Vigilancia ambiental de casos esporádicos de legionelosis en el municipio de Córdoba (España), 2005-2010

We examined the information of legionellosis surveillance system in the municipality of Cordoba (Spain) as a preventive resource for environmental health management and describes the public health implications of sporadic cases investigations. A multidisciplinary team analyzed information on surveillance of water sites potentially contaminated by Legionella and clinical data of the patients classified like community case; mapping patient's home address using geographic information systems (GIS). Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 was identified in 31 sporadic cases. 53 suspected sources, mainly cooling towers have been investigated. In no event is managed to locate infection source even if poorly maintained systems, structural deficiencies and operational failures were apparent. The use of GIS allowed us to identify two geographic areas where cases are concentrated within one radius of less than 500 meters. An activator/repressor dual system allows tight tetracycline-regulated gene expression in budding yeast

We have developed an activator/repressor expression system for budding yeast in which tetracyclines control in opposite ways the ability of tetR-based activator and repressor molecules to bind tetO promoters. This combination allows tight expression of tetO-driven genes, both in a direct (tetracycline-repressible) and reverse (tetracycline-inducible) dual system. Ssn6 and Tup1, that are components of a general repressor complex in yeast, have been tested for their repressing properties in the dual system, using lacZ and CLN2 as reporter genes. Ssn6 gives better results and allows complete switching-off of the regulated genes, although increasing the levels of the Tup1-based repressor by expressing it from a stronger promoter improves repressing efficiency of the latter. Effector-mediated shifts between expression and non-expression conditions are rapid. The dual system here described may be useful for the functional analysis of essential genes whose conditional expression can be tightly controlled by tetracyclines.

Nuoren Suomen ryhmä eli nuorsuomalaiset oli 1800-luvulla Suomen politiikkaan ja kulttuurielämään syntynyt radikaali liike, joka ajoi voimakkaasti yhteiskunnallisia uudistuksia ja edusti kulttuurielämän uusia virtauksia. Nuoren Suomen ryhmän keskeisin foorumi oli vuonna 1889 perustettu Päivälehti, jonka joulukirjana vuodesta 1891 vuoteen 1903 ilmestynyt kirjallistaiteellinen albumi oli nimeltään Nuori Suomi. Päivälehden lakkauttamisen jälkeen Nuori Suomi joulualbumi jatkoi ilmestymistään Santeri Ivalon toimittamana 1904 - 1923, siirtyi Suomen Kirjailijaliitolle vuonna 1924 ja lopulta Eljas Erkolle vuonna 1930. Albumi ilmestyi vuoteen 1940 saakka kerran vuodessa. Sen 50 vuosikerrassa on yhteensä yli 1000 artikkelia tai kaunokirjallista teosta, sekä saman verran kuvia aikakauden merkittävimpien kuvataiteilijoiden töistä.
