Effect of Oxalate Desensitizer on the Durability of Resin-Bonded Interfaces

Potassium oxalate desensitizers were previously shown to effectively reduce the immediate permeability of resin-bonded dentin. The current study evaluated whether the effect of the combined application of oxalate with etch-and-rinse adhesives interferes with the durability of resin-dentin bonds when using etch-and-rinse adhesives. The bond strength of resin-bonded dentin specimens composed of two-step or three-step etch-and-rinse adhesives (Single Bond, One-Step and Scotchbond Multi-Purpose, respectively) was tested immediately (24 hours) and after 12 months of water storage. The adhesives were used either according to the manufacturers` instructions (control groups) or after treating acid-etched dentin with a potassium oxalate gel (BisBlock, BISCO, Inc). The treatment of dentin with potassium oxalate was shown to negatively affect the baseline bond strength of resin-bonded dentin specimens, regardless of the adhesive used (p<0.05). After storage, the bond strength of the resin-bonded interfaces was significantly reduced for all the tested groups (p<0.001). Nevertheless, the rate of decreasing bond strength was significantly lower for oxalate-treated specimens than for the controls (p<0.05).

Exploring the consumer decision journey and online shoping experience through an emotional prespective

Traditional consumer decision-making models have long used quantitative research to address a link between emotional and rational behavior. However, little qualitative research has been conducted in the area of online shopping as an end-to-end experience. This study aims to provide a detailed phenomenological account of consumers’ online shopping experience and extend Mckinsey & Companys’s consumer decision journey model from an emotional perspective. Six semi-structured interviews and a focus group of nine people are analyzed using Interpretive Phenomenology Analysis and five superordinate themes emerged from the results: emotional experience, empathy and encouragement, in relation to brand preference, emotional encounters in relation to consumer satisfaction and emotional exchange and relationship with a company or brand. A model interrelating these themes is then introduced to visually represent the emotional essence of a large online purchase. This study promises to be applicable as a descriptive, and perhaps, better predictive report for understanding the complex consumer decision-making process as it relates to online consumer behavior. Future research topics are also identified.

Floods of September 15-16, 1992, in the Thompson, Weldon, and Chariton River Basins, South-Central Iowa, HR-140, 1997

Water-surface-elevation profiles and peak discharges for the floods of September 15-16, 1992, in the Thompson, Weldon, and Chariton River Basins, south-central Iowa, are presented in this report. The profiles illustrate the 1992 floods along the Thompson, Weldon, Chariton, and South Fork Chariton Rivers and along Elk Creek in the south-central Iowa counties of Adair, Clarke, Decatur, Lucas, Madison, Ringgold, Union, and Wayne. Water-surface-elevation profiles for the floods of July 4, 1981, along the Chariton River in Lucas County and along the South Fork Chariton River in Wayne County also are included in the report for comparative purposes. The September 15-16, 1992, floods are the largest known peak discharges at gaging stations Thompson River at Davis City (station number 06898000) 57,000 cubic feet per second, Weldon River near Leon (station number 06898400) 76,200 cubic feet per second, Chariton River near Chariton (station number 06903400) 37,700 cubic feet per second, and South Fork Chariton River near Promise City (station number 06903700) 70,600 cubic feet per second. The peak discharges were, respectively, 1.7, 2.6, 1.4, and 2.1 times larger than calculated 100-year recurrence-interval discharges. The report provides information on flood stages and discharges and floodflow frequencies for streamflow-gaging stations in the Thompson, Weldon, and Chariton River Basins using flood information collected through 1995. Information on temporary bench marks and reference points established in the Thompson and Weldon River Basins during 1994-95, and in the Chariton River Basin during 1983-84 and 1994-95, also is included in the report. A flood history summarizes rainfall conditions and damages for floods that occurred during 1947, 1959, 1981, 1992, and 1993.

An analysis of the methyl rotation dynamics in the So (x' A) and T (a A) states of thioacetaldehyde from Pyrolysis jet spectra /

Jet-cooled, laser-induced phosphorescence excitation spectra (LIP) of thioacetaldehyde CH3CHS, CH3CDS, CD3CHS and CD3CDS have been observed over the region 15800 - 17300 cm"^ in a continuous pyrolysis jet. The vibronic band structure of the singlet-triplet n -* n* transition were attributed to the strong coupling of the methyl torsion and aldehydic hydrogen wagging modes . The vibronic peaks have been assigned in terms of two upper electronic state (T^) vibrations; the methyl torsion mode v^g, and the aldehydic hydrogen wagging mode v^^. The electronic origin O^a^ is unequivocally assigned as follows: CH3CHS (16294.9 cm"'' ), CH3CDS (16360.9 cm"'' ), CD3CHS (16299.7 cm"^ ), and CD3CDS (16367.2 cm"'' ). To obtain structural and dynamical information about the two electronic states, potential surfaces V(e,a) for the 6 (methyl torsion) and a (hydrogen wagging) motions were generated by ab initio quantum mechanical calculations with a 6-3 IG* basis in which the structural parameters were fully relaxed. The kinetic energy coefficients BQ(a,e) , B^(a,G) , and the cross coupling term B^(a,e) , were accurately represented as functions of the two active coordinates, a and 9. The calculations reveal that the molecule adopts an eclipsed conformation for the lower Sq electronic state (a=0°,e=0"') with a barrier height to internal rotation of 541.5 cm"^ which is to be compared to 549.8 cm"^ obtained from the microwave experiment. The conformation of the upper T^ electronic state was found to be staggered (a=24 . 68° ,e=-45. 66° ) . The saddle point in the path traced out by the aldehyde wagging motion was calculated to be 175 cm"^ above the equilibrium configuration. The corresponding maxima in the path taken by methyl torsion was found to be 322 cm'\ The small amplitude normal vibrational modes were also calculated to aid in the assignment of the spectra. Torsional-wagging energy manifolds for the two states were derived from the Hamiltonian H(a,e) which was solved variationally using an extended two dimensional Fourier expansion as a basis set. A torsionalinversion band spectrum was derived from the calculated energy levels and Franck-Condon factors, and was compared with the experimental supersonic-jet spectra. Most of the anomalies which were associated with the interpretation of the observed spectrum could be accounted for by the band profiles derived from ab initio SCF calculations. A model describing the jet spectra was derived by scaling the ab initio potential functions. The global least squares fitting generates a triplet state potential which has a minimum at (a=22.38° ,e=-41.08°) . The flatter potential in the scaled model yielded excellent agreement between the observed and calculated frequency intervals.

Estudio comparativo sobre la influencia del adulto en la actividad cognitiva del niño trisómico-niño normal entre 11 meses a 18 meses.

Conocer las bases y organización de la estructura intelectual defectuosa, comparativamente con la normal. Conocer cúal es la incidencia del adulto en dicha construcción, acentuando su papel en la elaboración de la deficiencia. 3 bebés normales observados desde los 8 meses hasta los 18 meses y 3 bebés con síndrome de Down, observados desde la edad madurativa equivalente a los 11 meses. Plantea un marco teórico basado en un punto de vista constructivista e interaccionista centrado en el eje inteligencia-acción-interacción. El marco explicativo respecto al desarrollo defectuoso es el de la teoría de la deficiencia, y el del desarrollo normal se basa en la teoría piagetiana. Plantea dos hipótesis de trabajo. Elige una muestra compuesta por seis casos de manera no aleatoria. Obtiene los datos a partir de la observación sistematizada y longitudinal de los dos grupos de la muestra (normales y trisómicos). Registra su actividad espontánea resultante de jugar con material cerrado, durante 10 minutos y en presencia de dos adultos. Realiza un análisis de datos cualitativo y cuantitativo a tres niveles : intra-sujeto, intra-grupo e inter-grupo. Observación sistemática (funcional, natural, longitudinal, comparativa). Material de juego de tipo no figurativo, favorecedor de actividades lógicas. Análisis cualitativo: codificación y categorización del material y acciones. Análisis cuantitativo: coeficiente de consistencia intra-observador de Knippendorf. Análisis log-linear mediante el paquete estadístico BMDP/4F. Concordancias entre los dos grupos: necesidad del feed-back acción niño-modelo, adulto- respuesta niño. Necesidad de la adecuación del modelo adulto a la actividad del niño. Necesidad de la intersubjetividad adulto-niño. Diferencias entre grupos respecto a: la generación del proyecto de acción y la significación conferida así como a la intersubjetividad, mostrando mayor dificultad el grupo trisómico. La regulación mutua, necesaria pero difícilmente observado en el grupo de trisómicos. La intervención del adulto en la actividad cognitiva del niño es positiva o negativa en función de la existencia o no de un proyecto de acción infantil, significación compartida, intersubjetividad, adecuación mutua adulto-niño y el feed-back entre ellos.

Sincronização dos ritmos de atividade motora e temperatura central à disponibilidade de glicose em ratos

Food is essential for the survival of all animals. Its temporal availability is an important enviromental cue for the behavioral and physiological organization throughout the 24 hours of day in different species. Rats and mice, for example, show increased locomotion in the hours before food availability when it is presented in a recurrent manner, a behavior named foodanticipatory activity. Several lines of evidence indicate that this anticipation is mediated by a circadian oscillator. In this work, based on the hypothesis that pre- or post-ingestive humoral signals are involved in the entrainment process, we tested whether the daily intake of glucose is sufficient to induce anticipatory activity in rats. The rhythms of motor activity and central temperature were recorded in animals undergoing 10 days of temporal glucose (solution at 50%) or chow restriction in light-dark (LD) and constant darkness (DD). Animals under temporal glucose restriction increase motor activity and and central temperature in the hours preceding glucose availability and such aticipation is extremely similar to that observed in animals under temporal chow restriction. Glucose ingestion is, therefore, a sufficient temporal cue to induce anticipation in rats. It is possible that the increase in plasma glucose after food ingestion constitutes one of the signals involved in the behavioral entrainment process to food availability

Controle do crescimento vegetativo e floração de mangueiras cv. Kent com reguladores de crescimento vegetal

Paclobutrazol applied to the soil is used for the production management of mangoes in most of the orchards, but it presents as disadvantage the greater persistence in plant and soil. Three growth regulators (prohexadione-Ca, trinexapac-ethyl and chlormequat chloride) were foliar applied, at two dosages and compared to paclobutrazol applied as soil-drench. The experiment was conducted in the region of the Sao Francisco Valley, Petrolina, PE, from December 2007 to July 2008, in a mango orchard that has a spacing of 8 m between lines and 5 m between plants. In order to compare the effects of the treatment, data were evaluated regarding to vegetative growth (number, length and leaf number of vegetative branches) and flowering (percentage and panicles length). The combination of PBZ, soil applied with ProCa, foliar applied was the most efficient in controlling vegetative growth of branches of the mango 'Kent', but not regarding to flowering, where there were no differences between treatments.

Einführung in die Grundbegriffe der Analyse des interaktiven Sprachgebrauchs /// Arbeitspapiere / Institut für Ethnologie und Afrikastudien ; 89

Gesellschaft ist ohne interaktiven Sprachgebrauch nicht möglich. Damit gehören Analysen des Sprachgebrauchs auch zu den wichtigen Themen der Ethnologie. An welchen theoretischen Vorstellungen aber kann man sich orientieren, um solche Analysen durchzuführen? Die theoretischen Vorstellungen, die für eine solche Analyse zweckdienlich sind, versuche ich in diesem Arbeitspapier aus verschiedenen Texten der Linguistik‚ der ethnography of speaking sowie der Ethnolinguistik zusammenzuführen und Lesern damit die Möglichkeit an die Hand zu geben, zahlreiche analytische Fragen an diesen Gegenstand zu stellen. Einen schnellen Zugriff auf diese unterschiedlichen Aspekte zu ermöglichen, ist der Sinn dieses Arbeitspapiers.
