Synthesis of a heparan sulfate mimetic disaccharide with a conformationally locked residue from a common intermediate

A simple mimetic of a heparan sulfate disaccharide sequence that binds to the growth factors FGF-1 and FGF-2 was synthesized by coupling a 2-azido-2-deoxy-D-glucosyl trichloroacetimidate donor with a 1,6-anhydro-2-azido-2-deoxy--D-glucose acceptor. Both the donor and acceptor were obtained from a common intermediate readily obtained from D-glucal. Molecular docking calculations showed that the predicted locations of the disaccharide sulfo groups in the binding site of FGF-1 and FGF-2 are similar to the positions observed for co-crystallized heparin-derived oligosaccharides obtained from published crystal structures.

A comparison of the driving behavior between remunerated and volunteer drivers

Introduction: Past research suggests that some groups of work-related drivers practice more safe driving behavior than others. However, no research to date has compared the driving behavior of those remunerated for their services and volunteer work-related drivers. As such, based on a theoretical discussion of the organizational and social contexts in which work-related driving occurs, this study hypothesized that volunteers would report safer driving behavior compared with remunerated drivers. Methods: One-hundred and ninety remunerated drivers and fifty-nine volunteers completed a self-reported driving behavior questionnaire. Results: Some support was found for the hypotheses, as volunteers reported more safe driving behavior than remunerated drivers. Specifically, volunteers reported less inattention and tiredness while driving compared to remunerated drivers. Conclusions: The results suggested that organizations need to formalize the roles and responsibilities of the work-related driver, and better integrate driving within the wider occupational health and safety system.

Carers' hope, wellbeing and attitudes regarding recovery

Carers are important to the recovery of their relatives with serious mental disorder however, it is unclear whether they are aware of, or endorse recent conceptualisations of recovery. This study compared carers’ and mental health workers’ recovery attitudes, and undertook multivariate predictions of carers’ wellbeing, hopefulness and recovery attitudes. Participants were 82 Australian family members caring for a relative with psychosis. Carers’ average recovery attitudes were less optimistic than for previously surveyed staff. Carers’ recovery attitudes were predicted by perceptions that their relative’s negative symptoms were more severe. Hopefulness and wellbeing was predicted by more positive and less negative caregiving experiences. Hopefulness was also predicted by less frequent contacts with their affected relative, and unexpectedly, by perceptions of more severe psychotic symptoms. Carers’ wellbeing was further predicted by having a partner and having no lifetime history of a mental disorder. Hope and wellbeing are affected by everyday challenges and positive experiences of caregiving.

Työperusteisen maahanmuuton sanasto on apuväline kaikille, jotka työssään tai muussa toiminnassaan kohtaavat maahanmuuttoon liittyviä kysymyksiä. Sanasto sisältää sekä työperusteiseen maahanmuuttoon että yleisemmin maahanmuuttoon liittyvää sanastoa. Sanasto etenee aakkosittain ja jokaiselle sanalle on laadittu lyhyt selitys sekä osoitettu tietolähde, missä kyseiseen asiaan voi perehtyä syvällisemmin. Sanaston tavoitteena on, että lukija saa perustiedot maahanmuuttoon liittyvistä yleisistä käsitteistä. Halutessaan lukija voi syventää tietämystään siirtymällä osoitettuun tietolähteeseen. Sanaston tiedot on kerätty valtionhallinnon ohjeista ja määräyksistä sekä lakiteksteistä ja muista lähteistä.

Dark brown sediment with clasts ranging from small to large in size. Clast shape ranges from angular to rounded. Lineations and comet structures are abundant throughout the sample. A few rotation structures and necking structures can also be seen in this sample. Some edge-to-edge grain crushing can also be seen in minor amounts.

Crónica sobre la creación e inauguración de la Facultad de Ciencias Políticas y Económicas, que tenía como objetivo la enseñanza de estas ramas del saber y el fomento de la investigación sobre ellas y la formación del alumnado para ser servidores de la Administración pública y economistas. Se establecía un examen de ingreso, que era igualmente válido para las Facultades de Ciencias Políticas, Económicas, Derecho y Filosofía y Letras. También se establecían los planes de estudio y grados y la relación de la facultad con otros estudios y cargos públicos y por último, se asignaban las autoridades correspondientes al frente del Decanato y el Claustro.
