报道了基于双面反射镜的N×N光开关器件。介绍了使用双面反射镜的2×2, 4×4光开关的集成光路设计和工作原理; 采用Benes网络, 以2×2和4×4光开关为基本单元的N×N光开关器件的整体结构, 并根据“一笔画”原理, 分析了4×4, 8×8和16×16光开关矩阵的可重排无阻塞特性和光开关矩阵的光路选择算法。最后, 基于2×2, 4×4光开关技术制备了16×16光开关矩阵。测试表明, 该器件具有良好的插入损耗、回波损耗、串扰和开关时间等性能, 从而验证了设计思想和工艺的可行性。在基于双面反射镜的光开关矩

Future switching technology: bacterial protein-based programmable all-optical switch for integrated optics applications?

We report on the bacterial protein-based all-optical switches which operate at low laser power, high speed and fulfil most of the requirements to be an ideal all-optical switch without any moving parts involved. This consists of conventional optical waveguides coated with bacteriorhodopsin films at switching locations. The principle of operation of the switch is based on the light-induced refractive index change of bacteriorhodopsin. This approach opens the possibility of realizing proteinbased all-optical switches for communication network, integrated optics and optical computers.

Free-Space Interconnect for Optical Switch and Analogue Neural Network

In this paper, the architecture of a vector-matrix multiplier (MVM) is simulated. The optical design can be made compact by the use of GRIN lenses for the optical fan-in. Polarization analysis and experimental implementation of PLZT electro-optical switch using fiber Sagnac interferometers

The polarization characteristics of electro-optical (EO) switches using fiber Sagnac interferometer (FSI) structures are theoretically investigated. Analytical solutions of output fields are presented when the twists and birefringence in a Sagnac loop are considered. Numerical calculations show that the twists of fiber, the orientation of the inserted phase retarder, and the splitting ratio of the coupler will influence both the output intensity and the output polarization properties of the proposed switch. A polarization-independent EO switch based on a Sagnac interferometer and a PUT bar was experimentally implemented, which showed good coincidence with the analytical results. Experimental demonstration of femtosecond switching of a fully packaged all-optical switch

We experimentally demonstrate femtosecond switching of a fully packaged hybrid-integrated Mach-Zehnder switch. A record switching window of 620fs at fult-width-half-maximum is achieved. © 2004 Optical Society of America.

Low penalty cascaded operation of a monolithically integrated Quantum Dot 1×8 port optical switch

A novel Quantum Dot monolithically integrated 1×8 switch is shown to provide robust routing of data at 10Gb/s modulation rates. Two cascaded switches providing, 1×64 functionality, operate with a power penalty of only 0.9dB. © VDE VERLAG GMBH.
