Experimental results are presented for the liquid-liquid equilibrium of aqueous two-phase systems containing a synthetic polyelectrolyte (polysodium acrylate, polysodium methacrylate, and polysodium ethylene sulfonate) and polyethylene glycol at (298.2 and 323.2) K. A total of 40 phase diagrams were obtained, comprising data both of the binodal curve (obtained through cloud-point measurements) and of equilibrium compositions. The influences of temperature, the nature of the polyelectrolyte monomer unit, and the chain length of both types of polymers are analyzed and discussed.

Experimental results for the activity of water in aqueous solutions of 10 single polyelectrolytes (two polysodium acrylates, two polysodium methacrylates, three polyammonium acrylates, two polysodium ethylene sulfonates, and one polysodium styrene sulfonate) at (298.2 and 323.2) K are reported. The isopiestic method was employed in these experiments with aqueous solutions of sodium chloride as references. The polyelectrolytes were characterized by three averaged molecular masses determined by gel permeation chromatography. Furthermore, the density and the refractive index increments of the aqueous polyelectrolyte solutions are reported. Although a similar pattern for the activity of water was observed for all systems (i.e., the osmotic coefficient increases with rising polyelectrolyte concentration), the experimental results show that this property depends on the monomer type as well as on the size of the polymer chain. The temperature (varied from (298.2 to 323.2) K) has only a small influence on the activity of water.

Solubilities of three primary amides, namely, acetanilide, propanamide, and butanamide, in supercritical carbon dioxide were measured at T = (308.2, 313.2, and 323.2) K over the pressure range (9.0 to 40.0) MPa by a flow type apparatus. The solubility behavior of the three solids shows an analogous trend with a crossover region of the respective isotherms between (12 to 14) MPa. The solubility of each amide, at the same temperature and pressure, decreases from propanamide to acetanilide. Pure compound properties required for the modeling were estimated, and the solubilities of the amides were correlated by using the Soave-Redlich-Kwong cubic equation of state with an absolute average relative deviation (AARD) from (1.3 to 6.1) %.

We evaluated the protein quality of organic and transgenic soy fed to rats throughout life. Thirty female Wistar rats were divided into three groups (N = 10): organic soy group (OSG) receiving organic soy-based diet, genetically modified soy group (GMSG) receiving transgenic soy-based diet, and a control group (CG) receiving casein-based diet. All animals received water and isocaloric diet (10% protein), ad libitum for 291 days. After this, the weight of GMSG animals (290.9 ± 9.1 g) was significantly lower (P <= 0.04) than CG (323.2 ± 7.9 g). The weight of OSG (302.2 ± 8.7 g) was between that of the GMSG and the CG. Protein intake was similar for OSG (308.4 ± 6.8 g) and GMSG (301.5 ± 2.5 g), and significantly lower (P <= 0.0005) than the CG (358.4 ± 8.1 g). Growth rate was similar for all groups: OSG (0.80 ± 0.02 g), GMSG (0.81 ± 0.03 g) and CG (0.75 ± 0.02 g). In addition to providing a good protein intake and inducing less weight gain, both types of soy were utilized in a manner similar to that of casein, suggesting that the protein quality of soy is similar to that of the standard protein casein. The groups fed soy-based diet gained less weight, which may be considered to be beneficial for health. We conclude that organic and transgenic soy can be fed throughout life to rats in place of animal protein, because contain high quality protein and do not cause a marked increase in body weight.

El objetivo fue evaluar la intervención de las alertas en la prescripción de diclofenaco. Estudio observacional, comparativo, post intervención, de un antes después, en pacientes con prescripción de diclofenaco. Se evaluó la intervención de las alertas restrictivas antes y después de su implementación en los pacientes prescritos con diclofenaco y que tenían asociado un diagnóstico de riesgo cardiovascular según CIE 10 o eran mayores de 65 años. Un total de 315.135 transacciones con prescripción de diclofenaco, en 49.355 pacientes promedio mes. El 94,8% (298.674) de las transacciones fueron prescritas por médicos generales.

We report the single-crystal X-ray structure for the complex of the bisacridine bis-(9-aminooctyl(2-(dimethylaminoethyl)acridine-4-carboxamide)) with the oligonucleotide d(CGTACG)2 to a resolution of 2.4 Å. Solution studies with closed circular DNA show this compound to be a bisintercalating threading agent, but so far we have no crystallographic or NMR structural data conforming to the model of contiguous intercalation within the same duplex. Here, with the hexameric duplex d(CGTACG), the DNA is observed to undergo a terminal cytosine base exchange to yield an unusual guanine quadruplex intercalation site through which the bisacridine threads its octamethylene linker to fuse two DNA duplexes. The 4-carboxamide side-chains form anchoring hydrogen-bonding interactions with guanine O6 atoms on each side of the quadruplex. This higher-order DNA structure provides insight into an unexpected property of bisintercalating threading agents, and suggests the idea of targeting such compounds specifically at four-way DNA junctions.

Soybean oil can be deacidified by liquid-liquid extraction with ethanol. In the present paper, the liquid-liquid equilibria of systems composed of refined soybean oil, commercial linoleic acid, ethanol and water were investigated at 298.2 K. The experimental data set obtained from the present study (at 298.2 K) and the results of Mohsen-Nia et al. [1] (at 303.2 K) and Rodrigues et al. [2] (at 323.2 K) were correlated by applying the non-random two liquid (NRTL) model. The results of the present study indicated that the mutual solubility of the compounds decreased with an increase in the water content of the solvent and a decrease in the temperature of the solution. Among variables, the water content of the solvent had the strongest effect on the solubility of the components. The maximum deviation and average variance between the experimental and calculated compositions were 1.60% and 0.89%, indicating that the model could accurately predict the behavior of the compounds at different temperatures and degrees of hydration. The cyclopalladated complex [Pd(C2,N-dmba)(μ-SCN)]2, where dmba = N,N-dimethylbenzylamine, was structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. This compound crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P21/n with a = 9.578(1)Å, b = 12.323(2)Å, c = 10.279(2)Å, β = 117.03(1)°, V = 1080.7(3)Å3, Z = 2. Each Pd(II) center displays a distorted square-planar coordination environment, formed by the C and N atoms from the dmba ligand, and one set of N and S atoms from the bridging SCN groups. 2009 © The Japan Society for Analytical Chemistry.

Both latitude and mating system have been proposed to shape relationships between steroid hormone levels and social behavior. Recently it has been postulated that species with long lasting non-seasonal territorial behavior have low androgen responsiveness. Tropical damselfishes are an ideal family to test this proposition because they show a large variety in mating systems. Here we contribute to the comparative dataset by measuring the response in steroid levels after social modulation in the banded sergeant, Abudefduf septemfasciatus, a species with non-seasonal territoriality. In highly territorial and brooding males, we found low androgen and cortisol levels that did not increase after experimental intraspecific simulated territorial intrusions (STI tests). No relationship was found between the variation in steroid hormone levels and territorial responses to naturally occurring territorial intrusions. Although steroid levels were low, male A. septemfasciatus were highly territorial both to STI challenges and to fishes that passed the territory. They often chased intruders for several meters away from the territory. This indicates that during nest defence in a non-seasonal territorial damselfish species, territorial behaviors are shown independent of variation in androgen and cortisol levels.

La Tesis de Maestría explora los diferentes elementos político ideológicos sobre los que se construyen los discursos identitarios de una serie de organizaciones del llamado campo popular analizando el modo en que operan dichos elementos en las modalidades que adquiere la articulación política en el campo popular argentino. Nos interesa observar los tipos de suturas o cierres, presentes en los discursos identitarios, que se hacen a la hora de explicar y aprehender el universo de lo social en general y el de lo político en particular. Distinguimos una serie de dimensiones en torno de las cuales, las organizaciones van tomando posición y estructurando sus discursos. Desde esta perspectiva, orientada por los aportes teóricos de Ernesto Laclau y Chantal Mouffe, buscamos comparar las diferentes fijaciones de sentido que se observa en cada dimensión de cada discurso y sus derivaciones respecto a las posibilidades de desarrollar procesos de articulación política.

Buscamos avanzar en el conocimiento sobre cómo se desarrolla el movimiento de la sociedad argentina en su conjunto, analizado desde un caso particular que es el noreste del Chubut en el período que va desde la imposición de la hegemonía del capital financiero en 1989-1990 hasta el año 2005. Se pretende en esta tesis entender y conceptualizar en términos científicos cómo se mueve esa sociedad, de qué son expresión cada uno de sus conflictos, qué expresan los distintos sectores que se movilizan, qué expresan los cambios estructurales que se desarrollan, etc. Desde esta perspectiva nos interesa específicamente poder aportar al debate sobre cuáles son las opciones de plantear un proyecto alternativo de desarrollo para la provincia, la región y el país. Dentro del tema general de buscar comprender el movimiento de la sociedad, realizamos un abordaje de la realidad desde la utilización de un conocimiento acumulado y desde un recorte de esa realidad. Ese recorte lo realizamos a dos niveles. En primer lugar en términos espaciales: tomamos como base una región que denominamos el noreste de Chubut. Recortamos de la provincia del Chubut al área que tuvo el mayor crecimiento vinculado a los programas de polos de desarrollo durante las décadas del '60, '70 y parte del '80. La misma está delimitada por los actuales departamentos de Rawson y Biedma, de acuerdo a la división administrativa que toma la provincia desde 1957. En segundo lugar realizamos un recorte en términos temporales: abordamos como objeto de estudio al movimiento de la sociedad en esa región durante el período que va de 1989-1990 hasta el 2005. Consideramos que tomar este período nos permite observar el proceso de cambios que se generan con la realización de la hegemonía del capital financiero y el proceso de protestas, luchas y conflictos sociales que en el marco de estos cambios se desarrollan en la sociedad. La decisión de estudiar hasta el 2005 parte de considerar relevante comprender cómo continua el proceso después del 2001-2002. En esos años se produce la recuperación de la economía nacional, con un gran impulso para la región, lo cual genera el interés de poder precisar de qué se trata esta 'recuperación' y si estamos ante un movimiento orgánico o coyuntural de la economía. El período también nos permitió profundizar en el debate de las relaciones de fuerzas políticas, al hacer observable el período en que la burguesía logra recuperar la representación institucional como expresión legítima de la sociedad y consigue frenar la protesta social
