Molecular dynamics simulations on parallel and antiparallel C.G*G triplexes

Molecular dynamics (MD) studies have been carried out on the Hoogsteen hydrogen bonded parallel and the reverse Hoogsteen hydrogen banded antiparallel C.G*G triplexes. Earlier, the molecular mechanics studies had shown that the parallel structure was energetically more favourable than the antiparallel structure. To characterize the structural stability of the two triplexes and to investigate whether the antiparallel structure can transit to an energetically more favourable structure, due to the local fluctuations in the structure during the MD simulation, the two structures were subjected to 200ps of constant temperature vacuum MD simulations at 300K. Initially no constraints were applied to the structures and it was observed that for the antiparallel tripler, the structure showed a large root mean square deviation from the starting structure within the first 12ps and the N4-H41-O6 hydrogen bond in the WC duplex got distorted due to a high propeller twist and a moderate increase in the opening angle in the basepairs. Starting from an initial value of 30 degrees, helical twist of the average structure from this simulation had a value of 36 degrees, while the parallel structure stabilized at a twist of 33 degrees. In spite of the hydrogen bond distortions in the antiparallel tripler, it was energetically comparable to the parallel tripler. To examine the structural characteristics of an undistorted structure, another MD simulation was performed on the antiparallel tripler by constraining all the hydrogen bonds. This structure stabilized at an average twist of 33 degrees. In the course of the dynamics though the energy of the molecule - compared to the initial structure - improved, it did not become comparable to the parallel structure. Energy minimization studies performed in the presence of explicit water and counterions also showed the two structures to be equally favourable energetically Together these results indicate that the parallel C.G*G tripler with Hoogsteen hydrogen bonds also represents a stereochemically and energetically favourable structure for this class of triplexes.

E. C. G. Sudarshan and Symmetry in Classical Dynamics, Optics and Quantum Mechanics

We review work initiated and inspired by Sudarshan in relativistic dynamics, beam optics, partial coherence theory, Wigner distribution methods, multimode quantum optical squeezing, and geometric phases. The 1963 No Interaction Theorem using Dirac's instant form and particle World Line Conditions is recalled. Later attempts to overcome this result exploiting constrained Hamiltonian theory, reformulation of the World Line Conditions and extending Dirac's formalism, are reviewed. Dirac's front form leads to a formulation of Fourier Optics for the Maxwell field, determining the actions of First Order Systems (corresponding to matrices of Sp(2,R) and Sp(4,R)) on polarization in a consistent manner. These groups also help characterize properties and propagation of partially coherent Gaussian Schell Model beams, leading to invariant quality parameters and the new Twist phase. The higher dimensional groups Sp(2n,R) appear in the theory of Wigner distributions and in quantum optics. Elegant criteria for a Gaussian phase space function to be a Wigner distribution, expressions for multimode uncertainty principles and squeezing are described. In geometric phase theory we highlight the use of invariance properties that lead to a kinematical formulation and the important role of Bargmann invariants. Special features of these phases arising from unitary Lie group representations, and a new formulation based on the idea of Null Phase Curves, are presented.

O laboratório analítico: a psicologia de C.G. Jung examinada pela teoria do ator-rede

O psiquiatra suíço Carl Gustav Jung (1875-1961) é um dos principais nomes da psicologia e da psicoterapia do século XX. Algumas de suas maiores contribuições teórico-metodológicas são as idéias de realidade psíquica, complexo, arquétipo (inconsciente coletivo), processo de individuação, método dialético, método construtivo e imaginação ativa. A psicologia analítica de Jung, ao longo de sua formação, foi influenciada por diversas disciplinas, dentre elas a etnologia (ciências sociais). Este trabalho buscou dar continuidade a este processo de construção epistêmica, mediante exame das concepções de Jung por intermédio da teoria do ator-rede (TAR), uma importante corrente da sociologia contemporânea. Pretendeu-se também saber se a psicologia analítica se mantém atual ou se já é uma teoria e prática clínica anacrônicas. O principal autor relacionado à TAR a quem se recorreu neste trabalho foi o sociólogo franc��s Bruno Latour. De sua perspectiva, o acordo moderno, disjuntor de Natureza e Cultura, é insuficiente para explicar a complicação inerente às entidades que compõem a realidade. Para escapar das armadilhas conceptuais da modernidade, Latour opera com constructos tais como coletivo (social), ator-rede, proposição, vínculo e plasma. Além do pensamento de Latour, este trabalho valeu-se das idéias sociológicas de Gabriel Tarde e da influenciologia etnopsicanalítica de Tobie Nathan, aproveitando-se da afinidade teórica que compartilham com Latour. Nathan, por desenvolver uma prática em psicoterapia, permitiu propor à psicologia clínica de Jung determinadas questões que o enfoque mais estritamente sociológico de Latour não possibilitava. Uma vez expostas as concepções de Latour, Tarde e Nathan, apresentaram-se os elementos da psicologia analítica com os quais se esperava que elas fossem compatíveis. Concluiu-se que, apesar das diferenças, muitas aproximações são plausíveis entre psicologia analítica e TAR. Constatou-se que a concepção de Jung de um psiquismo multifacetado, em devir, cujos componentes se relacionam de diferentes maneiras, é comparável à noção de ator-rede trabalhada por Latour e à monadologia de Tarde. Verificou-se também que a abordagem pragmática e construtiva identificada na psicoterapia junguiana é em muitos aspectos análoga à prática da etnopsicanálise. Assim, foi possível afirmar que a TAR e a psicologia analítica podem formar aliança.

Associação entre variantes do gene da adiponectina (ADIPOQ): -11391 G/A, -11377 C/G, 45T>G e I164T e os níveis circulantes de adiponectina de alto peso molecular e fatores de risco cardiometabólico

A adiponectina, um hormônio produzido pelo tecido adiposo, atua na regulação do metabolismo energ��tico e interfere favoravelmente na sensibilidade à insulina através de suas ações no fígado e musculatura esquelética. Ao contrário da maioria das outras adipocitocinas, associa-se inversamente com a obesidade visceral, resistência à insulina, diabetes tipo 2 e doença cardiovascular. Inúmeros estudos demonstraram nos últimos anos os efeitos de variantes genéticas no gene ADIPOQ sobre os níveis circulantes de adiponectina, resistência à insulina, diabetes e obesidade. Entretanto, além de resultados contraditórios, a maior parte desses estudos foi realizada em populações Caucasianas e Asiáticas. Avaliar, em uma população multiétnica adulta do munic��pio do Rio de Janeiro, as possíveis associações das variantes genéticas (-11391 G>A, -11377C>G, +45T>G e T517G) no gene ADIPOQ com o fenótipo obeso, níveis circulantes de adiponectina de alto peso molecular e fatores de risco cardiometabólico. Trata-se de um estudo transversal. Foram estudados 100 indivíduos eutróficos (IMC 18,5 24,9 kg/m2, idade: 32,5 + 9,8 anos) e 100 obesos (IMC 30 58,2 kg/m2, idade 37,5 + 14,1 anos), igualmente divididos entre homens e mulheres. Os indivíduos obesos apresentaram valores significativamente maiores de circunferência abdominal, pressão arterial sistólica, diastólica e média, glicemia de jejum, triglicerídeos, LDL-colesterol, leptina, insulina, HOMA-IR e proteína C reativa, quando comparados aos eutróficos. Contrariamente, exibiram menores valores de adiponectina e HDL-colesterol. Análises de correlação mostraram relação inversa e significativa entre a adiponectina, circunferência abdominal, insulina, HOMA-IR e pressão arterial. Com os níveis de HDL-colesterol, a correlação foi positiva. Por meio de análise de regressão múltipla foi possível identificar os determinantes dos níveis séricos de adiponecinta. Sexo masculino, circunferência abdominal, HOMA-IR e a variante genética -11391G>A, foram os principais responsáveis por essa variação, com um R2 de 30%. Quanto à análise genética, não encontramos nenhuma associação entre essas variantes e o fenótipo obeso. Entretanto, os indivíduos carreadores do alelo mutante -11391A apresentaram menores valores de glicemia, pressão arterial e relação cintura-quadril e maiores concentrações sanguíneas de adiponectina, quando comparados aos indivíduos ditos selvagens. Ademais, os carreadores do alelo mutante -11377G apresentaram menores valores de pressão arterial sistólica, diastólica e média. Os resultados do presente estudo demonstram que níveis de adiponectina diferem entre eutróficos e obesos e que concentrações mais baixas dessa adipocitocina estão associadas a um pior perfil cardiometabólico. Variantes no gene ADIPOQ podem interferir nessa relação e alguns polimorfismos parecem ter um perfil protetor no risco cardiovascular.

Mass breeding of silver carp in a cement cistern with crude H.C.G.

The paper presents a resume on experiments carried on mass breeding of the silver carp Hypophthalmichthys molitrix in a cement cistern through administration of crude human chorionic gonadotropin. The experiments proves that human chorionic gonadotropin (H.C.G.) can be used for mass breeding of the fish in simple enclosures, with facilities of some input and output of water and a dose of 5 mg/kg and 18 mg/kg of body weight, for males and females respectively are required for the purpose. Observations were made by using pituitary glands in similar way. For successful breeding of about 80 kg female together, the expenditure towards cost of pituitary gland and H.C.G. are respectively 275 and 117 Rs.

维生素C���步发酵新组合菌G.529及其应用

本文筛选一株苏芸金杆菌与氧化葡萄糖酸杆菌组成的新组合菌G. B529，并对其生物学性质进行研究，结果表明：新组合菌的摇瓶发酵转化率较原菌系提高4.83个百分点，发酵速度快，且具有耐受高浓度（10%）山梨糖的特性。为使G. B529的潜能得到最大程度的发挥，对其影响因素进行研究。首先应用均匀设计方法确立了G. B529的发酵培养基优化配比，在所实验的范围内，发酵转化率与玉米浆浓度成正相关性，尿素浓度 1．45%佩W/V)时，转化率达最大。其次种液各参数对发酵影响实验确立了判断种子质量高低的方法。结果显示种液中的大菌OD值一1.6 X小菌OD值可以作为种液的质量指数。最后对种子质量的影响实验显示适当提高玉米浆、葡萄糖等成分的浓度与降低尿素的浓度及调高pH值均有利于种液质量的改善。同时低接种量、大通气量和选择种龄为14小时均有助于种液质量指数的提高。 新组合菌系在选定的条件下枷3罐中4批发酵显示出很强的发酵能力，平均醇酸转化率较对照提高8.16个百分点，周期缩短10.6小时。其在300M3罐中生产试用行，连续26批次的平均醇酸转化率达87.40%,较生产用菌提高3.32个百分点。平均周期也缩短1．3小时。

C. G. Jung and literary theory: the challenge from fiction

C.G. Jung and Literary Theory remedies a significant omission in literary studies by doing for Jung and poststructuralist literary theories what has been done extensively for Freud, Lacan and post-Freudian psychoanalysis. This work represents a complete departure from traditional Jungian literary criticism. Instead, radically new Jungian literary theories are developed of deconstruction, feminist theory, gender and psyche, the body and sexuality, spirituality, postcolonialism, historicism and reader-response. As well as linking Jung to the work of Derrida, Kristeva and Irigaray, the book traces contentious occult, cultural and political narratives in Jung's career. ESO observations of the Nucleus of Rosetta Target 67P/C-G

Rosetta is ESA's new comet orbiter mission, launched in March 2004 and currently en route to Jupiter-family comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. The probe will rendezvous with the comet in 2014 and remain in orbit around the nucleus for on-going detailed physical and compositional analysis. Pre-encounter observations of the target are important for characterization of the heliocentric light-curve behaviour and the physical properties of the nucleus, information that is critical for mission planning. The nucleus was first characterized using HST observations in 2003 (Lamy et al. 2006) and observed directly in May 2005 by ground based telescopes (Lowry et al. 2006) when it was at 5.6 AU from the Sun. An extensive database of nucleus observations have since been acquired, not only from large ground-based telescopes like the ESO VLT (Tubiana et al. 2008 & 2011), but also from Spitzer (Kelley et al. 2006 & 2009; Lamy et al. 2008).
