"The sege of Melayne" seems to form an introduction to "Roland and Otuel." The latter poem is an English version of the French romance of "Otinel." cf. Introd., p. x. "The song of Roland" "is a fragment of the only known English version of the ... Chanson de Roland."--Introd., p. xviii.

O Centrão e o Grupo dos 32 tentam entrar em acordo em torno do maior número de propostas dos dois grupos. Já há consenso em cerca de 60% das propostas. Constituintes consideram que a união dos dois grupos favorece a qualidade do texto constitucional. Outros constituintes, independentes de grupo, também se reuniram. Pelo Regimento Interno, cada constituinte tem direito a apresentar 4 emendas e 4 destaques. Constituintes tentam representar a vontade do povo em suas emendas. 12 aposentados representando as federações estaduais de diversos estados estiveram reunidos com o constituinte Farabulini Júnior, que apresentará uma emenda proposta por eles para corrigir os salários dos aposentados. Outra emenda em relação à aposentadoria vai ser apresentada pela bancada feminina. A ideia é garantir o mesmo tempo de serviço para todas as categorias. A emenda que prevê o mandato de 5 anos para o Presidente Sarney, já tem número de assinaturas suficiente.

Freeze-dried, mucoadhesive system for vaginal delivery of the HIV microbicide, dapivirine: Optimisation by an artificial neural network

Dapivirine mucoadhesive gels and freeze-dried tablets were prepared using a 3 x 3 x 2 factorial design. An artificial neural network (ANN) with multi-layer perception was used to investigate the effect of hydroxypropyl-methylcellulose (HPMC): polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) ratio (XI), mucoadhesive concentration (X2) and delivery system (gel or freeze-dried mucoadhesive tablet, X3) on response variables; cumulative release of dapivirine at 24 h (Q(24)), mucoadhesive force (F-max) and zero-rate viscosity. Optimisation was performed by minimising the error between the experimental and predicted values of responses by ANN. The method was validated using check point analysis by preparing six formulations of gels and their corresponding freeze-dried tablets randomly selected from within the design space of contour plots. Experimental and predicted values of response variables were not significantly different (p > 0.05, two-sided paired t-test). For gels, Q(24) values were higher than their corresponding freeze-dried tablets. F-max values for freeze-dried tablets were significantly different (2-4 times greater, p > 0.05, two-sided paired t-test) compared to equivalent gets. Freeze-dried tablets having lower values for X1 and higher values for X2 components offered the best compromise between effective dapivirine release, mucoadhesion and viscosity such that increased vaginal residence time was likely to be achieved. PS1-10afx at z = 1.388: Pan-STARRS1 Discovery of a New Type of Superluminous Supernova

We present the Pan-STARRS1 discovery of PS1-10afx, a unique hydrogen-deficient superluminous supernova (SLSN) at redshift z = 1.388. The light curve peaked at z P1 = 21.7 mag, making PS1-10afx comparable to the most luminous known SNe, with Mu = -22.3 mag. Our extensive optical and near-infrared observations indicate that the bolometric light curve of PS1-10afx rose on the unusually fast timescale of ~12 days to the extraordinary peak luminosity of 4.1 × 1044 erg s-1 (M bol = -22.8 mag) and subsequently faded rapidly. Equally important, the spectral energy distribution is unusually red for an SLSN, with a color temperature of ~6800 K near maximum light, in contrast to previous hydrogen-poor SLSNe, which are bright in the ultraviolet (UV). The spectra more closely resemble those of a normal SN Ic than any known SLSN, with a photospheric velocity of ~11, 000 km s-1 and evidence for line blanketing in the rest-frame UV. Despite the fast rise, these parameters imply a very large emitting radius (gsim 5 × 1015 cm). We demonstrate that no existing theoretical model can satisfactorily explain this combination of properties: (1) a nickel-powered light curve cannot match the combination of high peak luminosity with the fast timescale; (2) models powered by the spindown energy of a rapidly rotating magnetar predict significantly hotter and faster ejecta; and (3) models invoking shock breakout through a dense circumstellar medium cannot explain the observed spectra or color evolution. The host galaxy is well detected in pre-explosion imaging with a luminosity near L*, a star formation rate of ~15 M ⊙ yr-1, and is fairly massive (~2 × 1010 M ⊙), with a stellar population age of ~108 yr, also in contrast to the young dwarf hosts of known hydrogen-poor SLSNe. PS1-10afx is distinct from known examples of SLSNe in its spectra, colors, light-curve shape, and host galaxy properties, suggesting that it resulted from a different channel than other hydrogen-poor SLSNe.

Itinerario y énfasis del ordenamiento territorial en Colombia : reflexiones al cumplir la Ley de Desarrollo Territorial, Ley 388 de 1997, una década de vigencia

El Plan de Ordenamiento Territorial es la herramienta por antonomasia de organización del territorio en Colombia. La forma como se diseñe y haga uso de él afecta de manera decisiva la capacidad de los municipios para responder a las actuales y futuras realidades urbano-rurales. En este sentido, resulta importante, e incluso necesario, reflexionar sobre la orientación que este instrumento ha tenido, con el propósito de establecer su funcionalidad y pertinencia. Un ejercicio de esta naturaleza requiere de un proceso de investigación que contemple los siguientes procesos: 1. Indagación sobre el estado del arte en la materia, lo cual implica revisar, no sólo la normatividad y las teorías que le dan sustento -principios y objetivos- al ordenamiento territorial, sino, además, los resultados obtenidos mediante las políticas aplicadas. 2. Evaluación de la implementación, los contenidos y la base teórico-conceptual de los planes. 3. Construcción de un diagnóstico integral a partir del cual se puedan realizar propuestas que mejoren la forma como se construye el territorio desde los planes de ordenamiento territorial. El presente documento forma parte de ese proceso inicial de investigación, y pretende describir a grandes rasgos la naturaleza, características y alcance de los planes territoriales, con el propósito de tener insumos para los procesos de análisis venideros. En él, se empieza haciendo un recuento histórico del ordenamiento territorial desde distintos énfasis, mostrando la evolución de las políticas estatales en la materia; se continúa con el marco jurídico en el que se sustenta hoy el ordenamiento territorial en el país; luego, se adentra en la Ley 388 de 1997 para dar a conocer su naturaleza, los principios que la rigen y las herramientas de las cuales se dispone para ordenar los territorios de los municipios; de inmediato se efectúa una revisión de la manera como estos planes se han implementado por las autoridades municipales y las dificultades y aciertos que en ese sentido han tenido. Finalmente se expone una reflexión del camino que debe seguir la investigación dado el panorama encontrado.
