Half-title reads: Tome 1er, première partie; and the "avertissement": Cet ouvrage ... sera divisé en quatre volumes qui paraîtront successivement. Apparently the proposed volumes were never issued and the subject matter of the first was incorporated in vol.I of his Musée des monumens français, published during the years 1800-1821.

The glasses of the rosette forming the main window of the transept of the Gothic Cathedral of Tarragona have been characterised by means of SEM/EDS, XRD, FTIR and electronic microprobe. The multivariate statistical treatment of these data allow to establish a classification of the samples forming groups having an historical significance and reflecting ancient restorations. Furthermore, the decay patterns and mechanisms have been determined and the weathering by-products characterised. It has been demonstrated a clear influence of the bioactivity in the decay of these glasses, which activity is partially controlled by the chemical composition of the glasses.

We investigated the decayed historical church window glasses of two Catalonian churches, both under Mediterranean climate. Glass surfaces were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Their chemical composition was determined by avelength-dispersive spectrometry (WDS) microprobe analysis. The biodiversity was investigated by molecular methods: DNA extraction from glass, amplification by PCR targeting the16S rRNA and ITS regions, and fingerprint analyses by denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE). Clone libraries containing either PCR fragments of the bacterial 16S rDNA or the fungal ITS regions were screened by DGGE. Clone inserts were sequenced and compared with the EMBL database.

"The purpose of t his thesis is to present a history of stained glass used in the De.nver area in tbe past hundred years. It has been necessary to present a sufficient background on t he history of the art since its heritage in the twelfth century so that t he evolution can be properly understood. Differ.ent movements, first in Europe and later in America and Europe, have influenced the art and brought it to its present state in t he Denver area"

The last section, p. [95]-138, is entitled: "A letter to the right honorable the Earl of Morton, president of the Royal Society, containing experiments and observations on the agreement between the specific gravities of the several metals, and their colours when united to glass, as well as those of their other preparations. With additions. By Edward Delaval, F. R. S. Read at the Royal Society, Jan. 24, 1765."
