A necessidade de redução da emissão de poluentes, visando diminuir os sérios problemas de poluição atmosférica enfrentados atualmente, é hoje uma das principais preocupações mundiais, provocando o surgimento de leis mais rígidas, que restringem o teor de enxofre na gasolina e no diesel. Assim, o desenvolvimento de tecnologias mais eficazes na remoção de enxofre nestes combustíveis tem recebido atenção crescente. Estas tecnologias incluem a extração física com solvente, a adsorção seletiva, processos de redução/oxidação microbiológicos e a dessulfurização oxidativa (ODS). A dessulfurização oxidativa converte os compostos de enxofre em sulfonas que podem ser facilmente separadas por processos físicos. Portanto, a ODS apresenta grande potencial para tornar-se um processo complementar a processo de hidrodessulfurização tradicional na produção de combustíveis altamente dessulfurizados. Neste contexto, este trabalho visou o estudo do desempenho de catalisadores de V2O5 suportados em alumina, sílica e sílica-alumina frente à reação de ODS do dibenzotiofeno em presença do peróxido de hidrogênio, como oxidante, e da acetonitrila, como solvente polar aprótico. Os catalisadores foram preparados por impregnação ao ponto úmido e caracterizados por difração de raios-X (DRX), análise textural, redução à temperatura programada (TPR-H2), dessorção de amônia à temperatura programa (TPD-NH3) e espectroscopia Raman. O efeito de parâmetros reacionais como quantidade de solvente, relação O/S e concentração de catalisador foram investigados, utilizando a alumina como suporte, visando estabelecer as condições reacionais que levassem a maiores valores de conversão do dibenzotiofeno (DBT). Uma vez estabelecidas estas condições, foi analisado o efeito do teor de V2O5 presente no catalisador e, posteriormente, o efeito do suporte catalítico. Os resultados obtidos mostraram a 70 C razão molar H2O2/Sde 16,6, razão carga/solvente igual a 1:1 e 100 mg do catalisador 15 % V2O5/SiO2, a conversão obtida foi de 95%

The oxidative desulfurization process (ODS) of a commercial diesel fuel was performed under mild conditions in the presence of catalysts based on vanadium or manganese, supported on alumina, clays (commercial, natural and pillared) and zeolites (NaX, NaY, beta, mordenite and ZSM-5). The catalysts were synthesized by wet impregnation and characterized by X-ray diffraction, textural analysis by N2 adsorption and scanning electron microscopy. The dibenzothiophene (DBT) was used as sulfur compound in catalytic evaluation. The reactions were performed using acetonitrile as solvent and the hydrogen peroxide as oxidant at 55°C. The reaction products were analized by gas chromatography (GC-FID). In the studied conditions, the process was efficient due to the DBT was converted to its corresponding sulfone. Both DBT and corresponding sulfone were extracted by the solvent. Removals and oxidations up to 100% of sulfur compound were achieved. The catalysts supported on ZSM-5 zeolite showed are more effective for oxidation reaction of sulfur compound, presenting the best results. It was observed for oxidation reaction, that vanadium catalysts were more effective and manganese catalysts showed best results for removal of sulfur compounds

Na reação de desidrogenação oxidativa de propano (ODHP), propano reage com oxigênio da superfície de metais de transição para produzir propeno e água, em temperaturas de 300-700C. Porém, o propeno pode facilmente oxidar, formando CO e CO2. Assim, busca-se catalisadores que promovam a seletividade do propeno. Compostos tipo hidrotalcitas estão sendo apontados como catalisadores de grande potencial para a reação. Portanto, o principal objetivo desse trabalho foi sintetizar precursores tipo hidrotalcitas (contendo íons Ni2+, Mg2+ e Al3+ e tereftalato, heptamolibdato e decavanadato como ânions de compensação) para serem testados na reação de desidrogenação oxidativa de propano. Esses precursores foram sintetizados com uma razão Al/(Al+Ni+Mg)=0,5, variando a razão de Ni/Mg. Além disso, realizou-se a troca iônica do tereftalato (TA) por heptamolibdato (Mo7O24) e decavanadato (V10O28). Esses compostos foram calcinados, obtendo-se assim, óxidos mistos de NiMgAl, NiMgAlMo e NiMgAlV que foram testados como catalisadores na reação de ODHP. Para a determinação das propriedades dos catalisadores foram usadas as técnicas de caracterização: DRX, TGA, volumetria de N2, TPR, Raman e FTIR e ICP. Os resultados indicaram que os materiais tipo hidrotalcita foram obtidos com sucesso. No caso dos precursores preparados por troca iônica a cristalinidade foi menor que os da série NiMgAl-TA. Estes mesmos precursores quando calcinados apresentaram áreas muito altas. Nas três séries, os precursores calcinados são constituídos por óxidos mistos como NiO, NiMoO4, Ni2V2O7 cristalinos e espécies de alumínio e magnésio não detectados na DRX. No teste catalítico de ODHP, observou-se que com o aumento da conversão diminuía a seletividade de propeno, para os óxidos mistos que não continham molibdênio. Os catalisadores da série molibdênio foram os que obtiveram melhor desempenho com altas seletividades, mesmo em altas conversões e a série de cujo precursor foi o tereftalato foi a que exibiu maiores conversões, mas com seletividades menores que da série de Mo

Este estudo apresenta a condição especial a que estão submetidos os equipamentos que ficam por longos períodos sem funcionar, sobretudo os chamados standby com misturas de biodiesel em seu interior. Mostra que os ensaios de validação para a introdução do biodiesel no Brasil, realizados sob o comando do governo brasileiro, foram basicamente constituídos por testes para acúmulo de quilometragem, como se o universo do diesel se resumisse a caminhões, vans e ônibus. Os equipamentos fora de estrada, em todas as suas formas de apresentação e uso, não foram adequadamente cobertos. O resultado é que um novo combustível foi introduzido no país (mescla de diesel mineral com biodiesel), com característica de degradabilidade muito maior do que o diesel puro. Este trabalho apresenta os parâmetros de qualidade necessários para que um combustível seja considerado adequado; apresenta os efeitos principais da degradação oxidativa; faz um levantamento das melhores práticas recomendadas pelos fabricantes de motores e veículos a diesel no mundo e, finalmente, consulta os fabricantes de sistema de injeção, motores e veículos no Brasil para saber se, em função das condições brasileiras, os fabricantes recomendam ações de prevenção distintas de suas matrizes. Em função dos problemas observados no país, algumas medidas adicionais precisam ser tomadas pelos proprietários de equipamentos a diesel para preservá-los. Dentre as medidas, destacam-se as seguintes: a) a especificação da mistura precisa ser obedecida com rigor; b) sempre que possível, quando o equipamento tiver de ser parado de modo previsível, o combustível deve ser esgotado do tanque; c) quando não for possível esgotar o tanque, o combustível tem de ser usado ou substituído em no máximo 30 dias; d) talvez reintroduzir sob condições especiais o diesel puro. Essa realidade nova que se instaurou com a introdução do biodiesel na matriz energética brasileira não foi devidamente informada à comunidade. Geradores de emergência que não seguem esses cuidados podem ter problemas para funcionar devido à degradação do combustível em seu interior e, pior, pode-se vir a descobrir esse fato apenas no momento da necessidade.

The mixed metal oxides constitute an important class of catalytic materials widely investigated in different fields of applications. Studies of rare earth nickelates have been carried by several researchers in order to investigate the structural stability afforded by oxide formed and the existence of catalytic properties at room temperature. So, this study aims synthesize the nanosized catalyst of nickelate of lanthanum doped with strontium (La(1-x)SrxNiO4-d; x = 0,2 and 0,3), through the Pechini method and your characterization for subsequent application in the desulfurization of thiophene reaction. The precursor solutions were calcined at 300ºC/2h for pyrolysis of polyester and later calcinations occurred at temperatures of 500 - 1000°C. The resulting powders were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis (TG / DTG), surface area for adsorption of N2 by BET method, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (HR_SEM) and spectrometry dispersive energy (EDS). The results of XRD had show that the perovskites obtained consist of two phases (LSN and NiO) and from 700ºC have crystalline structure. The results of SEM evidenced the obtainment of nanometric powders. The results of BET show that the powders have surface area within the range used in catalysis (5-50m2/g). The characterization of active sites was performed by reaction of desulfurization of thiophene at room temperature and 200ºC, the relation F/W equal to 0,7 mol h-1mcat -1. The products of the reaction were separated by gas chromatography and identified by the selective detection PFPD sulfur. All samples had presented conversion above 95%

Discussions about pollution caused by vehicles emission are old and have been developed along the years. The search for cleaner technologies and frequent weather alterations have been inducing industries and government organizations to impose limits much more rigorous to the contaminant content in fuels, which have an direct impact in atmospheric emissions. Nowadays, the quality of fuels, in relation to the sulfur content, is carried out through the process of hydrodesulfurization. Adsorption processes also represent an interesting alternative route to the removal of sulfur content. Both processes are simpler and operate to atmospheric temperatures and pressures. This work studies the synthesis and characterization of aluminophosphate impregnate with zinc, molybdenum or both, and its application in the sulfur removal from the gasoline through the adsorption process, using a pattern gasoline containing isooctane and thiophene. The adsorbents were characterized by x-ray diffraction, differential thermal analysis (DTG), x-ray fluorescence and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The specific area, volume and pore diameter were determined by BET (Brunauer- Emmet-Teller) and the t-plot method. The sulfur was quantified by elementary analysis using ANTEK 9000 NS. The adsorption process was evaluated as function of the temperature variation and initial sulfur content through the adsorption isotherm and its thermodynamic parameters. The parameters of entropy (ΔS), enthalpy variation (ΔH) and free Gibbs energy (ΔG) were calculated through the graph ln(Kd) versus 1/T. Langmuir, Freundlich and Langmuir-Freundlich models were adjusted to the experimental data, and the last one had presented better results. The thermodynamic tests were accomplished in different temperatures, such as 30, 40 and 50ºC, where it was concluded the adsorption process is spontaneous and exothermic. The kinetic of adsorption was studied by 24 h and it showed that the capability adsorption to the adsorbents studied respect the following order: MoZnPO > MoPO > ZnPO > AlPO. The maximum adsorption capacity was 4.91 mg/g for MoZnPO with an adsorption efficiency of 49%.

The biodiesel is defined as the mono-alkyl ester derived from long-chain fatty acids, from renewable sources such as vegetable oils or animal fat, whose use is associated with the replacement of fossil fuels in diesel engine cycle. The biodiesel is susceptible to oxidation when exposed to air and this process of oxidation affects the quality of fuel, mainly due to long periods of storage. Because of this, the oxidation stability has been the focus of numerous researches since it directly affects the producers, distributors and users of fuel. One of the possibilities to increase the resistance of biodiesel is the autoxidation treatment with inhibitors of oxidation. The antioxidants can be used as potential inhibitors of the effects of oxidation on the kinematic viscosity and the index of acidity of biodiesel, thereby increasing oxidative stability. This work aims to examine the efficiency of antioxidants, α-tocopherol and butylated hydroxy-toluene (BHT), added the biodiesel content of remembrance through Pressurized-Differential Scanning Calorimetry (P-DSC), Thermogravimetry (TG) and Petrology. The results showed that the use of antioxidant BHT, at the concentration of 2000ppm, increased resistance to oxidation of the biodiesel and oxidative induction time (OIT), which is a better result as antioxidant than the α-tocopherol. With the thermogravimetric analysis, it was observed that the biodiesel presented an initial decomposition temperature of lower tendency than that of oil, demonstrating to be more volatile, bearing great similarity to the diesel and being characterized as an alternative fuel. The search for new sources of environmentally friendly energy is growing every day. Among these alternative energies, biodiesel is a biofuel that has had prominence in world production. In Brazil, law 11.097, determine that all diesel sold in the country must be made by mixing diesel/biodiesel. The latter called BX, , where X represents the percent volume of biodiesel in the diesel oil, as specified by the ANP. In order to guarantee the quality of biodiesel and its mixtures, the main properties which should be controlled are the thermal and oxidative stability. These properties depend mainly of the chemical composition on the raw materials used to prepare the biodiesel. This dissertation aims to study the overall thermal and oxidative stability of biodiesel derived from cotton seed oil, sunflower oil, palm oil and beef tallow, as well as analyze the properties of the blends made from mineral oil and biodiesel in proportion B10. The main physical-chemical properties of oils and animal fat, their respective B100 and blends were determined. The samples were characterized by infrared and gas chromatography (GC). The study of thermal and oxidative stability were performed by thermogravimetry (TG), pressure differential scanning calorimeter (PDSC) and Rancimat. The obtained biodiesel samples are within the specifications established by ANP Resolution number 7/2008. In addition, all the blends and mineral diesel analyzed presented in conformed withthe ANP Regularion specifications number 15/2006. The obtained results from TG curves data indicated that the cotton biodiesel is the more stable combustible. In the kinetic study, we obtained the following order of apparent activation energy for the samples: biodiesel from palm oil > sunflower biodiesel > tallow biodiesel > cotton biodiesel. In terms of the oxidative stability, the two methods studied showed that biodiesel from palm oil is more stable then the tallow. Within the B100 samples studied only the latter were tound to be within the standard required by ANP resolution N° 7. Testing was carried out according to the EN14112. Mesoporous molecular sieves of MCM-41 type are considered as promising support for metal in the refining processes of petroleum-based materials as catalysts and adsorbents for environmental protection. In this work, mesoporous molecular sieves MCM-41 were modified with different rare earth ions (La, Eu e Yb) for the obtaining nanostrutured materials with catalytic properties. The catalysts were synthesized by the hydrothermal method at 100oC for 120 h, presenting, all the samples, in the gel of synthesis molar ratio Si/Ln = 50. The obtained materials after calcination at 500oC for 2 h were characterized by XRD, surface area BET, TG/DTG, FTIR, and hydrothermal stability at 700ºC. The XRD analysis of the catalysts indicated that the materials containing rare earth presented characteristic hexagonal structure of the mesoporous materials of the type MCM-41. The TG curves showed that the decomposition of the structural template occurs in the materials at temperatures lower than 500oC. The samples presented variations as the specific superficial area, average diameter of pores and thickness of the silica wall, as a function of the nature of the rare earth impregnated in the mesoporous material. Hydrotermal stability was evaluated through the exposition of the materials to water vapour at 700°C. The thiophene adsorptions reach a maximum at 80% of conversion and incorporation of the rare earths showed influence in the process. Adsorption capacity followed the sequence: Yb-MCM-41 < La-MCM-41 < Eu-MCM-41 < MCM-41

This work aims to study the effects of adding antioxidants, such as, α- tocopherol and BHT on the thermal and oxidative stability of biodiesel from cottonseed (B100). The Biodiesel was obtained through the methylical and ethylical routes. The main physical and chemical properties of cotton seed oil and the B100 were determined and characterized by FTIR and GC. The study of the efficiency of antioxidants, mentioned above, in concentrations of 200, 500, 1000, 1500, 2000ppm, to thermal and oxidative stability, was achieved by Thermogravimetry (TG), Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Differential Scanning Calorimetry - Hi-Pressure (P-DSC) and Rancimat. The Biodiesel obtained are within the specifications laid down by Resolution of ANP No7/2008. The results of TG curves show that the addition of both antioxidants, even in the lowest concentration, increases the thermal stability of Biodieseis. Through the DTA and DSC it was possible to study the physical and chemical transitions occurred in the process of volatilization and decomposition of the material under study. The initial time (OT) and temperature (Tp) of oxidation were determined through the P-DSC curve and they showed that the α-tocopherol has a pro-oxidant behavior for some high concentrations. The BHT showed better results than the α-tocopherol, with regard to the resistance to oxidation

The objective of this study was to analyze the oxidative stability of biodiesel from jatropha obtained from different purification processes, three wet processes with different drying (in a vacuum oven, conventional oven and in anhydrous sodium sulfate) and dry (purification with magnesium silicate adsorbent). Raw materials of different qualities (jatropha crop ancient and recent crop) were used. The Jatropha oil was extracted by mechanical extraction and refined. The Jatropha biodiesel was obtained by the transesterification reaction in ethyl route using alkaline catalysis. The biodiesel samples were characterized by analysis of water content, carbon residue, Absorption Spectroscopy in the Infrared Region and Thermogravimetry. Thermogravimetric curves of purified PUsv* PUsq* and had higher initial decomposition temperatures, indicating that the most stable, followed by samples PU* and PUSC*. Besides the sample SP* is a smaller initial temperature, confirming the sample without purification to be less thermally stable. The percentage mass loss of the purified samples showed conversion of about 98.5%. The results of analyzes carbon residue and infrared suggested that contamination by impurities is the main factor for decreased oxidative stability of biodiesel. The oxidative stability was assessed from periodic monitoring, using the techniques of Rancimat, peroxide index, acid value and Pressurized Differential Scanning Calorimetry. Samples of biodiesel from jatropha which showed better oxidative stability were of the best quality raw material and wet scrubbing: PUsq* with dry chemical, using anhydrous sodium sulfate and PUsv* with vacuum drying, which had oxidative stability 6 hours in Rancimat time 0 days, within the limits established by the Technical Regulation No. 4/2012 of the ANP, without the addition of antioxidant, suggesting that these procedures the least influence on the oxidative stability of biodiesel
