Daniel Weinstock interviews Lisa Eckenwiler and Chris Macdonald -- music by General International

Daniel Weinstock, director of CRÉUM, interviews two professors that were invited to pursue their work at CRÉUM during the summer of 2008. His invitees are Lisa Eckenwiler, Associate Professor of Philosophy in the Department of Philosophy and in the Department of Health Administration and Policy at George Mason University; and Chris Macdonald, Associate Professor of Philosophy at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax. You will also hear General International, an experimental/avant-garde music band that was formed only a few months ago.

Book Review: Larissa Behrendt, Chris Cuneen and Terri Libesman, Indigenous Legal Relations in Australia (Oxford University Press, Melbourne 2009) 376pp

CCI-CCI Creative City Index 2012

The CCI-Creative City Index was commissioned in 2010 by the Beijing Academy of Science & Technology's Beijing Research Center for the Science of Science. John Hartley was asked to develop a new creative global city index. The brief was to improve on the existing indexes with a specific focus on creative industries and the sources of creative development. This report, by John Hartley, Jason Potts, Trent MacDonald, with Chris Erkunt and Carl Kufleitner, sets out the new model we have developed, which we call the CCI Creative City Index (CCI-CCI). It presents the results of a pilot application of the index to six cities: London, Cardiff, Berlin, Bremen, Melbourne and Brisbane. The index incorporates many elements from other global and creative city indexes, but also adds several new dimensions relating to creative industries scope, micro-productivity, and the economy of attention. Chris Howlett - "Flashbacks"

This is a review of Brisbane artist Christopher Howlett's 2009 exhibitions at Metro Arts and the Brisbane Town Hall. The review discusses the artist's use of 'modding' and other digital hacking strategies to explore the ethical dimensions of topics including Michael Jackson and the war in Iraq.

Total Dik - Transmedia Concept development

Total Dik! is a collaborative project between the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and Queensland Theatre Company (QTC). Total Dik! explores transmedia storytelling in live performance from concept development to delivery and builds on works, By the Way, Meet Vera Stark, (Forrester2012), Hotel Modern’s Kamp (2005) and God’s Beard (2012) that use visual art, puppetry, music and film. The project’s first iteration enabled an interrogation of the integration of media-rich elements with live performers in a theatrical environment. Performative transmedia storytelling draws on the tenets of convergent media theory developed by Jenkins (2007, 2012), Dena (2010) and Philips (2012). This exploratory work, juxtaposing transmedia storytelling techniques with live performance, draws on Samuel Becket’s challenges to theatre orthodoxy, and touches on Brechtian notions of alienation through ‘sleight-of-hand’ or processual unpacking and deconstruction during performance. Total Dik! blends a convergence of technologies, models, green screen capture, and live dimensions of performance in one narrative allowing the work’s creators to test new combinations of transmedia storytelling techniques on a traditional performance platform.

Affine Hall-Littlewood Functions for A(1)((1)) And Some Constant Term Identities of Cherednik-Macdonald-Mehta Type

We study t-analogs of string functions for integrable highest weight representations of the affine Kac-Moody algebra A(1)((1)). We obtain closed form formulas for certain t-string functions of levels 2 and 4. As corollaries, we obtain explicit identities for the corresponding affine Hall-Littlewood functions, as well as higher level generalizations of Cherednik's Macdonald and Macdonald-Mehta constant term identities.
