Os Hospitais, equipamentos de interesse público, são edifícios cujos desempenho e disponibilidade das suas instalações e equipamentos podem comprometer a prestação de cuidados de saúde, pelo que nestes estabelecimentos, a Manutenção Preventiva assume um papel relevante. Nesse sentido, pretendeu-se nesta dissertação definir uma estratégia específica que permita efectuar o planeamento da manutenção preventiva de um edifício hospitalar, enquanto infraestrutura para desenvolvimento da actividade clínica. Para tal, foi efectuada uma pesquisa bibliográfica, com a qual se identificaram conceitos de manutenção e requisitos a serem tidos em conta na manutenção de edifícios hospitalares. Foi efectuada uma caracterização genérica do objecto de manutenção, limitada no âmbito desta dissertação às principais componentes dos sistemas de construção e das instalações de águas e esgotos, que podem integrar um edifício hospitalar actual, atendendo às especificações e recomendações técnicas vigentes para este tipo de edifícios. Foram identificados os objectivos e requisitos de manutenção nestes edifícios, estabelecidos pelas condições de funcionamento pretendidas, pelos critérios de durabilidade exigidos pelo Dono de Obra, pelo nível de desempenho funcional requerido para as suas componentes e pelo grau de operacionalidade imposto nas suas diferentes unidades funcionais. Tendo em consideração que a criticidade de uma componente não depende só do contexto operacional da área funcional em se insere mas também das consequências que o seu estado de funcionamento pode acarretar para a unidade funcional. Foi exemplificada a análise dos modos de falha, sua criticidade e seus efeitos para hierarquização do risco associado nas componentes estudadas. As fichas exemplificativas dos planos de manutenção preventiva, que se apresentam no âmbito desta dissertação para algumas componentes básicas, integram acções e procedimentos que derivam de uma análise aos seus modos de falha e seus efeitos, bem como de recomendações técnicas exigências da regulamentação em vigor.

O trabalho presente nesta dissertação incidiu sobre a aplicação das metodologias Lean no âmbito da manutenção de uma empresa metalomecânica de produção de Moldes – Simoldes Aços. No atual enquadramento, com os mercados nacionais e internacionais debaixo de feroz competição, as empresas são obrigadas a estudar métodos e técnicas que permitam eliminar desperdícios, reduzir custos e tempos de produção, ao mesmo tempo que são exigidos maiores níveis de qualidade dos produtos fabricados com vista ao aumento da competitividade. Sendo a Manutenção uma área funcional com um impacto elevado no desempenho da produção, é percebido que o desempenho desta, tem influência direta no comportamento do fluxo produtivo e nos respetivos níveis de eficácia e eficiência. No decorrer do trabalho desta dissertação de mestrado foi realizada uma análise abrangente do estado atual do sector de atividade de manutenção na empresa SIMOLDES SA, o que permitiu identificar as áreas e os pontos a intervir e desenhar as soluções de melhoria na atividade de manutenção. Na fase concludente do trabalho foram implementadas algumas dessas propostas de melhoria, ao passo que outras ficaram agendadas para futura implementação. Na base do trabalho desenvolvido esteve a metodologia Lean, que apresenta um papel relevante na implementação de uma abordagem integrada da função manutenção na manutenção dos objetivos da produção. O presente projeto baseou a sua estratégia de implementação na aplicação da ferramenta do 5S’ em paralelo com o TPM (Total Productive Maintenance). Ambas as ferramentas visam a redução de desperdícios e o aumento da fiabilidade dos processos, pelo aumento da disponibilidade dos equipamentos, da melhoria do desempenho dos processos e da plena integração de todos os colaboradores no processo de fabrico. Com a implementação das melhorias propostas, foram observados melhorias significativas no fluxo das atividades da manutenção, assim como uma maior visibilidade das mesmas em todo o processo produtivo.

Nowadays cities are facing several environmental problems due to the population migration to urban areas, which is causing urban sprawl. This way, it is very important to define solutions to improve Land Use Efficiency (LUE). This article proposes the use of community buildings features as a solution to increase land use efficiency. Community buildings consider the design of shared building spaces to reduce the floor area of buildings. This work tests the performance of some case-study buildings regarding LUE to analyse its possible pros and cons. A quantifiable method is used to assess buildingsâ LUE, which considers the number of occupants, the gross floor area, the functional area, the implantation area and the allotment area. Buildings with higher values for this index have reduced environmental impacts because they use less construction materials, produce less construction and demolition wastes and require less energy for building operation. The results showed that the use of community building features can increase Land Use Efficiency of buildings.

OBJECTIVES: The study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of off-pump transapical mitral valve-in-ring implantation and to test the performance of a custom-made self-expandable stent valve, in comparison with the standard SAPIEN valve. METHODS: Acute experiments were performed in five pigs. Animals (mean weight 58.4 ± 7.3 kg) underwent mitral valve annuloplasties under cardiopulmonary bypass using 26-mm rings (SJM?). Then, a 30-mm custom-made self-expandable stent valve or a 23-mm balloon-expandable transcatheter heart valve (Edwards SAPIEN XT?) was deployed within the annuloplasty rings through a transatrial access and under direct vision. Subsequently, the stent valves were inserted transapically under fluoroscopic guidance and off pump. RESULTS: The procedural success of transatrial and transapical mitral valve-in-ring procedures was 100% (10 of 10). Mean transatrial and transapical procedure time was 2.0 ± 1.1 and 22.0 ± 5.7 min, respectively. Haemodynamic status during transapical implantation remained stable, and differences in data collected before and after the stent-valve deployment were not statistically significant. Mean mitral annulus diameter and mean mitral orifice area in the group of self-expandable stent valves were 2.60 ± 0.02 cm and 4.16 ± 0.48 cm(2), respectively, whereas in the SAPIEN group they were 1.95 ± 0.18 cm and 2.26 ± 0.20 cm(2), respectively. Trace or mild regurgitation was detected only in the self-expandable stent-valve group. Mean gradients were 4.1 ± 4.5 mmHg across the self-expandable stent valves and 1.0 ± 0 mmHg across the SAPIEN valves. Postmortem examination confirmed adequate positioning of the self-expandable valves and the SAPIEN valves within the annuloplasty ring. CONCLUSIONS: Off-pump transapical mitral valve-in-ring implantation is safe and feasible. Transapical access may represent the ideal option for valve-in-ring procedures in cases of recurrent mitral regurgitation after mitral valve repair, in high-risk patients. Owing to the supra-annular profile of the valve components, our custom-made nitinol stent valve provides nearer to normal functional area than the SAPIEN valve.

Työssä tutkittiin uuden ShortFlowÔ-konseptin eri osa-alueiden toimivuutta paperikoneen lyhytkierrossa. Prosessin sekoituspumppuna perinteinen keskipakopumppu korvataan potkuri-pumpulla, joten työssä selvitettiin uudentyyppisen pumpun kavitointirajat, säädettävyys ja sen soveltuminen suunniteltuun tehtävään ja toiminta-alueeseen. Prosessiin kuuluu myös uudentyyppinen viirakaivo, josta selvitettiin sen kyky poistaa ilmaa ja virtauskäyttäytyminen kaivossa. Hienopaperikoneen osalta kartoitettiin prosessiin liittyviä riskejä ja ShortFlowÔ-lyhytkiertoprosessin kannattavuutta investointina. Työn kirjallisessa osassa on käsitelty lyhytkiertoa eri osa-alueittain. Aluksi on lyhytkierron yleisempi tarkastelu, jossa on selvitetty lajittelua, ilmanpoistoa ja pumppauksia. Erityisempää huomiota on kiinnitetty ShortFlowÔ-lyhytkiertoprosessiin liittyviin erityispiirteisiin joita ovat sakeamassalajittelu, täyteaineet paperitehtaalla, hylky ja virtausten sekoittuminen. Sekoituspumpun osalta on käsitelty myös kavitointia hieman tarkemmin. Työn kokeellisessa osassa suunniteltiin prosessin koelaitteisto, joka myös koeajettiin. Potkuripumpun koeajossa määritettiin potkuripumpun toiminta-alue ja säädettävyys. Pumpun todettiin sekoittavan ja ilman vaikutus potkuripumpun ominaisuuksiin todettiin merkityksettömäksi pumpun toiminta-alueella. Viirakaivon koeajossa selvisi, että viirakaivo poistaa ilmaa suunnittelualueella ja kaivolle löytyi muoto, jossa virtauskäyttäytyminen viirakaivossa eri laskeutumisnopeuksilla on mahdollisimman häiriötöntä. Hienopaperikoneen osalta riskien kartoituksessa selvisi, ettei täyteaine aiheuta ongelmia ja että päällystelaattaa sisältävä hylky on lajiteltava ennen lyhytkiertoa. ShortFlowÔ-lyhytkiertoprosessi oli edullisin sekä käyttö- että investointikustannuksiltaan.

Työn tavoitteena on määritellä Etelä-Karjalan Jätehuolto Oy:n toiminta-alueella asumisessa syntyvän jätehuollon palvelutaso muuttunutta jätelainsäädäntöä sekä yhtiön hoidettavaksi siirrettäviä palvelutehtäviä vastaavaksi. Tavoitteena on myös valmistella kunnalliset jätehuoltomääräykset, joilla muutokset pannaan täytäntöön jätehuollon kuljetuksen, keräyksen ja käsittelyn sekä hyötykäyttöön toimittamisen osalta. Tavoitteena on laatia esitys palveluun perustuvasta taksamallista koko toiminta-alueelle. Työn alkuosassa tutustutaan jätelainsäädännön kehittymiseen EU:ssa ja Suomessa sekä valmistelussa oleviin muutoksiin, joilla on vaikutusta jätehuollon suunnittelun ja toteuttamisen kannalta. Tutkitaan miten jätehuoltopalvelut omistajakunnissa on toteutettu ja mitä muutoksia jätelain 10 § ja 13 §:n muutos edellyttää nykyiseen järjestelmään. Työn tuloksena valmistuu maakuntaan asumisen jätehuollon vähimmäispalvelutasoesitys sekä ehdotukset sen kehittämisestä ja kustannusten keräämisestä aiheuttamisperiaatteen mukaisesti alueen yhtenäisillä jätetaksoilla. Jätehuoltomääräysehdotukseen sisällytetään jätehuoltoa koskevat tekniset ja laadulliset vaatimukset sekä keinot, joilla kunnan vastuulla olevia jätteitä saadaan ohjattua hyötykäyttöön.

El plan exportador represento para Laboratorios ESKO una oportunidad de capacitación, orientación y acompañamiento profesional en el acercamiento a mercados internacionales, con expertos en todas las áreas funcionales. De acuerdo con la metodología y el plan de trabajo propuesto por el CIDEM, se desarrollaron cinco etapas, todas estas con miras a potenciar la capacidad de exportación sostenible de la compañía. Un paso preliminar al proceso, fue el análisis del portafolio de productos de la empresa y la identificación del producto más competitivo y adecuado para la exportación, con el fin de trabajar en torno a este producto para las diferentes fases del proceso. Para esta ocasión el producto seleccionado fue el kit de limpieza facial.

It is known that large fragment sizes and high connectivity levels are key components for maintaining species in fragments; however, their relative effects are poorly understood, especially in tropical areas. In order to test these effects, we built models for explaining understory birds occurrence in a fragmented Atlantic Rain Forest landscape with intermediate habitat cover (3%). Data from over 9000 mist-net hours from 17 fragments differing in size (2-175 ha) and connectivity (considering corridor linkages and distance to nearby fragments) were ranked under a model selection approach. A total 1293 individuals of 62 species were recorded. Species richness, abundance and compositional variation were mainly affected by connectivity indices that consider the capacity of species to use corridors and/or to cross short distances up to 30 m through the matrix. Bird functional groups were differently affected by area and connectivity: while terrestrial insectivores, omnivores and frugivores were affected by both area and connectivity, the other groups (understory insectivores, nectarivores, and others) were affected only by connectivity. In the studied landscape, well connected fragments can sustain an elevated number of species and individuals. Connectivity gives the opportunity for individuals to use multiple fragments, reducing the influence of fragment size. While preserving large fragments is a conservation target worldwide and should continue to be, our results indicated that connectivity between fragments can enhance the area functionally connected and is beneficial to all functional groups and therefore should be a conservation priority. This work consists of a literature review of technical project management with a focus on cost management in order to establish concepts and build a theoretical basis for later perform a case study of a construction company. All of the literature review is based on best practices in project management from the Project Management Institute - PMI, among other bibliographies that use the same concepts. The case study covers issues such as area of expertise, constructions undertaken, methodologies, procedures, assumptions, allowing to understand how the company operates in the market and, especially, which interfaces with the cost department in company processes. Confronting the knowledge gained from the literature review of the concepts of PMI and the information obtained from the case study on the current situation of the management costs of the company, it was possible to identify some gaps in the company processes of cost management and thus propose the solution of creating a centralized functional area focused on cost, that is responsible for ensuring that best practices in project management, specifically costs, are being applied

This work discusses the internal structuring processes of leading companies when adopting green supply chain management (GSCM) practices. A multiple case study approach was adopted as the research methodology, with four large Brazilian companies that are leaders in their market segments. The introduction of green products is a key step towards initiating concern for the environment among suppliers and customers. This study's results show the importance of having green teams, a dedicated functional area, and/or green jobs that support the discussion of environmental management among a business and beyond. The practical results of this study offer new insights into the behavior of companies that are adopting GSCM practices, thereby generating new evidence for the extension of GSCM theory. Job burnout is linked to job outcomes in public accounting professionals (Fogarty et al., 2000; Jones et al., 2010; Jones et al., 2012). Although women and men have entered the profession in relatively equal numbers, there is a significantly lower percentage of women partners (AICPA, 2011). Extant research has not sufficiently explored how burnout may affect the genders distinctly and whether these differences may lend insight as to women’s choices to exit. A large participant group with a similar proportion of women (n=836) and men (n=845) allowed examination of the burnout construct on a more profound level than extant studies. The three dimensions of job burnout in women and men public accountants were analyzed, not only in total, but also by functional area and position level. Overall findings are that women report higher levels of reduced personal accomplishment and men report higher levels of depersonalization. In light of these findings, suggestions are made for firm and individual actions that may mitigate the intensity of burnout experienced by both women and men public accountants.

Based on the empirical evidence that the ratio of email messages in public mailing lists to versioning system commits has remained relatively constant along the history of the Apache Software Foundation (ASF), this paper has as goal to study what can be inferred from such a metric for projects of the ASF. We have found that the metric seems to be an intensive metric as it is independent of the size of the project, its activity, or the number of developers, and remains relatively independent of the technology or functional area of the project. Our analysis provides evidence that the metric is related to the technical effervescence and popularity of project, and as such can be a good candidate to measure its healthy evolution. Other, similar metrics -like the ratio of developer messages to commits and the ratio of issue tracker messages to commits- are studied for several projects as well, in order to see if they have similar characteristics.

El objeto de la investigación es analizar la situación de las plataformas logísticas y caracterizar las mismas, sus áreas funcionales y los parámetros de diseño que se utilizan para su planificación y desarrollo. La investigación se ha realizado sobre las plataformas logísticas existentes en España, si bien se ha contrastado la situación nacional con otras experiencias internacionales. Para ello se ha procedido al estudio del estado del arte a nivel internacional, determinando la terminología, caracterización y clasificación que aporta la comunidad científica al respecto sobre las plataformas logísticas. La investigación se ha centrado en el estudio de un elevado número de plataformas logísticas ubicadas en distintas Comunidades Autónomas, que representan en torno al cuarenta por ciento de las que se encuentran en estos momentos en activo, analizando sus datos básicos, su clasificación en lo que respecta a su grado de centralidad, su intermodalidad, su accesibilidad, y la información urbanística relativa a superficies de áreas funcionales, edificabilidades, usos principales, complementarios y no admitidos, red viaria, zonas verdes, y parámetros máximos y mínimos de ordenación. El análisis, valoración e interpretación de los resultados obtenidos, ha permitido concluir en la heterogeneidad existente sobre el término, proponiéndose por parte del autor un nuevo concepto que englobe y defina de forma genérica pero clara la tipología de plataformas logísticas presentes en el panorama nacional. Del mismo modo, y como consecuencia de la investigación realizada, ha sido posible la caracterización de una “plataforma logística tipo”, estableciendo unos parámetros de diseño estándar para desarrollos posteriores. Finalmente se proponen varias líneas de investigación. En primer lugar, analizar el conjunto del transporte de mercancías, para determinar y valorar su desequilibrio, para de este modo potenciar la intermodalidad e internacionalizar la misma; y, en segundo lugar, establecer una regulación global de las competencias y legislación en materia de planificación de centros logísticos, para racionalizar el desarrollo de estos elementos. The aim of this research is to analyze the situation of logistics platforms and to characterize them, their functional areas and the design parameters that are used in their planning and development. This study was conducted on logistics platforms in Spain, although the situation in Spain has been compared to other international experiences. For this purpose, the international state-of-the-art has been examined, determining the terminology, characterization and classification provided by the scientific community in regard to logistics platforms. The research focuses on the study of a large number of logistics platforms located in different Autonomous Regions, representing approximately 40% of those currently in operation. An analysis has been made of the fundamental data, classification in regard to the degree of centrality, intermodality, accessibility and the urban planning information relating to functional area spaces, as well as buildable potential, main, complementary and prohibited uses, the road network, green zones and maximum and minimum development planning parameters. The analysis, evaluation and interpretation of the results obtained has led to the conclusion of the heterogeneous nature of the term, and the author proposes a new concept that would cover and define, in a generic yet clear way, the typology of logistics platforms present in the national scenario. In a similar manner, and as a result of the research conducted, it has been possible to define a “logistics platform type”, establishing standard design parameters for future developments. Lastly, various lines of research are proposed. In the first place, to analyze overall goods transport to determine and evaluate its imbalances and, in this way, to promote its intermodality and internationalization. In the second place, to establish a global regulation of competencies and legislation with regard to the planning of logistics centers, to rationalize the development of these elements.

El área urbana localizada en el contorno de la ría de Vigo se vino comportando hasta finales de los años ochenta del siglo XX como una verdadera "ciudad difusa", entendida la difusión como la forma de urbanización de baja densidad que todavía conserva unas características y una funcionalidad propiamente urbanas, aportadas por la malla tradicional parroquial de caminos y núcleos de población. Esta Tesis demuestra que en el período de veinte años transcurrido entre 1990 y 2010, el área, en la que ya se apreciaban fenómenos de naturaleza metropolitana y policentrismo, experimentó una transformación basada en los factores y formas de urbanización estudiados en otras áreas y ciudades intermedias de similares dimensiones. Para la delimitación del ámbito de estudio se consideraron las diferentes dimensiones y escalas de áreas funcionales utilizadas en distintos estudios y planes territoriales, eligiéndose el que toma como referente principal la Ría de Vigo como soporte de la conurbación polinuclear de su contorno. Para investigar el desarrollo urbanístico operado en el período se estudiaron los factores y formas de urbanización característicos de la urbanización en territorios de baja densidad en esta época, y las variables de densidad es de población y vivienda, primacía y polaridad territorial, ritmos de edificación, planeamiento urbanístico y territorial, actividades económicas, movilidad, desplazamientos residenciatrabajo y vacíos urbanos. Las conclusiones permiten observar como el crecimiento residencial descentralizado, que se ha dado principalmente en el litoral, y la localización periférica de las actividades y dotaciones públicas han introducido elementos de dispersión y fragmentación espacial y social, así como las nuevas y potentes infraestructuras viarias, que han mejorado los desplazamientos a costa de una dependencia abusiva del vehículo privado, y han comenzado a amenazar la sostenibilidad del sistema. La planificación de ordenación territorial a escala metropolitana y el planeamiento urbanístico, que se comenzaron a utilizar con normalidad en esta época, se vislumbran como una oportunidad para reconducir el proceso, integrando los territorios genéricos surgidos entre las nuevas infraestructuras y dotaciones y la malla tradicional, así como los vacíos urbanos susceptibles de compactación, protegiendo aquellos otros vacíos que deben constituir la principal reserva ecológica: Los montes en mano común y la Ría de Vigo. La necesidad de una planificación operativa, sostenible y participativa, que integre la ordenación territorial, la gestión integral de los recursos de la Ría, y articule las diferentes competencias y escalas, la gobernanza , la participación ciudadana y el mercado, se considera la principal conclusión para el futuro. ABSTRACT The urban area located around the Ría de Vigo* used to behave like a “diffused city” until the late 1980s, understanding this difussion as the low-density urbanization that still today exhibits ‘urban’ characteristics and functionality, given by the traditional network of parish paths and town cores. This Thesis shows that during the twenty-year period from 1990 to 2010, this area, which previously showed signals of polycentrism and metropolitan character, started a transformation based on the factors and ways of urbanization studied in other areas and intermediate cities of similar dimensions. In order to demarcate the scope of this study, different dimensions and functional area scales previously used in other studies have been taken into account, choosing the one that takes the Ría de Vigo as the main reference and the basis of the polynuclear conurbation of its surroundings. To research the urban development in this period, factors and ways of urbanization regarding lowdensity territories have been considered, as well as some variables like density of population and housing, territorial primacy and polarity, building rates, territorial planning, economic activities, mobility, home-to-work trips and urban holes. Conclusions allow us to point out how the decentralised residential growing (that occurred mainly on the litoral surface) and the periferic localization of the activities and public facilities, have created elements of “sprawl” and spacial and social fragmentation, which, together with the new and powerfull road infraestructures network (that made the movements easier by means of an abusive dependence on the private vehicle), have started to threaten the sustainability of the system. The planification of the territorial ordinance at metropolitan scale and the urban planning, that in that time started to be established, can be considered as an opportunity to get things back on track, integrating the territories risen up from the new infrastructures and facilities and the traditional network together with the urban holes liable to be compacted, with a special protection of the spaces that must be the main ecological reserve: the communal forests and the Ría de Vigo. The need of a sustainable and participatory operative planification, able to integrate the territory planning, the integral management of resources and the citizen involvement and the market, has to be considered as the main goal for the future.
