Relaciones entre la Iglesia y el Estado Español (siglos XVIII-XIX) : el conflicto ideológico-político por el control de la Instrucción pública (1759-1823)

En esta investigación se aborda el conflicto mantenido entre la Iglesia y el Estado en España, al tratar éste último de implantar una política docente de carácter ilustrado desde de la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII. . Como consecuencia de la política mencionada se reduce la influencia eclesiástica en las universidades. Al asumir el Estado competencias en materia Instrucción pública, a través de la enseñanza y conforme al pensamiento de ilustrados y de los primeros liberales, se traspasa la influencia social que se ejerce en la sociedad. Se produce una tendencia hacia la secularización de quienes imparten la enseñanza, profesores seglares, y de centralización educativa, que se consuma en la primera mitad del siglo XIX. En siglo XVIII al gobierno ilustrado presta especial atención al nivel universitario pero no se olvida de las primeras letras y del nivel secundario. En las Cortes de Cádiz se prepara el informe Quintana, que articula la Instrucción pública para todo el Estado desde la enseñanza primaria a la superior. Este informe se aprueba con importantes modificaciones en el reglamento general de Instrucción pública de 1821. Este reglamento permite la creación de centros privados en todos niveles educativos, pero la libertad de enseñanza de las corporaciones religiosas queda sujeta a la autorización del gobierno y a la uniformidad de textos y métodos con los establecidos por el Estado.. Los doceañistas, durante el Trienio liberal imponen a los exaltados unos criterios realistas tras la experiencia reaccionaria del Sexenio fernandino (1814-1820) y la libertad de cátedra, propugnada por Romero Alpuente, se supedita a los textos oficiales..

Letter from Levi Hedge to President John Kirkland, [ca. 1823]

Levi Hedge, Professor of Logic and Metaphysics, wrote Harvard president John Kirkland requesting renovations to the house which he occupied. Hedge's house was situated on North Street (now Massachusetts Avenue). He notes that the kitchen has a leaky sink, loose and unusable shelves, and is insufficiently insulated.

Organizational perspectives on the management and evaluation of large -scale multicenter controlled clinical trials: An exploratory study of participation in the beta -blocker heart attack trial

A review of literature related to appointment-keeping served as the basis for the development of an organizational paradigm for the study of appointment-keeping in the Beta-blocker Heart Attack Trial (BHAT). Features of the organizational environment, demographic characteristics of BHAT enrollees, organizational structure and processes and previous organizational performance variables were measured so as to provide exploratory information relating to the appointment-keeping behavior of 3,837 participants enrolled at thirty-two Clinical Centers. Results suggest that the social context of individual behavior is an important consideration for the understanding of patient compliance. In particular, the degree to which previous organizational performance--as measured by obtaining recruitment goals--and the ability to utilize resources had particularly strong bivariate associations with appointment-keeping. Implications for future theory development, research and practical implications were provided as was a suggestion for the development of multidisciplinary research efforts conducted within the context of Centers for the study and application of adherence behaviors. ^
