An integration of undoped InOx and commercial ITO thin films into laboratory assembled light shutter devices is made. Accordingly, undoped transparent conductive InOx thin films, about 100 nm thick, are deposited by radiofrequency plasma enhanced reactive thermal evaporation (rf-PERTE) of indium teardrops with no intentional heating of the glass substrates. The process of deposition occurs at very low deposition rates (0.1-0.3 nm/s) to establish an optimized reaction between the oxygen plasma and the metal vapor. These films show the following main characteristics: transparency of 87% (wavelength, lambda = 632.8 nm) and sheet resistance of 52 Omega/sq; while on commercial ITO films the transparency was of 92% and sheet resistance of 83 Omega/sq. The InOx thin film surface characterized by AFM shows a uniform grain texture with a root mean square surface roughness of Rq similar to 2.276 nm. In contrast, commercial ITO topography is characterized by two regions: one smoother with Rq similar to 0.973 nm and one with big grains (Rq similar to 3.617 nm). For the shutters assembled using commercial ITO, the light transmission coefficient (Tr) reaches the highest value (Tr-max) of 89% and the lowest (Tr-min) of 1.3% [13], while for the InOx shutters these values are 80.1% and 3.2%, respectively. Regarding the electric field required to achieve 90% of the maximum transmission in the ON state (E-on), the one presented by the devices assembled with commercial ITO coated glasses is 2.41 V/mu m while the one presented by the devices assembled with InOx coated glasses is smaller, 1.77 V/mu m. These results corroborate the device quality that depends on the base materials and fabrication process used. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

The present work shows a contribution to the studies of development and solid sinterization of a metallic matrix composite MMC that has as starter materials 316L stainless steel atomized with water, and two different Tantalum Carbide TaC powders, with averages crystallite sizes of 13.78 nm and 40.66 nm. Aiming the metallic matrix s density and hardness increase was added different nanometric sizes of TaC by dispersion. The 316L stainless steel is an alloy largely used because it s high resistance to corrosion property. Although, its application is limited by the low wear resistance, consequence of its low hardness. Besides this, it shows low sinterability and it cannot be hardened by thermal treatments traditional methods because of the austenitic structure, face centered cubic, stabilized mainly in nickel presence. Steel samples added with TaC 3% wt (each sample with different type of carbide), following a mechanical milling route using conventional mill for 24 hours. Each one of the resulted samples, as well as the pure steel sample, were compacted at 700 MPa, room temperature, without any addictive, uniaxial tension, using a 5 mm diameter cylindrical mold, and quantity calculated to obtain compacted final average height of 5 mm. Subsequently, were sintered in vacuum atmosphere, temperature of 1290ºC, heating rate of 20ºC/min, using different soaking times of 30 and 60 min and cooled at room temperature. The sintered samples were submitted to density and micro-hardness analysis. The TaC reforced samples showed higher density values and an expressive hardness increase. The complementary analysis in optical microscope, scanning electronic microscope and X ray diffractometer, showed that the TaC, processed form, contributed with the hardness increase, by densification, itself hardness and grains growth control at the metallic matrix, segregating itself to the grain boarders

This masther dissertation presents a contribution to the study of 316L stainless steel sintering aiming to study their behavior in the milling process and the effect of isotherm temperature on the microstructure and mechanical properties. The 316L stainless steel is a widely used alloy for their high corrosion resistance property. However its application is limited by the low wear resistance consequence of its low hardness. In previous work we analyzed the effect of sintering additives as NbC and TaC. This study aims at deepening the understanding of sintering, analyzing the effect of grinding on particle size and microstructure and the effect of heating rate and soaking time on the sintered microstructure and on their microhardness. Were milled 316L powders with NbC at 1, 5 and 24 hours respectively. Particulates were characterized by SEM and . Cylindrical samples height and diameter of 5.0 mm were compacted at 700 MPa. The sintering conditions were: heating rate 5, 10 and 15◦C/min, temperature 1000, 1100, 1200, 1290 and 1300◦C, and soaking times of 30 and 60min. The cooling rate was maintained at 25◦C/min. All samples were sintered in a vacuum furnace. The sintered microstructure were characterized by optical and electron microscopy as well as density and microhardness. It was observed that the milling process has an influence on sintering, as well as temperature. The major effect was caused by firing temperature, followed by the grinding and heating rate. In this case, the highest rates correspond to higher sintering.

Metal-Ceramic (M/C) Zirconia-stainless steel interfaces have been processed through brazing techniques due to the excellent combination of properties such as high temperature stability, high corrosion resistance and good mechanical properties. However, some M/C interfaces show some defects, like porosity and cracks results in the degradation of the interfaces, leading even to its total rupture. Most of time, those defects are associated with an improper brazing parameters selection to the M/C system. In this work, ZrO2 Y-TZP and ZrO2 Mg - PSZ were joint with the stainless steel grade 304 by brazing using a eutectic silver-copper (Ag28Cu) interlayer alloy with different thermal cycles. Ceramic surfaces were previous mechanically metallized with titanium to improve adhesion of the system. The effect of temperature on the M/C interface was studied. SEM-EDS and 3 point flexural bend test were performed to evaluate morphology, chemical composition and mechanical resistance of the M/C interfaces. Lower thermal cycle temperatures produced better results of mechanical resistance, and more regular/ homogeneous reaction layers between braze alloy and metal-ceramic surfaces. In contemporary industrial, welding processes are widely used, this is the most important process of joining metals used industrially. The welding can be used to build simple structures, like doors and gates for instance, in the same way can be used in situations of high responsibility, such as the nuclear industry and oil industry. Dissimilar welding is a case of welded joints, is characterized by the junction between different materials, for this case, stainless steel and carbon steel that are widely used in steam lines, power plants, nuclear reactors, petrochemical plants. Because their different mechanical and corrosive properties, the join, stainless steel with carbon steel, not only meets environmental requirements and also reduces cost. By using penetrating liquid tests, macrograph, hardness and tensile test was compared the possibility of replacing the current use of 309 rods as filler metal in dissimilar welding between carbon steel and stainless steel by add-on material carbon steel essentially, in this case E7018 coated electrode was used, but without the coating. After analysis of the results and for comparison, was proposed with some certainty that it is possible to replace the addition of materials, thus leading economy in this process widely used in the modern industry

La presente investigación pretende exponer el conocimiento del arte, la necesidad de adentrase en el estudio del hierro (metal) en acero inoxidable (material), su rol en las innovaciones de las vanguardias artísticas, su posterior desarrollo en la industria y la tecnología, hasta conseguir que el acero entre en la dinámica del color, Inox-color. Para llevar a cabo este estudio teórico y de campo, se realizó el análisis “in situ”, además de las entrevistas a artistas, críticos de arte, galeristas, etc., así como la asistencia a centros de arte en Estados Unidos, Ecuador, España, Francia, Italia y Corea del Sur. Como resultado del estudio minucioso se pudo conocer que el acero inoxidable ha estado sujeto a la aleación con color desde el año 1972, lo que ha permitido la expresión en el arte, la arquitectura, el diseño y sus manifestaciones artísticas de vanguardia. Actualmente, la versatilidad del Inox-color es aprovechada en el Dimensionalismo, movimiento artístico que busca la redefinición del concepto de la dimensión a través del color. A mudança no mercado global do petróleo nos últimos anos, com o declínio das reservas de óleo leve, têm forçado a busca por novos campos petrolíferos em ambientes mais remotos, como nos campos localizados na camada pré-sal, e a exploração de óleos pesados que possuem elevado teor de ácidos naftênicos. Isso acarreta em grandes desafios para a previsão do desempenho de materiais frente às novas condições ambientais em que estão inseridos. No presente trabalho, o comportamento da corrosão do aço carbono AISI 1010 e do aço inoxidável AISI 316L foi estudado em soluções aquosas com elevado teor de cloreto e em solução de ácido naftênico ciclopentanóico a fim de ter melhor entendimento da ação dessas espécies no processo de corrosão e simular a corrosão pela água de produção na indústria petrolífera. Foram aplicadas as técnicas de potencial de circuito aberto, polarização potenciodinâmica, voltametria cíclica, espectroscopia de impedância eletroquímica, espectroscopia Raman, microscopia eletrônica de varredura e microscopia de força atômica, usadas, em cada caso, de acordo com a conveniência. O aumento da [Cl-] na faixa de 1,2–2,8 mol.L-1 não altera os processos catódicos e anódicos perto do Ecorr para os aços AISI 1010 e AISI 316L. Em condições de sobrepotenciais afastados do Ecorr, o aumento de [Cl-] aumenta os processos oxidativos de corrosão, o que é expresso pelas maiores densidades de corrente e carga anódica e aumento da perda de massa sofrida pelos eletrodos de ambos os aços. Portanto, os danos da corrosão são mais intensos quando se aumenta a [Cl-]. O aço AISI 1010 é ativo nas soluções de NaCl e a corrosão se propaga livremente de forma uniforme. Para o aço AISI 316L, uma ampla faixa de passividade pode ser vista nas soluções de NaCl; no Epit ocorre a ruptura do filme passivo e o crescimento de pites estáveis. Após 24 h de imersão em soluções de sulfato de sódio (branco) e de ácido naftênico ciclopentanóico ocorre crescimento de filme de óxido e as fases α-Fe2O3, Fe3O4 e δ-FeO(OH) foram identificadas nos espécimes de aço AISI 1010 e Fe3O4 foi identificado nos defeitos do filme prévio presente na superfície do aço AISI 316L. Os filmes formados em solução de ácido ciclopentanóico possuem menor resistência à polarização, maior rugosidade e maior taxa de corrosão quando comparado aos filmes crescidos na solução branco, para ambos os aços. A presença do ácido naftênico muda a forma como a reação de corrosão se procede e contribui para o aumento da corrosão. A corrosão naftênica foi mais pronunciada no aço carbono porque a presença dos elementos de liga no aço inox reduzem o número de sítios ativos ricos em Fe e tornam menos oportuna a ligação do Fe com o naftenato.

O comportamento da corrosão e inibição à corrosão dos aços carbono AISI 1010, inox AISI 316 e duplex UNS S31803 foi estudado em meio de solução de íons cloreto à 3,0% (m/v), na ausência e presença do benzimidazol e imidazol como inibidores. A caracterização química e morfológica dos aços foi realizada por meio das técnicas de espectrometria de emissão ótica, difração de raios X (DRX), microscopia ótica, microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV) e energia dispersiva de raios X (EDX). As análises eletroquímicas foram realizadas através das técnicas de polarização potenciodinâmica e espectroscopia de impedância eletroquímica. As análises de DRX e de metalografia mostraram as fases presentes em cada aço, sendo o aço AISI 1010 composto pela fase ferrita, o aço AISI 316 pelas fases de FeNi e Cr e o aço UNS S31803 pelas fases austenita e ferrita. Além disso, a metalografia e as análises de MEV e EDX permitiram identificar regiões e certos elementos presentes nos aços que propiciam à ocorrência da corrosão, tais como inclusões. Os inibidores foram testados em diferentes concentrações (25 ppm, 50 ppm, 100 ppm, 500 ppm e 1000 ppm) para os três aços, através das curvas de polarização e impedância eletroquímica, e verificou-se que para todas as concentrações houve aumento da resistência à corrosão dos aços. Pelas curvas de polarização verificou-se que o benzimidazol proporcionou aos aços AISI 1010, AISI 316 e UNS S31803, eficiências de inibição de cerca de 51%, 71% e 75%, respectivamente. Enquanto que o imidazol apresentou eficiência de cerca de 73%, 95% e 86%, respectivamente. Os resultados de impedância eletroquímica mostraram que as eficiências de inibição do benzimidazol foram de aproximadamente 52%, 73% e 71%, respectivamente, para os aços AISI 1010, AISI 316 e UNS S31803. E por sua vez, o imidazol apresentou eficiências de aproximadamente 96% para os aços AISI 1010 e AISI 316 e 85% para o aço UNS S31803. O teste de perda de massa mostrou que para o aço AISI 1010 tanto o benzimidazol quanto e o imidazol inibiram a corrosão, sendo que reduziram a corrosão em cerca de 17% e 24%, respectivamente. Nas análises das curvas de polarização em estudos com a água do mar observou-se que os inibidores foram menos eficientes do que em meio de solução de cloreto. O benzimidazol obteve eficiências de cerca de 14%, 50% e 33%, respectivamente, para os aços AISI 1010, AISI 316 e UNS S31803. Enquanto que o imidazol apresentou eficiências de aproximadamente 21%, 59% e 34%, respectivamente. Em todas as análises eletroquímicas e análise de perda de massa, o imidazol se mostrou o melhor inibidor para os aços estudados.

A traqueotomia está indicada em condições com obstrução respiratória alta ou doença pulmonar obstrutiva crônica. As Válvulas Fonatórias (VF) melhoram a comunicação, higienização e umidificação das vias aéreas dos pacientes traqueotomizados. OBJETIVO: Demonstrar a VF nacional, de menor custo, e sua utilização na reabilitação fonatória desses pacientes, avaliar resistência de abertura pelo diafragma, o que confere melhor conforto ao paciente. Forma de Estudo: Experimental, coorte contemporâneo. MATERIAL E MÉTODO: A VF foi utilizada em 32 pacientes. A válvula tem diafragma dentro de um corpo em aço inox com encaixes de plástico. Estudou-se grau de conforto respiratório de acordo com a resistência do diafragma da válvula, 40, 50 e 60 shores. RESULTADOS: Obteve-se uso regular da VF acoplada à cânula por todos os pacientes, 26 o fizeram por mais de 12h diárias e destes 14 por 24h diárias. A pressão do diafragma obtida foi de 40 shores para 13 pacientes e 50 shores para 19 pacientes, sem utilização de 60 shores. CONCLUSÃO: A VF metálica permite fonação, sem a oclusão digital da cânula, e respiração sob conforto. Obteve-se resistência padronizada do diafragma. Atualmente todos os pacientes do estudo utilizam estas VF com fonação e 43,75% período integral.

O pequi um fruto do Cerrado, de alto valor nutricional e potencial econômico. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a qualidade do pequi cozido após ter sido submetido a diferentes métodos de congelamento e tempos de armazenamento. Os frutos, oriundos de Bocaiúva, Norte de Minas Gerais, foram selecionados, lavados, sanificados, descascados, branqueados, resfriados, embalados em sacos de polietileno, selados a vácuo, em parcelas de 300g, submetidos ao congelamento por ar estático e por ar forado e armazenados em congelador (-18ºC ±2ºC) por seis meses. A cada dois meses (0, 2, 4 e 6 meses), os frutos foram analisados após cozimento, em água, por 20 minutos (300g . L-1), em panelas de aço inox. As seguintes análises foram realizadas: microscopia eletrônica de varredura, firmeza, umidade, cor (L*, h* e C*), carotenoides totais, β-caroteno e vitamina C. Houve diferença significativa entre os dois métodos de congelamento apenas para as variáveis vitamina C e β-caroteno. As demais variáveis sofreram influência apenas do fator tempo de armazenamento. Conclui-se que o pequi cozido após congelamento é influenciado mais pelo tempo de armazenamento do que pelo método de congelamento, sendo o congelamento eficiente para preservação da qualidade desse fruto.
