From ‘free’ to fee: Acceptability of airline ancillary fees and the effects on customer behavior

Businesses in various consumer service industries have begun to unbundle their service offerings by introducing numerous fees for products and services that were previously provided as “free.” Anecdotal evidence in the media indicates that these fees cause widespread public displeasure, frustration, and outrage. This paper develops a framework of fee acceptability, negative emotions, and dysfunctional customer behavior, which is tested using data from the airline industry. Findings identify the strongest effects on betrayal in the case of baggage fees, followed by charges for comfort. Also, betrayal has a direct effect on complaining, whereas anger mediates the relationship between betrayal and negative word of mouth.

Literatura boa é que eu gosto; ruim a que eu não gosto: fóruns de discussão literária da rede social ORKUT e a Teoria da Valoração uma análise crítica

Esta dissertação se insere nos estudos de Linguística e é vinculada à Análise Crítica do Discurso (FAIRCLOUGH, 1989, 2003) e à Linguística Sistêmico-Funcional (HALLIDAY, 1970, 1973), investigando o que é a qualidade literária para os internautas que interagem em fóruns de discussão do Orkut, à luz da Teoria da Valoração (MARTIN ; WHITE, 2005). De acordo com as categorias que abrangem o subsistema da Atitude da Teoria da Valoração (MARTIN ; WHITE, 2005), analisa-se como os leitores internautas se posicionam sobre a questão da qualidade literária e a ideologia que perpassa seus discursos. O conceito de ideologia adotado é o proposto por Thompson (2009), para quem o conceito deve ser compreendido a partir da noção de hegemonia e poder, ou seja, a ideologia necessariamente estabelece e sustenta relações de dominação, reproduzindo a ordem social que favorece indivíduos e grupos dominantes.O corpus desta pesquisa é composto de três amostras colhidas entre 15/07/2009 e 05/01/2010 correspondentes a uma discussão iniciada em comunidade relacionada a assuntos literários. A AMOSTRA 1 refere-se ao tópico Leitura difícil é sinal de qualidade?, da comunidade Literatura; a AMOSTRA 2, se refere ao tópico Qualidade do texto literário, da comunidade Discutindo... literatura e, por fim, a AMOSTRA 3 representa o tópico O que é um bom texto literário para você, também da comunidade Literatura. Cada discussão possui congruências e divergências quanto às representações sobre literatura e essas foram também analisadas. Não obstante, o que nos interessa é perceber como as ideologias perpassam seus discursos de acordo com os valores que os internautas atribuem a aspectos do texto literário. Foram escolhidos fóruns de discussão online do Orkut porque as interações em redes sociais constituem elemento novo das práticas sociais e, portanto, relevantes pontos de apoio para a investigação da criação de sentidos sobre o conceito de boa literatura. Investigar como a literatura, objeto de estudo acadêmico, é analisada em tais espaços cibernéticos é instigante, por não ser usual. Os resultados obtidos nessa pesquisa sugerem que o internauta reproduz o discurso acadêmico hegemônico acerca da qualidade literária ao debater a qualidade intrínseca do texto literário com a ressalva de manifestar seu contentamento ou descontentamento acerca de determinados textos literários e escritores, dado novo que revela uma característica deste espaço não institucional de discussão, em que os internautas se sentem à vontade para manifestar sua opinião

El objetivo del presente artículo es el de analizar la estética del Rock en términos de la experiencia que ofrece este género musical. En primer lugar se construirá una relación entre el Nacimiento de la tragedia de Nietzsche y el surgimiento del Rock, bajo la premisa de que el origen del Rock es eminentemente dionisíaco; luego se mostrará una forma de la experiencia en la vida cotidiana de quien escucha Rock, en donde se da cuenta de la necesidad de expresar los sentimientos de placer y displacer en el individuo; por último, se verá el concierto como expresión última del Rock, expresión que se enmarca dentro de la característica de una celebración-ritual que guarda semejanzas con la tragedia griega. Estos elementos terminan por dar cuenta de una forma de ver el mundo en la que se constituye la individualidad dentro de la comunidad electiva

Injecting content into the mirage that is proportionality in sentencing

Sentencing involves the deliberate infliction of harm by society on individuals. It is the most coercive means through which the community imposes its collective (albeit civilised) displeasure at harmful conduct. It is an important and complex process, which involves balancing fundamental interests of victims and the community on the one hand and offenders on the other. The single most important determinant in setting criminal sanctions is the principle of proportionality, which provides that the harshness of the penalty should match the seriousness of the offence. The principle is intuitively appealing but in reality is an illusion, and hence the reason why penalties for criminal offences vary enormously within and across jurisdictions. The main reason is because there is no agreement regarding the considerations that inform offence severity or sanction hardship. This article injects content into the proportionality principle by suggesting that both limbs of the principle should be informed by the extent to which the crime and the sanction set back the well-being of victims and offenders, respectively. These interests are not conclusively mapped. However, a methodology is set out for establishing these interests. This will lead to greater consistency in sentencing and provide a sounder, normative foundation for the manner in which society deals with criminals.

Reflexões filosóficas em torno da constituição do sujeito religioso-moral no pensamento de Freud

The present research deals with a philosophical reflection about the constitution of the subject religious and moral in the thought of Freud, starting from of question of religion while one of the various spaces concretion of the individual morality. Our hypothesis is that religion presents itself as a space of revival of the primary relationship with the mother of the subject and as a moral agency. That primary relationship corresponds to the period before the Oedipus complex. The cut caused in the Oedipus complex sake in the an emptiness the subject, leading him to a situation of helplessness. In trying to fill the emptiness and consequently out of the situation of displeasure occasioned by the helplessness, the individual seeks diverses means, between which, the religion. The religion, that sense, quest for one part, that support be filling of the existential emptiness, triggered in the Oedipus complex, and on the other, works as a staunch ally of the Superego, which for turn is direct heir of the Oedipus complex and whose function is to require of the subject to moral living, as is established by the social body, where the individual is inserted. Therefore, we seek to draw this subject starting from general ideas of the philosophy, about the moral, as well as some theoretical elements of freudian thought, since his idea of the origin of the culture, morality and religion the more specific elements that pertain to the individual subject, ie, the psychism

O Mal-estar no Trabalho: a culpa como mal-estar e a culpa do mal-estar

The present work is a reflexive-theoretically research that intends, by the light of Psychoanalytic and Freudo-Marxim theories, to think about the work malaise - effect of a repressive civilization -, and the sublimation possibilities, in the context of the discussions about the conflict individual-civilization. The work favors the essential thing for the human race's representations. Current researches indicate the importance of thinking the work in the process physical and mental health/illness, as well as the subjectivity of the human race in the present time. However, the organizations of work, using reductionist views, with the psychiatric-medical Knowledge/power as accomplice, have a tendency to disregard their responsibilities in the "production" of the illnesses in the workers. Freud, by the neurosis's understanding, showed that in the individual-civilization conflict the first one pays a high price: the constant malaise (the guilt as malaise). While who detains the guilt, in the social sense of the word (the guilt of malaise), is the human culture, intermediated by the organizations, defenders of the minority's interests that hold the manners of production/exploration. According to Freud, the growth of the feeling of guilt is inevitable, considering the necessity of the drives repression to cultural progress through displeasure work. However, Reich and Marcuse theorize an exit for the Freudian pessimism about the conflict between the individual and the civilization. Freud didn't consider properly the nature socio-historical of the Reality Principle, understanding it like universal. Therefore, the level of repression would have a specific socio-economic class: surplus value for a minority and more repression for the great mass. A less repressive Reality Principle might provide a fair progress of the humanity. It's in the list of discussion the possibility of the work in social and psychological conditions that allow the reduction of worker's malaise in the civilization's breast.

O jogo sob uma investigação psicanalítica

To Freud the group of the psychic activity has for purpose the search of pleasure and escape to the displeasure, and of that drift that the aspects associated to memories of unpleasant experiences have for tendency the removal of level of conscience. The unconscious repeats in subject, in way of being and through where he sees the world. That repetition also shows in practice of game. This study leaned on in analysis of Freudian work to play. Because, independent of sphere in that it is acting, the activity of the game is accomplished, predominantly, under an atmosphere predominantly pleased. The game can propitiate situation so that it happens the sublimation of drive forces, making possible occurrence, in an acceptable way socially, contributing to accomplishment of satisfaction. Like this, this study had as objective contemplates, starting from the reading of passages of Freudian work, on desire and the pleasure to play. For the elaboration of that text pertinent bibliographical revision was accomplished to the game, in relationship with psychoanalysis starting from Freud and other authors.

Sobre las vicisitudes del término Gemüt

Immanuel Kant´s philosophy is the critic theory about Gemüt, which culmination is reached in the Kritik der Urteilskraft. It contains, in its meaning, the dimention of the animus as well as the dimention of the thymós; in this sense, it is the source and seat of the subject´s total faculties. Among them, Kant includes the feeling of joy and displeasure, which faculty of knowing is the Urteilskraft, and its principle a priori is the ending (but not the culmination), for which theGemüt is the subject´s life. In Hegel’s philosophy of art, it is reduced to just feeling.

ESTUDO DA EFICÁCIA ADAPTATIVA DE EXECUTIVOS E SUAS RELAÇÕES COM O TRABALHO

O presente estudo visa investigar a psicodinâmica de profissionais executivos e as suas relações com o trabalho, segundo a teoria da adaptação de Ryad Simon. Os objetivos foram: 1. avaliar a eficácia adaptativa de uma amostra de executivos; 2. verificar a influência do setor Produtividade na eficácia adaptativa; 3. identificar os micro-fatores internos e externos, positivos ou negativos determinantes dessa adaptação; 4. relacionar os micro-fatores à situação profissional desses executivos. O método utilizado foi o clínico e a técnica, a entrevista preventiva e não diretiva. Foram entrevistados 19 executivos de média gerência que trabalham em empresas industriais. Os dados de entrevista foram avaliados clinicamente e operacionalizados por meio da Escala Diagnóstica Adaptativa Operacionalizada EDAO. Os diagnósticos encontrados foram: Grupo 1, Adaptação Eficaz, 04 executivos; em Crise Adaptativa, 01; Grupo 2, Adaptação Ineficaz Leve, 03; Grupo 3, Adaptação Ineficaz Moderada, 08; Grupo 4, Adaptação Ineficaz Severa, 01; e Grupo 5, Adaptação Ineficaz Grave, 02. O setor Produtividade mostrou ter uma importância central e atual na vida desses homens influenciando todos os setores adaptativos, de forma positiva ou negativa. Pela análise dos micro-fatores internos e externos avaliamos que o setor Afetivo-Relacional também influi na adaptação através de sentimentos internalizados e projetados e na forma deles encararem o mundo e as relações com o trabalho; observamos que os sujeitos mostram uma dependência psicológica forte com as organizações as quais pertencem, e sentimentos de amor e ódio, prazer e sofrimento em relação ao trabalho. Concluímos que para esta amostra de executivos, o trabalho tem um significado central nas suas vidas e, os sentimentos internalizados, advindos do próprio trabalho, podem aumentar ou diminuir a disposição, afetar relações e, conseqüentemente, provocar mudanças graduais ou súbitas em sua eficácia adaptativa.

Apuntes sobre la percepción subconsciente en el cine: el ejemplo de Alien, el octavo pasajero (1979) y su propuesta orgánica de atracción/repulsión

En una revisión profunda en la que se aportan datos hasta ahora inéditos, el presente artículo analiza nuevas claves de por qué la película Alien, el octavo pasajero (Ridley Scott, 1979), ha causado una atracción sobredimensionada del espectador en su estreno y reposición a lo largo de más de tres décadas. Se propone la tesis de que el film emplea un conjunto de símbolos audiovisuales ocultos o semi-ocultos que provocan sensaciones de placer/displacer (eros y tanatos) y son las causantes directas de sus nutridas afinidades. Se explicita además cómo en el diseño/ presentación de un universo alienígena aparentemente nuevo (respecto al cine de ciencia ficción precedente) el espectador asume una mímesis identificativa y orgánica que se introduce en las profundidades del inconsciente, despertando un interés sorprendente entre audiencias de diferentes generaciones y edades. Se analiza el fenómeno subliminal o subconsciente en el cine, desde el punto de vista de la percepción, a partir de los experimentos publicitarios de los años 50 en una sala de exhibición de los Estados Unidos. También se estudia por primera vez el curioso paralelismo del argumento de la película con el impacto mediático previo y simultáneo del primer bebé probeta nacido el 25 de julio de 1978, en pleno inicio del rodaje de este film en los estudios londinenses Shepperton.
