No tratamento da mensuração subsequente dos activos fixos tangíveis introduzimos o estudo da Revalorização do Activos Fixos Tangíveis, referindo as normas contabilísticas e as leis fiscais relacionadas e os impactos que traz para a empresa. aim of this research consist in show evidences about the accounting policy of value of revalorization of Tangible Assets and its impact in an entity, mainly in terms of taxation incoming. The approach is directed to the Cape-Verdean enterprise environment where is intended to give to know the legal and tax framing, as well illustrate with a practical case. This task was prepared based on specialized bibliographic researches, of normative established in the country and also the collecting of practical data about the theme and interviews with professionals in the area. We start from general to particular, that is, we started working on the contents of Tangible Assets in general, to later on get into the study object: the revalorization of Tangible Assets and thus give to know the impacts that this brings to an entity. The task tarts with the theoretical framing of concepts related with the phenomenon that lead one good lose its value along the years, as well other material goods directly connected to revalorization (example of maintenance of physical and financial capital). It is made a normative and general conceptual approach about the Tangible Assets: the recognizing, the measurable initiate and subsequently, the divulgation and the unknown. It is a comparative approach with the previous accounting system (National Accounting Plan). In the treatment of the measurable of Tangible Assets we introduced the study of Revalorization of Tangible Assets, referring the accounting rules and the related fiscal laws and the impacts that bring to the company.

BACKGROUND: For almost 30 years, phosphatidylethanol (PEth) has been known as a direct marker of alcohol consumption. This marker stands for consumption in high amounts and for a longer time period, but it has been also detected after 1 high single intake of ethanol (EtOH). The aim of this study was to obtain further information about the formation and elimination of PEth 16:0/18:1 by simulating extensive drinking. METHODS: After 3 weeks of alcohol abstinence, 11 test persons drank an amount of EtOH leading to an estimated blood ethanol concentration of 1 g/kg on each of 5 successive days. After the drinking episode, they stayed abstinent for 16 days with regular blood sampling. PEth 16:0/18:1 analysis was performed using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (high-performance liquid chromatography 1100 system and QTrap 2000 triple quadrupole linear ion trap mass spectrometer. Values of blood alcohol were obtained using a standardized method with headspace gas chromatography flame ionization detector. RESULTS: Maximum measured concentrations of EtOH were 0.99 to 1.83 g/kg (mean 1.32 g/kg). These values were reached 1 to 3 hours after the start of drinking (mean 1.9 hours). For comparison, 10 of 11 volunteers had detectable PEth 16:0/18:1 values 1 hour after the start of drinking, ranging from 45 to 138 ng/ml PEth 16:0/18:1. Over the following days, concentrations of PEth 16:0/18:1 increased continuously and reached the maximum concentrations of 74 to 237 ng/ml between days 3 and 6. CONCLUSIONS: This drinking experiment led to measurable PEth concentrations. However, PEth 16:0/18:1 concentrations stayed rather low compared with those of alcohol abusers from previous studies.

Paracoccidioidomycosis is a mycotic disease caused by a dimorphic fungus, Paracoccidioides brasiliensis (Pb), that starts with inhalation of the fungus; thus, lung cells such as DC are part of the first line of defense against this microorganism. Migration of DC to the lymph nodes is the first step in initiating T cell responses. The mechanisms involved in resistance to Pb infection are poorly understood, but it is likely that DC play a pivotal role in the induction of effector T cells that control Pb infection. In this study, we showed that after Pb Infection, an important modification of lung DC receptor expression occurred. We observed an increased expression of CCR7 and CD103 on lung DC after infection, as well as MHC-II. After Pb infection, bone marrow-derived DC as well lung DC, migrate to lymph nodes. Migration of lung DC could represent an important mechanism of pathogenesis during PCM infection. In resume our data showed that Pb induced DC migration. Furthermore, we demonstrated that bone marrow-derived DC stimulated by Pb migrate to the lymph nodes and activate a T helper (Th) response. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported data showing that Pb induces migration of DC and activate a T helper (Th) response.

Medium carbon steels are mostly used for simple applications; however, new applications have been developed for which good sheet metal formability is required. These types of steels have an inherent low formability. A medium-carbon hot-rolled SAE 1050 steel was selected for this study. It has been cold rolled with thickness reductions varying between 7 and 80%. The samples obtained were used to evaluate the strain hardening curve. For samples with a 50 and 80% thickness reduction, an annealing heat treatment was performed to achieve recrystallization. The material was characterized in the ""as-received"", cold rolled and annealed conditions using several methods: optical metallography, X-ray diffraction (texture), Vickers hardness, and tensile testing. For large thickness reductions, the SAE 1050 steel presented low elongation, less than 2%, and yield strength (YS) and tensile strength (TS) around 1400 MPa. Texture in the ""as-received"" condition showed strong components on the {001} plane, in the < 100 >, < 210 > and (110) directions. After cold rolling, the texture did not present any significant changes for small thickness reductions, however. It changed completely for large ones, where gamma, < 111 >//ND, alpha, < 110 > HRD, and gamma prime, < 223 >//ND, fibres were strengthened. After annealing, the microstructure of the SAE 1050 steel was characterized by recrystallized ferrite and globular cementite. There was little change in the alpha fibre for the 50% reduction, whereas for the 80% reduction, its intensity increased. Both gamma and gamma prime fibres vanished upon annealing for 50 and 80% reductions alike. (c) 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Background-In the Bypass Angioplasty Revascularization Investigation 2 Diabetes (BARI 2D) trial, an initial strategy of coronary revascularization and optimal medical treatment (REV) compared with an initial optimal medical treatment with the option of subsequent revascularization (MED) did not reduce all-cause mortality or the composite of cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, and stroke in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and stable ischemic heart disease. In the same population, we tested whether the REV strategy was superior to the MED strategy in preventing worsening and new angina and subsequent coronary revascularizations. Methods and Results-Among the 2364 men and women (mean age, 62.4 years) with type 2 diabetes mellitus, documented coronary artery disease, and myocardial ischemia, 1191 were randomized to the MED and 1173 to the REV strategy preselected in the percutaneous coronary intervention (796) and coronary artery bypass graft (377) strata. Compared with the MED strategy, the REV strategy at the 3-year follow-up had a lower rate of worsening angina (8% versus 13%; P < 0.001), new angina (37% versus 51%; P = 0.001), and subsequent coronary revascularizations (18% versus 33%; P < 0.001) and a higher rate of angina-free status (66% versus 58%; P = 0.003). The coronary artery bypass graft stratum patients were at higher risk than those in the percutaneous coronary intervention stratum, and had the greatest benefits from REV. Conclusions-In these patients, the REV strategy reduced the occurrence of worsening angina, new angina, and subsequent coronary revascularizations more than the MED strategy. The symptomatic benefits were observed particularly for high-risk patients.

Background: Surgical staging (SS) is the gold standard for determination of the true extent of a patient`s disease and is an important prognostic factor in cervical cancer. We investigated whether lymph node dissection (LND) prior to chemotherapy (CT) followed by radical surgery (RS) could modified overall (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS). Methods: We performed a cohort analysis of 98 patients with cervical carcinoma. The experimental group consisted of 36 patients who underwent SS followed by neoadjuvant chemotherapy, and then by RS (objective response) or chemo-radiation therapy (with or without subsequent surgery when not possible). The control group consisted of 62 similarly treated patients without pretreatment SS. The value of this procedure as a diagnostic tool in defining the extent of disease was evaluated. Furthermore, LND/CT-associated treatment complications and the impacts on OS and DFS were also evaluated. Results: Fourteen (38.9%) patients had pelvic LN metastases and three (8.3%) patients had pelvic and para-aortic LN metastases. The 39-month OS and DFS rates for the current study were 90.6% for the staged group and 52% for non-staged treatment (P < 0.001). Conclusion: SS in cervical cancer is a feasible and safe pretreatment procedure, and when associated with CT, it improves OS and DFS. J. Surg. Oncol. 2009;100:505-510. (C) 2009 Wiley-Liss, Inc.

Background Many studies have suggested that adolescence is a period of particular vulnerability to neurocognitive effects associated with substance misuse. However, few large studies have measured differences in cognitive performance between chronic cannabis users who started in early adolescence (before age 15) with those who started later. Aims To examine the executive functioning of individuals who started chronic cannabis use before age 15 compared with those who started chronic cannabis use after 15 and controls. Method We evaluated the performance of 104 chronic cannabis users (49 early-onset users and 55 late-onset users) and 44 controls who undertook neuropsychological tasks, with a focus on executive functioning. Comparisons involving neuropsychological measures were performed using generalised linear model analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results The early-onset group showed significantly poorer performance compared with the controls and the late-onset group on tasks assessing sustained attention, impulse control and executive functioning. Conclusions Early-onset chronic cannabis users exhibited poorer cognitive performance than controls and late-onset users in executive functioning. Chronic cannabis use, when started before age 15, may have more deleterious effects on neurocognitive functioning.

Aims: There has been emerging interest in the prenatal determinants of respiratory disease. In utero factors have been reported to play a role in airway development, inflammation, and remodeling. Specifically, prenatal exposure to endotoxins might regulate tolerance to allergens later in life. The present study investigated whether prenatal lipopolysaccharide (LPS) administration alters subsequent offspring allergen-induced inflammatory response in adult rats. Main methods: Pregnant Wistar rats were treated with LPS (100 mu g/kg, i.p.) on gestation day 9.5 and their ovariectomized female offspring were sensitized and challenged with OVA later in adulthood. The bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid, peripheral blood, bone marrow leukocytes and passive cutaneous anaphylaxis were evaluated in these 75-day-old pups. Key findings: OVA sensitized pups of NaCl treated rats showed an increase of leucocytes in BAL after OVA challenge. This increase was attenuated, when mothers were exposed to a single LPS injection early in pregnancy. Thus, LPS prenatal treatment resulted in (1) lower increased total and differential (macrophages, neutrophils, eosinophils and lymphocytes) BAL cellularity count; (2) increased number of total, mononuclear and polymorphonuclear cells in the peripheral blood; and (3) no differences in bone marrow cellularity or passive cutaneous anaphylaxis. Significance: In conclusion, female pups treated prenatally with LPS presented an attenuated response to experimentally-induced asthma. We observed reduced immune cell migration from peripheral blood to the lungs, with no effect on the production of bone marrow cells or antibodies. It was suggested that inflammatory events such as exposure to LPS in early fetal life can attenuate allergic inflammation in the lung, which is a common symptom in asthma. (C) 2011 Elsevier Inc. Horizontal root fractures are uncommon, mainly occurring on the cervical and middle third of the root of permanent upper incisors. The diagnosis is essentially radiographic and requires different healing patterns, depending on some pre- and postinjury factors. The aim of this article was to report the clinical management and different healing types in three cases of horizontal root fractures on permanent dentition. In case 1, the pulp tissue was vital and no treatment was necessary. In case 2, a root canal treatment of the cervical fragment was necessary and in case 3, pulpal necrosis was verified and an apical surgery was performed.

We describe the use of a murine model to evaluate resistance against subsequent challenge following a primary infection with oncospheres of Echinococcus granulosus. Mice (Kunming strain) were infected with hatched oncospheres of Echinococcus granulosus; 21 days later a second challenge was given by a different route of infection. A primary infection by intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection stimulated 100 and 90.5% protection in terms of reduced cyst numbers against a secondary infection given subcutaneously (s.c.) or intravenously (i.v.) respectively. A primary infection given s.c. followed by i.p. or i.v. challenge resulted in 84.0 and 100% protection, respectively. Intravenous infection followed by i.p. or s.c. challenge resulted in 98.5 and 69.4% protection, respectively. With the i.v. route of infection, almost all resultant cysts were present in the lungs. The data show that a primary infection with oncospheres can induce total or a high degree of protection against a subsequent challenge and confirms that natural (concomitant) immunity can be stimulated in the intermediate host as the result of a primary infection. This may explain the decline in hydatid infection in sheep older than 2 years in hyper-endemic areas such as those found in Xingjiang, China. These older sheep may have been earlier infected and have subsequently self-cured, with the primary infection stimulating an immune response that protects the intermediate host animals from further infection. It has been recognised that in order to study the displacement, timing and co-ordination of articulatory components (i.e., tongue. lips, jaw) in speech production it is desirable to obtain high-resolution movement data on multiple structures inside and outside the vocal tract. Until recently, with the exception of X-ray techniques such as cineradiography, the study 0. speech movements has been hindered by the inaccessibility of the oral cavity during speech. X-ray techniques are generally not used because of unacceptable radiation exposure. The aim of the present study was to demonstrate the use of a new physiological device, the electromagnetic articulograph, for assessing articulatory dysfunction subsequent to traumatic brain injury. The components of the device together with the measuring principle are described and data collected from a single case presented. A 19 year-old male who exhibited dysarthria subsequent to a traumatic brain injury was fitted wit 2 the electromagnetic articulograph (Carstens AG-100) and a kinematic analysis of his tongue movements during production of the lingual consonants it, s, k/ within single syllable words was performed. Examination of kinematic parameters including movemmt trajectories, velocity, and acceleration revealed differences in the speed and accuracy of his tongue movements compared to those produced by a non-neurologically impaired adult male. It was concluded that the articulograph is a useful device for diagnosing speed and accuracy disorders in tongue movements during speech and that the device has potential for incorporation into physiologically based rehabilitation programs as a real-time biofeedback instrument.

Objective: To document the acute characteristics of swallowing impairment in a group of children post moderate/severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) by means of videofluoroscopy. Participants: Eighteen children with moderate/severe TBI. Main Outcome Measure: Videofluoroscopy at an average of 27.7 days post-injury. Results: Subjects demonstrated a range of dysphagia severity levels: mild-moderate (n = 8), moderate (n = 6), moderate-severe (n = 3), and severe (n = 1) and had a combination of oral and pharyngeal phase characteristics. More specifically; observable features or physiological impairments that were identified included reduced lingual control, hesitancy of tongue movement, repetitive tongue pumping, the presence of aspiration (including silent aspiration), delayed swallow reflex trigger, reduced laryngeal elevation and closure, and reduced peristalsis. Conclusions: These data highlight the diversity of swallowing deficits and dysphagia severity levels in children following TBI and suggest that the former are consistent with a pattern of oropharyngeal impairments.

Background: Thalamotomy has been reported to be successful in ameliorating the motor symptoms of tremor and/or rigidity in people with Parkinson's disease (PD), emphasising the bona fide contribution of this subcortical nucleus to the neural circuitry subserving motor function. Despite evidence of parallel yet segregated associative and motor cortico-subcortical-cortical circuits, comparatively few studies have investigated the effects of this procedure on cognitive functions. In particular, research pertaining to the impact of thalamotomy on linguistic processes is fundamentally lacking. Aims: The purpose of this research was to investigate the effects of thalamotomy in the language dominant and non-dominant hemispheres on linguistic functioning, relative to operative theoretical models of subcortical participation in language. This paper compares the linguistic profiles of two males with PD, aged 75 years (10 years of formal education) and 62 years (22 years of formal education), subsequent to unilateral thalamotomy procedures within the language dominant and non-dominant hemispheres, respectively. Methods & Procedures: Comprehensive linguistic profiles comprising general and high-level linguistic abilities in addition to on-line semantic processing skills were compiled up to 1 month prior to surgery and 3 months post-operatively, within perceived on'' periods (i.e., when optimally medicated). Pre- and post-operative language performances were compared within-subjects to a group of 16 non-surgical Parkinson's controls (NSPD) and a group of 16 non-neurologically impaired adults (NC). Outcomes & Results: The findings of this research suggest a laterality effect with regard to the contribution of the thalamus to high-level linguistic abilities and, potentially, the temporal processing of semantic information. This outcome supports the application of high-level linguistic assessments and measures of semantic processing proficiency to the clinical management of individuals with dominant thalamic lesions. Conclusions: The results reported lend support to contemporary theories of dominant thalamic participation in language, serving to further elucidate our current understanding of the role of subcortical structures in mediating linguistic processes, relevant to cortical hemispheric dominance.
