In New Times (Hall, 1996), there has been much rhetoric about school’s role in equipping students for the future. Futures education, or futures pedagogy, provides an interdisciplinary approach in which alternative futures may be explored, designed and articulated. Enactivism, as a theory of learning, affirms my contention that it is not enough to talk about the future. Rather, I propose that education must act as an agent of change, in equipping teachers and students alike, to imagine, critique and create possible, preferable and probable futures. This paper, then, explores the co-emergence (Manturana & Varela, 1992) of an explicit futures dimension, and teaching and learning drawing upon case studies of practice in schools.

Currere reconceptualises curriculum as understanding learning experiences. This paper outlines potentials for pictures in re-envisioning currere for a world growing in complexity.
Vision, as the privileged sense for acquiring knowledge, is often regarded deterministically - seeing is believing. But, as sophisticated technology becomes more significant in the control of knowledge systems - as 'reality' becomes more virtual - personal visual experiences are becoming harder to generate, interpret and authenticate. Knowledge technology is increasing exposure to 'mediated messages' and diminishing the ability to validate them. I see this as problematic for the authenticity of learning within a world that is intensifying in its complexity.
My work reaches beyond determinist/technological views of learning to explore envisioning-experiences within learning. I am particularly interested in ways that enacting with pictures embodies individuals, communities, and the world within understandings of complexity and authenticity. In practical terms, this involves interactively and reflexively 'doing pictures' as a personal process in learning for deeper understanding.
The paper explores three issues:
* Text and pictures: learning, thinking, and knowing, as textual dominions that marginalise pictures.
* Enactivism and learning: an approach to learning for complex communities that embodies mindful thinking within haptic experiences.
* Enactive picturing: laying a personal processual path with learning that complexifies understandings for authenticating experiences - doing-walking-talking - with pictures.

The paper investigates the role of the body in didactics. It looks up for points of contact between the functional sceneries of the classroom and some recent approaches, such like simplexity, neurosciences and enactivism. The two experiments presented they aim to demonstrate the importance of body awareness to improve the didactic quality. The first experience used a SenseWear Armband that provided data about the energetic expenditure of a teacher during diff erent activities in a lesson. Th e second experiment relied on a neurofeedback device integrated to a sensor, it detected body temperature with the aim of understanding the role of the body in the process of self-regulation-learning and management of attention and arousal.

The article uses theoretical approaches as simplexity, neuroscience and enactivism to discuss everyday classroom activities. It tries to transpose the classical bipolar division between mind and body, through these approaches in cognitive science. Two experiments on the body’s role in teaching are presented to demonstrate the relevance of the awareness of the body, to improve performance in the classroom. The first experiment uses neurofeedback to measure the body temperature, as a means to understand the role of the body in self-regulation and control of the attention. The second uses a bracelet multi-sensor, which provides data on the energy spent by the teacher in daily activities in the classroom. Italian and Brazilian researchers cooperate in this experimental path of inclusive teaching, to be used in classes with children and adolescents with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
