Sentimientos negativos y dominación social : un abordaje crítico de la teoría del reconocimiento de Axel Honneth

El tema general de mi artículo refiere a lo que Axel Honneth denomina “sentimientos negativos" o de “agravio moral". Mi interés es dilucidar cómo estos sentimientos motivan diferentes tipos de reacción grupal: de resistencia, de conformidad, de vergüenza social. Asimismo, buscaré precisar si para Honneth puede afirmarse que exista una manipulación de los sentimientos negativos que propicie la consolidación de las prácticas de dominación. Si así fuera, el autor estaría revisando algunas reflexiones que hiciera en su libro Crítica del poder y que apuntaban en dirección a una nueva comprensión del dominio social.

De la methexis a la alienación : o el reverso de la libertad

El artículo realiza una aproximación a la problemática de un “lugar" filosófico de la libertad y de su génesis. A partir de allí se realiza un recorrido por cuatro autores (Hegel, Marx, Lukács, Honneth) donde se presenta la relación entre libertad y alienación. Este análisis se centra en tres tipos de relación donde se manifiesta el fenómeno de la libertad: relación de sí-consigo, con los otros y con el mundo.

Communication, recognition and social work: Aligning the ethical theories of Habermas and Honneth

The modern world is replete with ethical challenges of Orwellian proportions. The violation of human rights and misrecognition of identities are two of the most pressing examples. In this paper, the ethical theories of Habermas and Honneth are aligned as a way of addressing these specific challenges within social work. It is suggested that these theories are complementary, mutually rectifying and concordant at the meta-ethical level of analysis. The alignment is also justified, pargmatically, through the construction of three hypothetical vignettes demonstrating different kinds of practice dilemmas. The need for egalitarian communication and the imperative to recognise human identity in all its dimensions subsequently emerge as the two foundation stones for ethical deliberation in social work.

'When I Look I am Seen, So I Exist to Change': Supplementing Honneth's Recognition Model for Social Work

The subject of identity continues to attract widespread interest and debate in the social sciences. The nature of who we are, our potential to be different, and our similarity with others, underpins many present-day social issues. This paper contributes to this debate by examining critically the work of Axel Honneth on optimal identity-formation. Although broadly supporting Honneth’s chief construct of inter-personal recognition, a gap in his thinking is highlighted and addressed through proffering a fourth dimension to his tripartite model. This additional dimension requires demonstrations of recognition that instil hope in the face of hardship and empower positive transformations in identity. The implications of this reworked model for social work are then considered in terms of a range of approaches that can be utilised to build flourishing identities characterised by self-esteem, self-confidence, self-respect and self-belief.
