Guaraíras lagoon, located in Tibau do Sul in the eastern littoral of Rio Grande do Norte (Brazil), presents a permanent connection to the sea, which guarantees the occurrence of a rich biodiversity, which includes the autochthonous shrimp species Litopenaeus schmitti, Farfantepenaeus subtilis and Farfantepenaeus brasiliensis. In spite of being subject to a strong human intervention in the last decade, mainly related to the installation of shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) farms, the lagoon is still scarcely studied. The present study aims at characterizing the populations of the three autochthonous penaeid shrimp species inhabiting Guaraíras, taking into consideration their abundance and seasonal distribution in the inflow channel of Primar System of Organic Aquaculture (Tibau do Sul, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil). Twelve monthly samples were carried out from May 2005 to April 2006 with the aid of a circular cast net in the inflow channel, which is daily supplied with water from Guaraíras. Sampling months were grouped in trimesters according to the total pluviosity, thus comprising four trimesters. Water salinity was monitored twice a week and temperature values registered on a daily basis at noon, during the study period. The daily pluviosity data from the municipality of Tibau do Sul were supplied by Empresa de Pesquisa Agropecuária do Rio Grande do Norte (EMPARN). Collected shrimp were identified, weighted, measured and sexed. L. schmitti specimens (0.2 g to 17.8 g) were distributed in 1.3 g weight classes intervals. From the eighth sampling month (December 2005) onwards, males were classified into three categories, in accordance with the development of their petasm: (a) rudimentary petasm, (b) partially formed petasm, and (c) completely formed petasm. Among the ecological variables, rainfall showed the greatest dispersion (s.d.=187.74Rainfall and abundance of L. schmitti were negatively correlated (r = -0.85) whereas its abundance and water salinity were positively correlated (r = 0.63). Among 1,144 collected individuals, 1,127 were L. schmitti, 13 were F. subtilis and 4 were F. brasiliensis, which corresponded to 98.51%, 1.14% and 0.35% of the total of collected individuals. L. schmitti occurred in 100 % of all samples. Differently, the presence of F. subtilis and F. brasiliensis was restricted to 33% and 17% of the collected samples, respectively. The present study confirmed the occurrence of L. schmitti, F. brasiliensis and F. subtilis in Guaraíras. However, this lagoon seems to be primarily inhabited by juvenile Litopenaeus schmitti. The population of L. schmitti analysed showed a seasonal pattern of distribution. In general, in the months of high salinity and absence of rain, the number of individuals was higher than in the wet months. Further studies on the reproductive biology and ecology of L. schmitti, F. brasiliensis and F. subtilis may elucidate questions referring to the abundance, period, and phase of occurrence of these shrimp genera in Guaraíras. Finally, the risks associated to the establishment of L. vannamei in the lagoon provide a novel outlet for studies in this biotope

This study was accomplished with the objective of knowing the seasonal distribution of the main species of parasites causes of branchial damages to the fish from fee-fishing at Guariba, State of São Paulo. This city is situated at 21 degrees 15'22'' S, 48 degrees 18'58'' W, in altitude 595 meters. This research was conducted between April, 1997 to March, 1999. From 408 fishes examined, 29.1% of them were infested by the protozoans e metazoans. Leporinus macrocephalus showed the highest parasitism by Trichodina sp., although Piaractus mesopotamicus and Cyprinus carpio were also parasited. Piscinoodinium pillulare infestation were found in L. macrocephalus, P. mesopotamicus, C. carpio e Colossoma macropomum. Monogenetics metazoan have largely been observed in L. macrocephalus, P. mesopotamicus, C. carpio, C. macropomum e cross-bred tambacu. The incidence of this parasite was elevated in the summer for L. macrocephalus, spring for P. mesopotamicus and C. macropomum, and both seasons for cross-bred tambacu. Lernaea cyprinacea copepodes were observed in L. macrocephalus, P. mesopotamicus, C. carpio and cross- breeding tambacu, in spite of the fact that C. carpio has demonstrated high parasitism of adult form. The fish L. macrocephalus, P. mesopotamicus and C. carpio were sponged intensely by Dolops carvalhoi, in situation of high population density. Piaractus mesopotamicus was considered the species more parasited by myxosporídeos, that were also observed in L. macrocephalus and cross-breeding tambacu.

Callinectes ornatus tem sua distribuição geográfica no Atlântico ocidental: da Carolina do Norte até a Florida, golfo do México, Antilhas, Colômbia, Venezuela, Guiana e Brasil (Amapá ao Rio Grande ao Sul), ocorrendo em fundos de areia, lama e águas menos salinas podendo alcançar 75 metros de profundidade (Melo, 1996). Essa espécie tem um papel importante na teia trófica marinha, pois possui o habito carnívoro oportunista alimentando se também de detritos, assim controlando a estrutura de várias comunidades bentônicas (Haefner, 1990; Mantelatto & Christofoletti, 2001; Mantelatto et al., 2002). O presente estudo aborda as populações de C. ornatus que vivem no infralitoral não-consolidado das regiões das Ilhas do Mar Virado e das Couves, localizadas no litoral norte do Estado de São Paulo, e teve por objetivo a caracterização dos períodos de recrutamento e reprodutivos da espécie baseado na presença de jovens/adultos e fêmeas ovígeras respectivamente. Os dados utilizados nesse estudo foram coletados do Verão de 1998 á Primavera de 1999 no infralitoral não consolidado das Ilhas do Mar Virado e das Couves totalizando dois anos. As amostragens foram realizadas mensalmente, com auxilio de um barco de pesca equipado com duas redes do tipo “double-rig”. O total coletado durante os dois anos foi de 1164 animais. Os menores indivíduos machos e fêmeas encontrados na Ilha do Mar Virado apresentam os seguintes tamanhos respectivamente 22,2 mm e 17,7 mm, já na Ilha das Couves foram de 20,2 mm e de 32,3 mm. Foi obtido um total de 12 classes de tamanho, com 5,0 mm de amplitude. As duas primeiras classes foram ocupadas apenas por indivíduos jovens já as cinco ultimas principalmente por indivíduos adultos e fêmeas ovígeras. O sapo-cururuzinho, Rhinella ornata, é característico de áreas abertas próximas de mata e é registrado no Setor de Piscicultura da Fazenda Lageado (22° 50' 23S, 48° 25' 42O), em Botucatu, SP, há mais de 40 anos. O objetivo deste trabalho foi identificar o habitat ocupado pelos machos e girinos, a distribuição sazonal e a dieta da espécie neste local. O estudo foi realizado entre abril e outubro de 2012. Os machos ocuparam apenas quatro dos 15 corpos d’água disponíveis no local e reproduziram-se apenas em um. O microambiente ocupado para vocalização foi sobre vegetação flutuante, no interior do tanque e próximo às margens com inclinação suave. Apesar dos microambientes ocupados serem semelhantes a resultados anteriores de trabalhos realizados com a espécie no mesmo local, o número de corpos d’água ocupados foi menor, provavelmente devido ao intenso manejo realizado no local e ao isolamento de alguns tanques por um cercado, impedindo o acesso dos animais ao ambiente. Os girinos ocorreram em locais profundos e sem vegetação, provavelmente protegidos pelo aposematismo e pela presença de substâncias impalatáveis nesses animais. A atividade de R. ornata teve início em julho, após um pico de chuvas, e continuou até outubro. A temperatura foi o fator que mais influenciou a atividade da espécie, que não foi registrada nos dias mais frios. A dieta foi composta principalmente de presas terrestres e de tamanho reduzido, principalmente formigas e coleópteros. Os resultados indicam que as características de R. ornata permitem que a população se mantenha no local, apesar das modificações e do manejo constante dos corpos d’água neste local
