A maldade na encruzilhada do século XIX: Franklin Távora e O Cabeleira

O romance O Cabeleira, de Franklin Távora, é considerado um marco do regionalismo literário brasileiro. De difícil defi nição, situa-se numa encruzilhada de períodos, estilos, tradições e ideologias, donde emerge uma perspectiva já incompatibilizada com o antigo regime, porém ainda caudatária de idéias românticas. A questão da maldade, muito presente na narrativa, aponta tais confl uências e problemas, explicitando os limites da visão de mundo do autor.

Bajo la influencia alemana, el culto a las tradiciones populares como una forma de valorización del pueblo, o sea, la exaltación nacionalista o humanitaria del pasado fue uno de los rasgos marcantes del romanticismo. Franklin Barley: Patent law and plant breeders’ rights

This paper considers the relationship between patent law and plant breeders' rights in light of modern developments in biotechnology. It examines how a number of superior courts have sought to manage the tensions and conflicts between these competing schemes of intellectual property protection. Part 1 considers the High Court of Australia case of Grain Pool of Western Australia v the Commonwealth dealing with Franklin barley. Part 2 examines the significance of the Supreme Court of the United States decision in JEM Ag Supply Inc v Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc with respect to utility patents and hybrid seed. Part 3 considers the Supreme Court of Canada case of Harvard College v the Commissioner of Patents dealing with the transgenic animal, oncomouse, and discusses its implications for the forthcoming appeal from the Federal Court case of Percy Schmeiser v Monsanto.

Governor Moses calls on South Carolinians to endeavor to become a respected member of the United States following the U.S. Civil War. His message addresses the status of the national debt, South Carolina public education, the South Carolina Orphan Asylum, the South Carolina Lunatic Asylum, the state penitentiary, the state’s quarantine of small pox, the revenue-generating phosphate deposits in the state, immigration to the state, the state’s flagship university, current state legislation, and the state militia.
