Report of the Governmental Reorganization Commission to Governor William S. Beardsley for Submission to the Fifty-fourth General Assembly,1950

This report deals with the reorganization of the government of Iowa. The Fifty-third General Assembly established and authorized this commission to examine and recommend changes in all state agencies in order to accomplish the following purposes : a reduction of expenditures and the promotion of economies; an increase in efficiency of governmental operations; a coordination and consolidation of judicial districts; a reduction of agencies by a consolidation of those having similar functions; and an elimination of overlappoing and duplicating of efforts on the part of existing agencies.

A crença em fantasmas (pessoas que morreram e regressam momentaneamente do Outro Mundo a este ou que, então, não conseguem sair deste mundo e passar para o outro) é provavelmente uma crença universal. É pelo menos, sem dúvida, uma crença atestada em numerosíssimos países de todos os continentes, desde as épocas mais recuadas até hoje em dia, quer na literatura escrita quer sobretudo na literatura oral. Trata-se de uma lenda muito estudada por autores de vários países e que foi, aliás, a primeira das chamadas lendas urbanas ou contemporâneas a ser alvo de um estudo monográfico, publicado em 1942 e 1943, por dois folcloristas norte-americanos, Richard K. Beardsley e Rosalie Hankey, com base em 79 versões recolhidas no seu país.

Governor Beardsley orders and directs the Treasurer of Iowa to accept on behalf of the State of Iowa Federal funds allocated to the State for assistance in alleviating hardship and suffering in the Missouri River and the Mississippi River Flood Disaster Areas.
