We study the peculiar dynamical features of a fractional derivative of complex-order network. The network is composed of two unidirectional rings of cells, coupled through a "buffer" cell. The network has a Z3 × Z5 cyclic symmetry group. The complex derivative Dα±jβ, with α, β ∈ R+ is a generalization of the concept of integer order derivative, where α = 1, β = 0. Each cell is modeled by the Chen oscillator. Numerical simulations of the coupled cell system associated with the network expose patterns such as equilibria, periodic orbits, relaxation oscillations, quasiperiodic motion, and chaos, in one or in two rings of cells. In addition, fixing β = 0.8, we perceive differences in the qualitative behavior of the system, as the parameter c ∈ [13, 24] of the Chen oscillator and/or the real part of the fractional derivative, α ∈ {0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, 0.9, 1.0}, are varied. Some patterns produced by the coupled system are constrained by the network architecture, but other features are only understood in the light of the internal dynamics of each cell, in this case, the Chen oscillator. What is more important, architecture and/or internal dynamics?

Objective This study analyzed the internal functioning, organization and political participation of the local food and nutrition security council and possible implications of their participation on the creation of a municipal food and nutrition security policy in the city of Sao Paulo. Methods This qualitative study was done in three stages: document analysis; observation of meetings and semi-structured interviews with board members considered key informants. The axis of analysis was the political participation of the council, considering its internal aspects, like board members, operating dynamics of political participation of its members and the relationship between these topics and the council's actions for the definition and creation of a food and nutrition security policy. Results The intellectual profile of the board members does not represent the majority of the population, thereby facilitating the omission of actual issues in council discussions. Its strict internal dynamics and the asymmetry of its members generally prevent the active participation of board members and, specifically, discussions about a food and nutrition security policy. The so-called "militant members" have a differentiated, more aggressive participation, with greater mastery of the subject and its topics. Conclusion The board member profiles, internal organization of the council, complexity of the subject and its low insertion in the society distance the council from social needs and lead them to act incipiently with regard to the municipal policies of food and nutrition security.

Current understanding of the Iron Age polity of Phrygia in Central Anatolia is primarily based on excavations and survey in the region of the Phrygian capital of Gordion. In order to expand our knowledge of the Phrygian polity, we assess the scale and nature of Iron Age communities in the western (EskiAYehir) region of Phrygia. We address the challenge of interpreting ceramics derived from large-scale archaeological survey by utilizing Neutron Activation Analysis (NAA) of ceramics from 12 sites across the region collected by the EskiAYehir archaeological survey project as well as an excavated assemblage from Aar Hoyuk. While the uniformity in ceramic technology and styles suggest the region is part of the larger Phrygian community, NAA results reveal that (a) ceramic production was regionally highly localized with limited evidence of standardization during the Iron Age and (b) based on evidence of community interaction it is possible to establish a partial chronological sequence of development. These results have implications not only for understanding the internal dynamics within the Phrygian core but also for developing a methodology for comparing ancient polities using commensurate units of interacting communities. Contrasting strands of explanation of the motives underlying collective action, as either culturally determined, as an attempt at compensation, point towards an understanding of identity politics as a reaction to given conditions. They pay little attention to the social dynamics that evolve in relation to the conflict within a group, and the possible motivation that can ensue from these. This article analyses the mobilisation among Hindu-nationalist organisations. Rather than seeking their attraction in their discursive outputs and the possible answers they might give in times of change, the contention is that they are to be sought in the specific internal dynamics and the possibilities they create within their historical context. These specific opportunities for action are inherent firstly in the mode of operation relying on participation and involvement, on their direct intervention, their localness and accessibility. Moreover, the dichotomisation inherent in violence makes possible the integration of different interests and different discontents under one banner and therefore contributes to the project of unification undertaken by Hindu-nationalism.

We study phenomenological scaling theories of the polymer dynamics in random media, employing the existing scaling theories of polymer chains and the percolation statistics. We investigate both the Rouse and the Zimm model for Brownian dynamics and estimate the diffusion constant of the center-of-mass of the chain in such disordered media. For internal dynamics of the chain, we estimate the dynamic exponents. We propose similar scaling theory for the reptation dynamics of the chain in the framework of Flory theory for the disordered medium. The modifications in the case of correlated disorders are also discussed. .

This thesis focuses on the dynamics of underactuated cable-driven parallel robots (UACDPRs), including various aspects of robotic theory and practice, such as workspace computation, parameter identification, and trajectory planning. After a brief introduction to CDPRs, UACDPR kinematic and dynamic models are analyzed, under the relevant assumption of inextensible cables. The free oscillatory motion of the end-effector (EE), which is a unique feature of underactuated mechanisms, is studied in detail, from both a kinematic and a dynamic perspective. The free (small) oscillations of the EE around equilibria are proved to be harmonic and the corresponding natural oscillation frequencies are analytically computed. UACDPR workspace computation and analysis are then performed. A new performance index is proposed for the analysis of the influence of actuator errors on cable tensions around equilibrium configurations, and a new type of workspace, called tension-error-insensitive, is defined as the set of poses that a UACDPR EE can statically attain even in presence of actuation errors, while preserving tensions between assigned (positive) bounds. EE free oscillations are then employed to conceive a novel procedure aimed at identifying the EE inertial parameters. This approach does not require the use of force or torque measurements. Moreover, a self-calibration procedure for the experimental determination of UACDPR initial cable lengths is developed, which consequently enables the robot to automatically infer the EE initial pose at machine start-up. Lastly, trajectory planning of UACDPRs is investigated. Two alternative methods are proposed, which aim at (i) reducing EE oscillations even when model parameters are uncertain or (ii) eliminate EE oscillations in case model parameters are perfectly known. EE oscillations are reduced in real-time by dynamically scaling a nominal trajectory and filtering it with an input shaper, whereas they can be eliminated if an off-line trajectory is computed that accounts for the system internal dynamics.

The internal dynamics of elliptical galaxies in clusters depends on many factors, including the environment in which the galaxy is located. In addition to the strong encounters with the other galaxies, we can also consider the gravitational interaction with the ubiquitous Cluster Tidal Field (CTF). As recognized in many studies, one possible way in which CTF affects the dynamics of galaxies inside the cluster is related to the fact that they may start oscillating as “rigid bodies” around their equilibrium positions in the field, with the periods of these oscillations curiously similar to those of stellar orbits in the outer parts of galaxies. Resonances between the two motions are hence expected and this phenomenon could significantly contribute to the formation of the Intracluster Stellar Population (ISP), whose presence is abundantly confirmed by observations. In this thesis work, we propose to study the motion of an elliptical galaxy, modelled as a rigid body, in the CTF, especially when its center of mass traces a quasi-circular orbit in the cluster gravitational potential. This case extends and generalizes the previous models and findings, proceeding towards a much more realistic description of galaxy motion. In addition to this, the presence of a further oscillation, namely that of the entire galaxy along its orbit, will possibly increase the probability of having resonances and, consequently, the rate of ISP production nearly to observed values. Thus, after reviewing the dynamics of a rigid body in a generic force field, we will assess some physically relevant studies and report their main results, discussing their implications with respect to our problem. We will conclude our discussion focusing on the more realistic scenario of an elliptical galaxy whose center of mass moves on a quasi-circular orbit in a spherically symmetric potential. The derivation of the fundamental equations of motion will serve as the basis for future modelling and discussions.

Context. The Abell 222 and 223 clusters are located at an average redshift z similar to 0.21 and are separated by 0.26 deg. Signatures of mergers have been previously found in these clusters, both in X-rays and at optical wavelengths, thus motivating our study. In X-rays, they are relatively bright, and Abell 223 shows a double structure. A filament has also been detected between the clusters both at optical and X-ray wavelengths. Aims. We analyse the optical properties of these two clusters based on deep imaging in two bands, derive their galaxy luminosity functions (GLFs) and correlate these properties with X-ray characteristics derived from XMM-Newton data. Methods. The optical part of our study is based on archive images obtained with the CFHT Megaprime/Megacam camera, covering a total region of about 1 deg(2), or 12.3 x 12.3 Mpc(2) at a redshift of 0.21. The X-ray analysis is based on archive XMM-Newton images. Results. The GLFs of Abell 222 in the g' and r' bands are well fit by a Schechter function; the GLF is steeper in r' than in g'. For Abell 223, the GLFs in both bands require a second component at bright magnitudes, added to a Schechter function; they are similar in both bands. The Serna & Gerbal method allows to separate well the two clusters. No obvious filamentary structures are detected at very large scales around the clusters, but a third cluster at the same redshift, Abell 209, is located at a projected distance of 19.2 Mpc. X-ray temperature and metallicity maps reveal that the temperature and metallicity of the X-ray gas are quite homogeneous in Abell 222, while they are very perturbed in Abell 223. Conclusions. The Abell 222/Abell 223 system is complex. The two clusters that form this structure present very different dynamical states. Abell 222 is a smaller, less massive and almost isothermal cluster. On the other hand, Abell 223 is more massive and has most probably been crossed by a subcluster on its way to the northeast. As a consequence, the temperature distribution is very inhomogeneous. Signs of recent interactions are also detected in the optical data where this cluster shows a ""perturbed"" GLF. In summary, the multiwavelength analyses of Abell 222 and Abell 223 are used to investigate the connection between the ICM and the cluster galaxy properties in an interacting system.

We investigate the internal dynamics of two cellular automaton models with heterogeneous strength fields and differing nearest neighbour laws. One model is a crack-like automaton, transferring ail stress from a rupture zone to the surroundings. The other automaton is a partial stress drop automaton, transferring only a fraction of the stress within a rupture zone to the surroundings. To study evolution of stress, the mean spectral density. f(k(r)) of a stress deficit held is: examined prior to, and immediately following ruptures in both models. Both models display a power-law relationship between f(k(r)) and spatial wavenumber (k(r)) of the form f(k(r)) similar tok(r)(-beta). In the crack model, the evolution of stress deficit is consistent with cyclic approach to, and retreat from a critical state in which large events occur. The approach to criticality is driven by tectonic loading. Short-range stress transfer in the model does not affect the approach to criticality of broad regions in the model. The evolution of stress deficit in the partial stress drop model is consistent with small fluctuations about a mean state of high stress, behaviour indicative of a self-organised critical system. Despite statistics similar to natural earthquakes these simplified models lack a physical basis. physically motivated models of earthquakes also display dynamical complexity similar to that of a critical point system. Studies of dynamical complexity in physical models of earthquakes may lead to advancement towards a physical theory for earthquakes.

Diante do colapso financeiro de 2008, este trabalho retoma a teoria econômica proposta por Hyman P. Minsky com o objetivo de esclarecer as circunstâncias que propiciaram uma crise financeira tão profunda. A estrutura analítica de Minsky é marcada pela Hipótese da Instabilidade Financeira, a qual aponta para fatores endógenos ao próprio sistema capitalista como o principal causador de instabilidades financeiras. Este processo, caracterizado principalmente por um avanço desfavorável no nível de endividamento dos agentes, constrói um ciclo de estágios que pode se desenvolver para uma crise financeira ou um colapso sistêmico, definidos como “Momento Minsky” e “Colapso Minsky”. Este cenário descrito por Minsky, também analisado à luz de teorias mais recentes como as de Gary A. Dymski e Alessandro Vercelli, é conhecido por “ciclo minskyano”. Ao adotar estes preceitos da análise teórica de Minsky, é possível visualizar como o processo de desregulamentação e fragilização financeira dos Estados Unidos nas décadas de 1980 e 1990 proveram condições para a crise do subprime e, posteriormente, o colapso financeiro de 2008. De maneira similar, é possível observar que a análise teórica de Minsky também é aplicável à crise que afeta a economia brasileira no final de 2008. A fragilização financeira que se inicia no Brasil poucos anos antes da crise, acentuada no setor exportador de commodities, cria a condição para o “momento Minsky brasileiro”, demonstrando que apesar das falhas da análise teórica de Minsky, que supõe uma economia fechada com características da economia estadunidense, é possível visualizar uma relação de causa e efeito da recente crise financeira com a teoria minskyana.

Neste trabalho estuda-se a geração de trajectórias em tempo real de um robô quadrúpede. As trajectórias podem dividir-se em duas componentes: rítmica e discreta. A componente rítmica das trajectórias é modelada por uma rede de oito osciladores acoplados, com simetria 4 2 Z Z . Cada oscilador é modelado matematicamente por um sistema de Equações Diferenciais Ordinárias. A referida rede foi proposta por Golubitsky, Stewart, Buono e Collins (1999, 2000), para gerar os passos locomotores de animais quadrúpedes. O trabalho constitui a primeira aplicação desta rede à geração de trajectórias de robôs quadrúpedes. A derivação deste modelo baseia-se na biologia, onde se crê que Geradores Centrais de Padrões de locomoção (CPGs), constituídos por redes neuronais, geram os ritmos associados aos passos locomotores dos animais. O modelo proposto gera soluções periódicas identificadas com os padrões locomotores quadrúpedes, como o andar, o saltar, o galopar, entre outros. A componente discreta das trajectórias dos robôs usa-se para ajustar a parte rítmica das trajectórias. Este tipo de abordagem é útil no controlo da locomoção em terrenos irregulares, em locomoção guiada (por exemplo, mover as pernas enquanto desempenha tarefas discretas para colocar as pernas em localizações específicas) e em percussão. Simulou-se numericamente o modelo de CPG usando o oscilador de Hopf para modelar a parte rítmica do movimento e um modelo inspirado no modelo VITE para modelar a parte discreta do movimento. Variou-se o parâmetro g e mediram-se a amplitude e a frequência das soluções periódicas identificadas com o passo locomotor quadrúpede Trot, para variação deste parâmetro. A parte discreta foi inserida na parte rítmica de duas formas distintas: (a) como um offset, (b) somada às equações que geram a parte rítmica. Os resultados obtidos para o caso (a), revelam que a amplitude e a frequência se mantêm constantes em função de g. Os resultados obtidos para o caso (b) revelam que a amplitude e a frequência aumentam até um determinado valor de g e depois diminuem à medida que o g aumenta, numa curva quase sinusoidal. A variação da amplitude das soluções periódicas traduz-se numa variação directamente proporcional na extensão do movimento do robô. A velocidade da locomoção do robô varia com a frequência das soluções periódicas, que são identificadas com passos locomotores quadrúpedes.

A geração de trajectórias de robôs em tempo real é uma tarefa muito complexa, não
existindo ainda um algoritmo que a permita resolver de forma eficaz. De facto, há
controladores eficientes para trajectórias previamente definidas, todavia, a adaptação a
variações imprevisíveis, como sendo terrenos irregulares ou obstáculos, constitui ainda um
problema em aberto na geração de trajectórias em tempo real de robôs.
Neste trabalho apresentam-se modelos de geradores centrais de padrões de locomoção
(CPGs), inspirados na biologia, que geram os ritmos locomotores num robô quadrúpede.
Os CPGs são modelados matematicamente por sistemas acoplados de células (ou
neurónios), sendo a dinâmica de cada célula dada por um sistema de equações diferenciais
ordinárias não lineares. Assume-se que as trajectórias dos robôs são constituídas por esta
parte rítmica e por uma parte discreta. A parte discreta pode ser embebida na parte rítmica,
(a.1) como um offset ou (a.2) adicionada às expressões rítmicas, ou (b) pode ser calculada
independentemente e adicionada exactamente antes do envio dos sinais para as articulações
do robô. A parte discreta permite inserir no passo locomotor uma perturbação, que poderá
estar associada à locomoção em terrenos irregulares ou à existência de obstáculos na
trajectória do robô. Para se proceder á análise do sistema com parte discreta, será variado o
parâmetro g. O parâmetro g, presente nas equações da parte discreta, representa o offset do
sinal após a inclusão da parte discreta.
Revê-se a teoria de bifurcação e simetria que permite a classificação das soluções
periódicas produzidas pelos modelos de CPGs com passos locomotores quadrúpedes. Nas
simulações numéricas, usam-se as equações de Morris-Lecar e o oscilador de Hopf como
modelos da dinâmica interna de cada célula para a parte rítmica. A parte discreta é
modelada por um sistema inspirado no modelo VITE. Medem-se a amplitude e a
frequência de dois passos locomotores para variação do parâmetro g, no intervalo [-5;5].
Consideram-se duas formas distintas de incluir a parte discreta na parte rítmica: (a) como
um (a.1) offset ou (a.2) somada nas expressões que modelam a parte rítmica, e (b) somada
ao sinal da parte rítmica antes de ser enviado às articulações do robô. No caso (a.1),
considerando o oscilador de Hopf como dinâmica interna das células, verifica-se que a amplitude e frequência se mantêm constantes para -5

Objective To analyze the practices of primary care focused on the harmful consumption of drugs. Method This is a qualitative study, developed with a dialectical-critical approach. Data collection was carried out through semi-structured interviews with 10 employees of a basic health unit (UBS). Results The demands are not accepted, and if they go beyond the barriers shaped by the historical absence of health care practices for drug users and moralistic and preconceived ideologies, they are not reinterpreted as health needs; practices that meet these demands and go beyond the barriers are poor; the functionalist approach, which explains drug use as a disease and considers drug users as deviants, supports the few existing practices. Conclusion primary health care is mistakenly focused on addiction; it lacks structural elements of the production process in health and internal dynamics of the working processes that would foster the development of collective practices.

Settling particles were collected using sediment traps deployed along three transects in the Lacaze-Duthiers and Cap de Creus canyons and the adjacent southern open slope from October 2005 to October 2006. The settling material was analyzed to obtain total mass fluxes and main constituent contents (organic matter, opal, calcium carbonate, and siliciclastics). Cascades of dense shelf water from the continental shelf edge to the lower continental slope occurred from January to March 2006. They were traced through strong negative near-bottom temperature anomalies and increased current speeds, and generated two intense pulses of mass fluxes in January and March 2006. This oceanographic phenomenon appeared as the major physical forcing of settling particles at almost all stations, and caused both high seasonal variability in mass fluxes and important qualitative changes in settling material. Fluxes during the dense shelf water cascading (DSWC) event ranged from 90.1 g m(-2) d(-1) at the middle Cap de Creus canyon (1000 m) to 3.2 g m(-2) d(-1) at the canyon mouth (1900 m). Fractions of organic matter, opal and calcium carbonate components increased seaward, thus diminishing the siliciclastic fraction. Temporal variability of the major components was larger in the canyon mouth and open slope sites, due to the mixed impact of dense shelf water cascading processes and the pelagic biological production. Results indicate that the cascading event remobilized and homogenized large amounts of material down canyon and southwardly along the continental slope contributing to a better understanding of the off-shelf particle transport and the internal dynamics of DSWC events.
