C^l-contact and C^l-right equivalences of real semi-quasihomogeneous C^l-function germs

In this paper we investigate the C ` versions of contact and right equivalences of real semi-quasihomogeneous C ` function germs, 1 ≤ ` ≤ ∞. The C ` -right equivalence implies C ` -contact equivalence for any 1 ≤ ` ≤ ∞ and in this work we show, up to certain conditions, that for semi-quasihomogeneous C ` function germs the converse is also true. As a consequence, we recover some known results about C∞-right and C∞-contact equivalences of C∞ function germs. We note that we are considering semi-quasihomogeneous function germs with no additional hypothesis of isolated singularity at zero.

Transitory second-order reciprocal connection for two surfaces in point contact

This paper investigates the instantaneous spatial higher pair to lower pair substitute-connection which is kinematically equivalent up to acceleration analysis for two smooth surfaces in point contact. The existing first-order equivalent substitute-connection consisting of a Hooke's joint (U-joint) and a spherical joint (S-joint) connected by an additional link is extended up to second-order. A two step procedure is chalked out for achieving this equivalence. First, the existing method is employed for velocity equivalence. In the second step, the two centers of substitution are obtained as a conjugate relationship involving the principal normal curvatures of the surfaces at the contact point and the screw coordinates of the instantaneous screw axis (ISA) of the first-order relative motion. Unlike the classical planar replacement, this particular substitution cannot be done by merely examining the profiles of the contacting surfaces. An investigation of contact transmission of methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus

Hand hygiene is critical in the healthcare setting and it is believed that methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), for example, is transmitted from patient to patient largely via the hands of health professionals. A study has been carried out at a large teaching hospital to estimate how often the gloves of a healthcare worker are contaminated with MRSA after contact with a colonized patient. The effectiveness of handwashing procedures to decontaminate the health professionals' hands was also investigated, together with how well different healthcare professional groups complied with handwashing procedures. The study showed that about 17% (9–25%) of contacts between a healthcare worker and a MRSA-colonized patient results in transmission of MRSA from a patient to the gloves of a healthcare worker. Different health professional groups have different rates of compliance with infection control procedures. Non-contact staff (cleaners, food services) had the shortest handwashing times. In this study, glove use compliance rates were 75% or above in all healthcare worker groups except doctors whose compliance was only 27%.
