Formal, systematic training has always been cited as a major need for the future success of hospitality operations. However, one other aspect of the job might be the development of a train-the-trainer curriculum for hospitality management students. The author studies the relationship between training preparation and training methods utilized by restaurant managers and explores this need.

The teaching of ethics in hospitality curricula is an important part of students’ overall education. Past research has indicated that college students are generally as ethically aware as their professional counterparts. The authors replicated a study by Damitio and Schmidgall (1993) in which over 700 college students were asked if they agreed with decisions in 15 hypothetical scenarios. Students were also asked if the decisions were in fact ethical. Results are reported. The authors use these results as further evidence that ethical awareness in hospitality students needs to be raised. There does not appear to be any change in students’ ethical awareness since the original study in the early 1990s. A discussion of the direction ethics education might take follows. Implications for hospitality curricula and hospitality students are analyzed. A course of action is recommended

Although in the late 1990s there was much discussion as to whether the idea of information literacy was necessary or had longevity, global interest in the phenomenon has increased rather than diminished. In the midst of all this activity, what has happened to the way in which we interpret the idea of information literacy in the last decade or more? The label of information literacy has certainly become widely applied, especially to library based programs and remains more popular in formal learning environments.Ultimately information literacy is about peoples’ experience of using information wherever they happen to be. Information literacy is about people interacting, engaging, working with information in many contexts, either individually or in community. Emerging technologies may transform the kinds of information available and how it is engaged with. Nevertheless, we continue to need to understand the experience of information use in order to support people in their information environments. We continue to need to develop programs which reflect and enhance peoples’ experiences of using information to learn in ever widening and more complex settings (Bruce, 2008; Bruce & Hughes, 2010).

Despite the realisation of the potential implications from biosimilars is relatively recent, much has already been written about raising the awareness of differences between biosimilars and originating/ reference listed (innovator) pharmaceuticals. The European Medicines Agency has led the global charge in regulating biosimilars. Regardless of sufficient similarities across international regulations, differences do exist across jurisdictions. The consideration of regulating biosimilars demands a congruent approach across all stages: pre-registration (Australian copyright protection, patent, international obligations), registration (confidential information, international regulators, safety and efficacy), post-registration (Pharmaceutical Benefit Scheme, prescriber and dispenser awareness). Our National Medicines Policy could provide the necessary congruent framework and function for national and international regulation of biosimilars. The Policy concedes that pharmaceuticals will be affected by financial policies and trade considerations, international treaty obligations, industrial policies, education policies and the need for public-private partnerships.
