1965, abrangendo 47 aglomerados urbanos de dimensões muito diversas e maioritariamente localizados na faixa litoral da região, apenas de cerca de metade se conhece hoje o paradeiro. Mas se bem que rapidamente tenham sido remetidos - até muito recentemente -, ao esquecimento dos arquivos, e pese embora o seu carácter datado, constituem um conjunto documental singular de inegável importância, pela metodologia e propostas que encerram, no contexto da evolução histórica dos conceitos e práticas de valorização e conservação patrimonial (em particular no que se refere ao património arquitectónico urbano de carácter vernáculo) e de planeamento e intervenção em áreas urbanas consolidadas. Importância reforçada pelo extenso levantamento fotográfico produzido e onde se fixou um momento histórico charneira documentando o início de profundas transformações - que se acentuariam nas décadas subsequentes -, entre outras razões, por força da emergente importância do turismo. Com a presente comunicação pretende-se resgatar do esquecimento um trabalho verdadeiramente pioneiro (mesmo em termos mundiais) no que se refere à preservação e recuperação da paisagem urbana do Algarve, avaliando a sua metodologia e abordagem particular no âmbito das intervenções em espaço urbano e retomando um processo de análise e caracterização da arquitetura tradicional da região a partir do valioso espólio fotográfico constante neste estudo.
