Imaginar metáforas de amor, sexo e fé: uma leitura literária de Breaking the Waves (1996) de Lars von Trier

Either with words or images, the expression of feelings results, in a work of art, in communication. If this was not the case, the work would not require a spectator or a reader. And if words suggest images from what its author refers to and a countless number of figurations may happen, the images from a film reveal what you can see. We are often left with "just" the space for those facts to shape up as possible meanings to which we react with emotion or with a particular intellectualization, finding exactly what we call readings or interpretations. Starting from a definition of literature that we see spilled in the work prospected from the polysystem theory by Itamar Even-Zohar from the Porter Institute for Poetics and Semiotics (University of Tel-Aviv), we consider the dynamic character of every cultural moment/object. This is how a literary reading, that is to apply some of the methodologies in the interpretation of a literary work, is allowed to extend to other cultural objects. This is what we are going to do with Lars von Trier's Breaking the Waves, a landmark in cinema for what the movement and manifest Dogma 95 represents, but that for a literature reader particularly focused on the narration of love in its different manifestations - in which sex and faith are included - a corpus is revealed, filled with interpretative possibilities and emotional reactions, important condiments particularly to the spectator and/or interested reader.

The Butterfly Effect on Peace Education

The objective of this paper on peace education is to generate a reflection, through the metaphor of the butterfly effect, on the importance of educating for peace during the change process of human beings and society.  It proposes education for peace as a human right, an experience and learning process that is put into practice by human beings.  It aims at changing attitudes and actions to create harmonious relationships based on the respect and recognition of human rights, and the freedom and dignity of every person.

A ARTE DA RETÓRICA E A AUDIÊNCIA GEOGRÁFICA: A RELAÇÃO TEXTO-LEITOR SOB A ÓTICA DAS FIGURAS REPRESENTATIVAS DE DISCURSO E DOS MODOS DE NARRATIVA

O objetivo deste estudo é refletir sobre o papel da retórica sobre a compreensão e assimilação do discurso geográfico. Para isso, optou-se pela análise da obra de Smith, intitulada “Geographical Rhetoric: Modes and Tropes of Appeal”, na qual trata das quatro figuras representativas de discurso e dos quatro modos de narrativa básicos da arte da retórica. Smith alerta para a necessidade dos geógrafos reconhecerem a existência de múltiplas audiências com preferências e preconceitos retóricos, e que não são idênticas às categorias institucionais e epistemológicas existentes, ou seja, para se convencer uma audiência, não basta falar a verdade, mas é preciso confirmar seus preconceitos e respeitar suas preferências. Essa constatação de um problema que perpassa os textos e a arte da retórica geográfica levou Smith a elaborar dois “mapas” sobre a relação do texto com o leitor. O primeiro deles contrasta os quatro modos de narrativa de um texto (romance, tragédia, comédia e ironia) com os quatro modos de narrativa preferidas do leitor. O segundo mapeamento faz a mesma comparação, mas com referência às figuras de discursos predominantes no texto, como a metáfora, a metonímia, a sinédoque e a ironia. Smith explica que a razão para se preocupar com a questão da retórica é que quando favorecemos ou excluímos o estilo de um autor, automaticamente aceitamos ou rejeitamos acriticamente seus argumentos. Assim, por meio de uma reflexão baseada em autores especializados, foi possível constatar a importância da arte da retórica nos discursos geográficos.
