This work presents, from the perspective of a freelancer professional, a case study of a practical and real implementation of an Open Source ERP software suite to a very small company, including the development of a custom software module to adapt the suite to the particular needs of the company.

Adaptation and Localization of Open Source ERPs - The case of Parties in OFBiz

O software tem vindo a tornar-se uma parte importante de qualquer empresa, cobrindo várias áreas funcionais, tais como manufaturação, vendas ou recursos humanos. O facto de uma empresa possuir um software capaz de ligar todas ou a maior parte das suas áreas funcionais e de acomodar as suas regras de negócio permite que estas tenham acesso a dados em tempo real nos quais se podem basear para tomar decisões. Estes tipos de software podem ser categorizados como Enterprise resource planning (ERP). Tendo em conta que estes tipos de software têm um papel importante dentro de uma empresa, a aquisição dos mesmos é algo que deve ser bem estudado. As grandes empresas normalmente optam pela aquisição de soluções comerciais uma vez que estas tendem a ter mais funcionalidades, maior suporte e certificações. Os ERPs comerciais representam, no entanto, um esforço elevado para que a sua compra possa ser feita, o que limita a possibilidade de aquisição dos mesmos por parte de pequenas ou médias empresas. No entanto, tal como acontece com a maior parte dos tipos de software, existem alternativas open-source. Se nos colocássemos na posição de uma pequena empresa, a tentar iniciar o seu negócio em Portugal, que tipo de ERP seria suficiente para os nossos requisitos? Teríamos que optar por comprar uma solução comercial, ou uma solução open-source seria suficiente? E se optássemos por desenvolver uma solução à medida? Esta tese irá responder a estas questões focando-se apenas num dos componentes base de qualquer ERP, a gestão de entidades. O componente de gestão de entidades é responsável por gerir todas as entidades com as quais a empresa interage abrangindo colaboradores, clientes, fornecedores, etc. A nível de funcionalidades será feita uma comparação entre um ERP comercial e um ERP open-source. Como os ERPs tendem a ser soluções muito genéricas é comum que estes não implementem todos os requisitos de um negócio em particular, como tal os ERPs precisam de ser extensíveis e adaptáveis. Para perceber até que ponto a solução open-source é extensível será feita uma análise técnica ao seu código fonte e será feita uma implementação parcial de um gerador de ficheiros de auditoria requerido pela lei Portuguesa, o SAF-T (PT). Ao estudar e adaptar a solução open-source podemos especificar o que teria que ser desenvolvido para podermos criar uma solução à medida de raiz.

L’objectiu del projecte consisteix en l’estudi, simulació i implantació d’un conjunt d’aplicacions que permeten tenir un control sobre possibles problemes que puguin succeir a la nostra xarxa. Aquest projecte és la solució als problemes de detecció d’errors en el funcionament de les infraestructures de networking de les que disposen els nostres clients.

ScriptLattes: an open-source knowledge extraction system from the Lattes platform

The Lattes platform is the major scientific information system maintained by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). This platform allows to manage the curricular information of researchers and institutions working in Brazil based on the so called Lattes Curriculum. However, the public information is individually available for each researcher, not providing the automatic creation of reports of several scientific productions for research groups. It is thus difficult to extract and to summarize useful knowledge for medium to large size groups of researchers. This paper describes the design, implementation and experiences with scriptLattes: an open-source system to create academic reports of groups based on curricula of the Lattes Database. The scriptLattes system is composed by the following modules: (a) data selection, (b) data preprocessing, (c) redundancy treatment, (d) collaboration graph generation among group members, (e) research map generation based on geographical information, and (f) automatic report creation of bibliographical, technical and artistic production, and academic supervisions. The system has been extensively tested for a large variety of research groups of Brazilian institutions, and the generated reports have shown an alternative to easily extract knowledge from data in the context of Lattes platform. Aquest projecte desenvolupa la part client d'una aplicació per controlar una flota de camions. Està implementada per funcionar sobre un dispositiu mòbil que funcioni amb el sistema operatiu Android.

Gestió Documental Open Source per Agresso CRM

Estudi i integració d'una aplicació Open Source especialitzada en la gestió documental amb Agresso CRM. L'objectiu d'aquesta aplicació és oferir nova funcionalitat a la gestió documental inicial i augmentar-ne les seves capacitats. Per tal de dur-lo a terme s’ha fet una recerca i un estudi d'aplicacions Open Source especialitzades en la gestió documental. Entre les aplicacions estudiades s'ha escollit KnowledgeTree pel desenvolupament de la integració, ja que era la que responia d’una manera més satisfactòria als requisits.

Creació automàtica de gràfics estadístics a partir de dades de soroll d’Europa amb tecnologies Open Source en el visor Noise Map Viewer de l’ETC-LUSI

El projecte ha consistit en la creació de gràfics estadístics de soroll d’Europa de forma automàtica amb tecnologies Open Source dins el visor Noise Map Viewer per Europa de l’ETC-LUSI. La llibreria utilitzada per fer aquest procés ha estat JFreeChart i el llenguatge de programació utilitzat ha estat Java (programació orientada a objectes) dins l’entorn de desenvolupament integrat Eclipse. La base de dades utilitzada ha estat PostgreSQL. Com a servidors s’han fet servir Apache (servidor HTTP) i Tomcat (servidor contenidor d’aplicacions). Un cop acabat el procés s’ha integrat dins de MapFish canviant el codi JavaScript corresponent de la web original.

Millora i implementació de l’eina Open-Source AC2GeoNetwork per ArcCatalog

L’ETC-LUSI ha modificat l’aplicació de publicació de les metadades al portal de GeoNetwork amb l’objectiu de presentar i millorar la publicació de les mateixes, adaptant-se a la nova tipologia d’arxius d’emmagatzematge de les darreres versions del software de la casa ESRI, així com poder-les fer arribar al major nombre d’usuaris possible interessats en el intercanvi d’informació cartogràfica

En aquest treball es proposa una aproximació al món del codi font obert des del punt de vista de la realització de portals col·laboratius i les seves eines involucrades. Per fer-ho, es passa revista als diferents tipus d'aplicacions, plataformes i utilitats que trobem disponibles, i s'agrupen en diferents categories: infraestructura i sistemes, serveis de comunicació, serveis de comunitat, serveis genèrics de portal, eines d'interacció amb sistemes mòbils, eines per al desenvolupament i prova i llibreries de suport.

OpenNebula y Hadoop : Cloud Computing con herramientas Open Source

El presente proyecto consiste en una introducción al "cloud computing" y un estudio en profundidad de las herramientas OpenNebula, dentro del modelo IaaS (Infraestructure as a Service), y Hadoop, dentro del modelo PaaS (Platform as a Service). El trabajo también incluye la instalación, integración, configuración y puesta en marcha de una plataforma "cloud computing" utilizando OpenNebula y Hadoop con el objetivo de aplicar los conceptos teóricos en una solución real dentro de un entorno de laboratorio que puede ser extrapolable a una instalación real.

Open source software expectations in retail businesses of Igualada : an exploratory study

The emergence of open source software in the last years has become a common topic of study in different fields, from the most technical characteristics to the economical aspects. This paper examines the current status about the literature dealing with economics of open source and explores the uses, infrastructure and expectations of retail businesses and institutions of the town of Igualda about it. This qualitative case study finds out that the current equipment and level of uses of ICTs are low and that the current situation of the town stores is receptive to a potential introduction of open source software.

Contribution to Asterisk Open Source Project

With this final master thesis we are going to contribute to the Asterisk open source project. Asterisk is an open source project that started with the main objective of develop an IP telephony platform, completely based on Software (so not hardware dependent) and under an open license like GPL. This project was started on 1999 by the software engineer Mark Spencer at Digium. The main motivation of that open source project was that the telecommunications sector is lack of open solutions, and most of the available solutions are based on proprietary standards, which are close and not compatible between them. Behind the Asterisk project there is a company, Digum, which is the project leading since the project was originated in its laboratories. This company has some of its employees fully dedicated to contribute to the Asterisk project, and also provide the whole infrastructure required by the open source project. But the business of Digium isn't based on licensing of products due to the open source nature of Asterisk, but it's based on offering services around Asteriskand designing and selling some hardware components to be used with Asterisk. The Asterisk project has grown up a lot since its birth, offering in its latest versions advanced functionalities for managing calls and compatibility with some hardware that previously was exclusive of proprietary solutions. Due to that, Asterisk is becoming a serious alternative to all these proprietaries solutions because it has reached a level of maturity that makes it very stable. In addition, as it is open source, it can be fully customized to a givenrequirement, which could be impossible with the proprietaries solutions. Due to the bigness that is reaching the project, every day there are more companies which develop value added software for telephony platforms, that are seriously evaluating the option of make their software fully compatible withAsterisk platforms. All these factors make Asterisk being a consolidated project but in constant evolution, trying to offer all those functionalities offered by proprietaries solutions. This final master thesis will be divided mainly in two blocks totally complementaries. In the first block we will analyze Asterisk as an open source project and Asterisk as a telephony platform (PBX). As a result of this analysis we will generate a document, written in English because it is Asterisk project's official language, which could be used by future contributors as an starting point on joining Asterisk. On the second block we will proceed with a development contribution to the Asterisk project. We will have several options in the form that we do the contribution, such as solving bugs, developing new functionalities or start an Asterisk satellite project. The type of contribution will depend on the needs of the project on that moment.
