En este trabajo se aborda una cuestión central en el diseño en carga última de estructuras de hormigón armado y de fábrica: la posibilidad efectiva de que las deformaciones plásticas necesarias para verificar un estado de rotura puedan ser alcanzadas por las regiones de la estructura que deban desarrollar su capacidad última para verificar tal estado. Así, se parte de las decisiones de diseño que mediante mera estática aseguran un equilibrio de la estructura para las cargas últimas que deba resistir, pero determinando directamente el valor de las deformaciones necesarias para llegar a tal estado. Por tanto, no se acude a los teoremas de rotura sin más, sino que se formula el problema desde un punto de vista elastoplástico. Es decir, no se obvia el recorrido que la estructura deba realizar en un proceso de carga incremental monótono, de modo que las regiones no plastificadas contribuyen a coaccionar las libres deformaciones plásticas que, en la teoría de rotura, se suponen. En términos de trabajo y energía, se introduce en el balance del trabajo de las fuerzas externas y en el de la energía de deformación, aquella parte del sistema que no ha plastificado. Establecido así el balance energético como potencial del sistema es cuando la condición de estacionariedad del mismo hace determinados los campos de desplazamientos y, por tanto, el de las deformaciones plásticas también. En definitiva, se trata de un modo de verificar si la ductilidad de los diseños previstos es suficiente, y en qué medida, para verificar el estado de rotura previsto, para unas determinadas cargas impuestas. Dentro del desarrollo teórico del problema, se encuentran ciertas precisiones importantes. Entre ellas, la verificación de que el estado de rotura a que se llega de manera determinada mediante el balance energético elasto-plástico satisface las condiciones de la solución de rotura que los teoremas de carga última predicen, asegurando, por tanto, que la solución determinada -unicidad del problema elásticocoincide con el teorema de unicidad de la carga de rotura, acotando además cuál es el sistema de equilibrio y cuál es la deformada de colapso, aspectos que los teoremas de rotura no pueden asegurar, sino sólo el valor de la carga última a verificar. Otra precisión se basa en la particularidad de los casos en que el sistema presenta una superficie de rotura plana, haciendo infinitas las posibilidades de equilibrio para una misma deformada de colapso determinada, lo que está en la base de, aparentemente, poder plastificar a antojo en vigas y arcos. Desde el planteamiento anterior, se encuentra entonces que existe una condición inherente a cualquier sistema, definidas unas leyes constitutivas internas, que permite al mismo llegar al inicio del estado de rotura sin demandar deformación plástica alguna, produciéndose la plastificación simultánea de todas las regiones que hayan llegado a su solicitación de rotura. En cierto modo, se daría un colapso de apariencia frágil. En tal caso, el sistema conserva plenamente hasta el final su capacidad dúctil y tal estado actúa como representante canónico de cualquier otra solución de equilibrio que con idéntico criterio de diseño interno se prevea para tal estructura. En la medida que el diseño se acerque o aleje de la solución canónica, la demanda de ductilidad del sistema para verificar la carga última será menor o mayor. Las soluciones que se aparten en exceso de la solución canónica, no verificarán el estado de rotura previsto por falta de ductilidad: la demanda de deformación plástica de alguna región plastificada estará más allá de la capacidad de la misma, revelándose una carga de rotura por falta de ductilidad menor que la que se preveía por mero equilibrio. Para la determinación de las deformaciones plásticas de las rótulas, se ha tomado un modelo formulado mediante el Método de los Elementos de Contorno, que proporciona un campo continuo de desplazamientos -y, por ende, de deformaciones y de tensiones- incluso en presencia de fisuras en el contorno. Importante cuestión es que se formula la diferencia, nada desdeñable, de la capacidad de rotación plástica de las secciones de hormigón armado en presencia de cortante y en su ausencia. Para las rótulas de fábrica, la diferencia se establece para las condiciones de la excentricidad -asociadas al valor relativo de la compresión-, donde las diferencias entres las regiones plastificadas con esfuerzo normal relativo alto o bajo son reseñables. Por otro lado, si bien de manera un tanto secundaria, las condiciones de servicio también imponen un límite al diseño previo en carga última deseado. La plastificación lleva asociadas deformaciones considerables, sean locales como globales. Tal cosa impone que, en estado de servicio, si la plastificación de alguna región lleva asociadas fisuraciones excesivas para el ambiente del entorno, la solución sea inviable por ello. Asimismo, las deformaciones de las estructuras suponen un límite severo a las posibilidades de su diseño. Especialmente en edificación, las deformaciones activas son un factor crítico a la hora de decidirse por una u otra solución. Por tanto, al límite que se impone por razón de ductilidad, se debe añadir el que se imponga por razón de las condiciones de servicio. Del modo anterior, considerando las condiciones de ductilidad y de servicio en cada caso, se puede tasar cada decisión de diseño con la previsión de cuáles serán las consecuencias en su estado de carga última y de servicio. Es decir, conocidos los límites, podemos acotar cuáles son los diseños a priori que podrán satisfacer seguro las condiciones de ductilidad y de servicio previstas, y en qué medida. Y, en caso de no poderse satisfacer, qué correcciones debieran realizarse sobre el diseño previo para poderlas cumplir. Por último, de las consecuencias que se extraen de lo estudiado, se proponen ciertas líneas de estudio y de experimentación para poder llegar a completar o expandir de manera práctica los resultados obtenidos. ABSTRACT This work deals with a main issue for the ultimate load design in reinforced concrete and masonry structures: the actual possibility that needed yield strains to reach a ultimate state could be reached by yielded regions on the structure that should develop their ultimate capacity to fulfill such a state. Thus, some statically determined design decisions are posed as a start for prescribed ultimate loads to be counteracted, but finding out the determined value of the strains needed to reach the ultimate load state. Therefore, ultimate load theorems are not taken as they are, but a full elasto-plastic formulation point of view is used. As a result, the path the structure must develop in a monotonus increasing loading procedure is not neglected, leading to the fact that non yielded regions will restrict the supposed totally free yield strains under a pure ultimate load theory. In work and energy terms, in the overall account of external forces work and internal strain energy, those domains in the body not reaching their ultimate state are considered. Once thus established the energy balance of the system as its potential, by imposing on it the stationary condition, both displacements and yield strains appear as determined values. Consequently, what proposed is a means for verifying whether the ductility of prescribed designs is enough and the extent to which they are so, for known imposed loads. On the way for the theoretical development of the proposal, some important aspects have been found. Among these, the verification that the conditions for the ultimate state reached under the elastoplastic energy balance fulfills the conditions prescribed for the ultimate load state predicted through the ultimate load theorems, assuring, therefore, that the determinate solution -unicity of the elastic problemcoincides with the unicity ultimate load theorem, determining as well which equilibrium system and which collapse shape are linked to it, being these two last aspects unaffordable by the ultimate load theorems, that make sure only which is the value of the ultimate load leading to collapse. Another aspect is based on the particular case in which the yield surface of the system is flat -i.e. expressed under a linear expression-, turning out infinite the equilibrium possibilities for one determined collapse shape, which is the basis of, apparently, deciding at own free will the yield distribution in beams and arches. From the foresaid approach, is then found that there is an inherent condition in any system, once defined internal constitutive laws, which allows it arrive at the beginning of the ultimate state or collapse without any yield strain demand, reaching the collapse simultaneously for all regions that have come to their ultimate strength. In a certain way, it would appear to be a fragile collapse. In such a case case, the system fully keeps until the end its ductility, and such a state acts as a canonical representative of any other statically determined solution having the same internal design criteria that could be posed for the that same structure. The extent to which a design is closer to or farther from the canonical solution, the ductility demand of the system to verify the ultimate load will be higher or lower. The solutions being far in excess from the canonical solution, will not verify the ultimate state due to lack of ductility: the demand for yield strains of any yielded region will be beyond its capacity, and a shortcoming ultimate load by lack of ductility will appear, lower than the expected by mere equilibrium. For determining the yield strains of plastic hinges, a Boundary Element Method based model has been used, leading to a continuous displacement field -therefore, for strains and stresses as well- even if cracks on the boundary are present. An important aspect is that a remarkable difference is found in the rotation capacity between plastic hinges in reinforced concrete with or without shear. For masonry hinges, such difference appears when dealing with the eccentricity of axial forces -related to their relative value of compression- on the section, where differences between yield regions under high or low relative compressions are remarkable. On the other hand, although in a certain secondary manner, serviceability conditions impose limits to the previous ultimate load stated wanted too. Yield means always big strains and deformations, locally and globally. Such a thing imposes, for serviceability states, that if a yielded region is associated with too large cracking for the environmental conditions, the predicted design will be unsuitable due to this. Furthermore, displacements must be restricted under certain severe limits that restrain the possibilities for a free design. Especially in building structures, active displacements are a critical factor when chosing one or another solution. Then, to the limits due to ductility reasons, other limits dealing with serviceability conditions shoud be added. In the foresaid way, both considering ductility and serviceability conditions in every case, the results for ultimate load and serviceability to which every design decision will lead can be bounded. This means that, once the limits are known, it is possible to bound which a priori designs will fulfill for sure the prescribed ductility and serviceability conditions, and the extent to wich they will be fulfilled, And, in case they were not, which corrections must be performed in the previous design so that it will. Finally, from the consequences derived through what studied, several study and experimental fields are proposed, in order to achieve a completeness and practical expansion of the obtained results.

O presente trabalho trata do estudo do comportamento de chumbadores grauteados inseridos em concreto com fibras de aço em ligações viga-pilar de estruturas de concreto pré-moldado. Este estudo é importante para se entender e poder quantificar a influência da rigidez deste componente no comportamento de ligações semirrígidas de estruturas de concreto pré-moldado. O objetivo do trabalho é estudar o mecanismo do chumbador no concreto com fibras de aço em ensaios específicos e avaliar também o comportamento de uma ligação viga-pilar de concreto pré-moldado utilizando estas fibras no consolo e no dente da viga. Nesta pesquisa foi realizado um programa experimental no Laboratório de Estruturas da EESC, uma análise numérica com o emprego do software DIANA® e uma comparação com formulações analíticas existentes para o cálculo da força última destes componentes. Foram ensaiados nove modelos experimentais para avaliar especificamente o mecanismo resistente do chumbador, variando-se os diâmetros das barras, sua inclinação e a porcentagem de fibras de aço no concreto. Além destes modelos, foi realizado ensaio de uma ligação viga-pilar de concreto pré-moldado para avaliar a rigidez da ligação com chumbador inserido em concreto com fibras de aço. Nos ensaios experimentais dos chumbadores observou-se que modelos com concreto com fibras de aço apresentam rigidez até 25% maior se comparado ao modelo com concreto convencional. Verificou-se que o graute utilizado para solidarizar os chumbadores exerce significativa influência na capacidade última do modelo, podendo diminuir em cerca de 30% a capacidade de carga. A ligação viga-pilar de concreto pré-moldado utilizando concreto com fibras de aço no consolo e no dente da viga se comportou de maneira satisfatória, não apresentando fissuração na interface dos diferentes concretos. Na comparação dos modelos ensaiados com as formulações teóricas extraídas de trabalhos de referência verificou-se que, para os modelos específicos de chumbador, a formulação existente é representativa. Para a ligação viga-pilar, alguns ajustes na formulação analítica se fizeram necessários para considerações de efeitos de grupo e de borda observados e decorrentes da utilização de dois chumbadores na ligação proposta neste trabalho.

Nos dias atuais, um dos maiores problemas de uma central dosadora de concreto são as sobras de resíduos de concretos que retornam nos caminhões, das obras gerando lamas decantadas com pH elevado caracterizando-a como resíduo perigoso e representando gastos elevados com destinação. O objetivo do presente trabalho visa estudar em detalhes a composição da lama residual do processo de fabricação do concreto excluindo o agregado graúdo, verificando qual é a influência de sua adição no concreto. Com isso, pretende-se estudar algumas formas de tratamento e viabilizar economicamente o seu reaproveitamento em substituição ao agregado miúdo. Para esse estudo foram coletadas duas amostras desse material cimentício, sendo uma coletada diretamente do tanque de decantação e a segunda coletada da própria lavagem dos caminhões betoneiras. Elas foram submetidas a ensaios de caracterização como: análise termogravimétrica (TG), granulometria a laser e calorimetria e ensaios de concreto fresco (reologia e abatimento) e concreto endurecido. Para a viabilização econômica foi realizado um estudo de caso em três centrais dosadoras de concreto, afim de identificar perdas de materiais, custos de destinação e custo variável na fabricação de concreto. Os resultados mostraram que a forma de coleta do material cimentício influencia na finura do material conforme ensaio de granulometria e densidade aparente, mas não foi possível obter cimento anidro. A possibilidade de utilização da lama em concretos foi possível com ajuda de aditivos superplastificantes, mas para a viabilização economicamente viável a cadeia produtiva do concreto estudou-se um teor ótimo de substituição da lama pelo agregado miúdo.

The generation of industrial wastes has been increased more and more in recent decades, motivating studies about a correct sustainable allocation and that also represents advantages for their generators. In this context, are included two companies of cleaning products niche, located in São José do Mipibu/RN, that produces industrial sludge at a sewage treatment plant, and that is the main approach of this research. Given this, it was studied the incorporation potentiality of this sludge as a mineral addition in cement matrix for concrete production due it high capacity of wastes immobilization inside this material, which are subsequently used in the company for making precast articles. Were added different sludge concentrations (5, 10, 15 and 20%) in a common trait (1: 2: 3), and evaluated their techniques and microstructural implications via workability test in fresh state and compressive strength, full porosity and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) in the hardened state. The results demonstrated the feasibility of the process both from a technical and environmental view as economical. All concretes produced with residue showed an increase of workability given the nature of the waste that had surfactants substances capable of adsorbing tiny particles of air into the batter. However, for all concentrations were obtained lower compressive resistances than standard concrete, with a reduction of 39% for samples with 20% of sludge. This are attributed mainly to an increase of porosity in the transition zone of these material, resulting from increased formation of ettringite at the detriment to the formation of other compounds, but which still allows the use of these for the manufacture of concrete articles with non-structural nature, such as precast floor. In addition, the water absorption and void ratio increased slightly for all samples, except the concrete with 20% of waste that has a reduction for the last parameter. Given this context, the recommended maximum level is 20%, constituting a significant proportion and able to allocate sustainably all waste generated in the industry.

The northeastern region of Brazil has a large number of wells producing oil using a method of secondary recovery steam injection, since the oil produced in this region is essentially viscous. This recovery method puts the cement / coating on thermal cycling, due to the difference in coefficient of thermal expansion between cement and metal coating causes the appearance of cracks at this interface, allowing the passage of the annular fluid, which is associated with serious risk socioeconomic and environmental. In view of these cracks, a correction operation is required, resulting in more costs and temporary halt of production of the well. Alternatively, the oil industry has developed technology for adding new materials in cement pastes, oil well, providing high ductility and low density in order to withstand the thermo-mechanical loads generated by the injection of water vapor. In this context, vermiculite, a clay mineral found in abundance in Brazil has been applied in its expanded form in the construction industry for the manufacture of lightweight concrete with excellent insulation and noise due to its high melting point and the presence of air in their layers lamellar. Therefore, the vermiculite is used for the purpose of providing low-density cement paste and withstand high temperatures caused by steam injection. Thus, the present study compared the default folder containing cement and water with the folders with 6%, 8% and 10% vermiculite micron conducting tests of free water, rheology and compressive strength where it obtained the concentration of 8 % with the best results. Subsequently, the selected concentration, was compared with the results recommended by the API standard tests of filtered and stability. And finally, analyzed the results from tests of specific gravity and time of thickening. Before the study we were able to make a folder with a low density that can be used in cementing oil well in order to withstand the thermo-mechanical loads generated by steam injection

This work addresses the production of lightweight concrete building elements, such as plates, prefabricated slabs for pre-molded and panels of fencing, presenting a singular concrete: the Lightweight Concrete, with special properties such low density and good strength, by means of the joint use of industrial waste of thermosetting unsaturated polyesters and biodegradable foaming agent, named Polymeric Lightweight Concrete. This study covered various features of the materials used in the composition of the Polymeric Lightweight Concrete, using a planning of factorial design 23, aiming at studying of the strength, production, dosage processes, characterization of mechanical properties and microstructural analysis of the transition zone between the light artificial aggregate and the matrix of cement. The results of the mechanical strength tests were analyzed using a computational statistics tool (Statistica software) to understand the behavior and obtain the ideal quantity of each material used in the formula of the Polymeric Lightweight Concrete. The definition of the ideal formula has the purpose of obtaining a material with the lowest possible dry density and resistance to compression in accordance with NBR 12.646/92 (≥ 2.5 MPa after 28 days). In the microstructural characterization by scanning electron microscopy it was observed an influence of the materials in the process of cement hydration, showing good interaction between the wrinkled face of the residue of unsaturated polyesters thermosetting and putty and, consequently, the final strength. The attaining of an ideal formula, given the Brazilian standards, the experimental results obtained in the characterization and comparison of these results with conventional materials, confirmed that the developed Polymeric Lightweight Concrete is suitable for the production of building elements that are advantageous for construction

Due to the occurrence of diseases in the use of structural reinforcements in composites, with presentation of concrete blanket detachment, has been identified the need to evaluate the performance of concrete reinforced with glass fiber. This study aims to evaluate these concretes by means of testing methodologies, using concrete with low resistance with structural reinforcement for confinement by preimpregnated glass fiber and traditional fiberglass blanket. The first stage of work was the development of methodologies for analysis, opting for four types, such as the acoustic survey, strength to compressive, the pull-off and ultrasound. Next, tests were carried out using the four selected methodologies in 30 of proof-of-specimens by 5x10 cm, 15 were reinforced with the traditional fiberglass blanket with 5specimens exposed to test a marine environment of marine coastline of Natal-RN and 15 were reinforced with a pre-impregnated glass fiber blanket, as well as 5specimens exposed to a test environment of the marine coastline of Natal-RN. After conducting the acoustic survey, it has been verified a lack of delaminating and air bubbles in the samples, confirming the absence of gross shortcomings in the implementation of the ribs both the traditional fiberglass blanket and in the preimpregnated fiber glass blanket. After carrying out methods of pull-off and compressive strengthening test it was observed that the reinforced proof-bodies with pre-impregnated glass blanket showed maximum stresses higher than the traditional fiberglass blanket; consequently a greater grip with the formation of a smaller area of . fracture, unlike traditional glass mat, which showed lower maximum stresses, with a greater area of fracture. It was also found that the traditional fiberglass blanket presented detachment of blanket-concrete interface, unlike the pre-impregnated fiberglass blanket, which showed a better grip on the blanket-concrete interface. In the trial of ultrasound there was no presence of cracks in the blanket-concrete interface, yielding to both blankets good compactness of the concrete. The development of activities the of oil and gas sector have promoted the search for suitable materials for cementing oil wells. In the state of the Rio Grande do Norte, the integrity of the cement sheath tends to be impaired during steam injection, a procedure necessary to increase oil recovery in reservoirs with low-viscosity oil. The geopolymer is a material that can be used as alternative cement, since it has been used in the production of fire-resistant components, building structures, and for the control of toxic or radioactive residues. Geopolymers result from condensation polymer alkali aluminosilicates and silicates resulting three-dimensional polymeric structures. They are produced in a manner different from that of Portland cement, which is made an activating solution that is mixed with geopolymer precursor. Among the few works studied allowed us to conclude that the pastes prepared with metakaolin as precursor showed better performance of its properties. Several studies show the addition of waste clay as a means of reducing cost and improving end of the folder properties. On this basis, the goal is to study the influence of the addition of ceramic waste in geopolymer paste. To develop the study of rheology tests were carried out, filtered, thickening time, compressive strength, free water, specific gravity and permeability, according to the American Pretoleum Institute (API). The results for all formulations studied show that the folders have high mechanical strength to a light paste; low filtrate volume, absence of free water, very low permeability, slurry, consistent with a light paste, and thickening time low that can be corrected with the use of a retardant handle. For morphological characterization, microstructural, physical, chemical and thermal tests were carried out by XRD, MEV, DTA, TG, FTIR. In the trial of XRD, it was found that geopolymer is an amorphous material, with a peak of crystalline kaolinite. In tests of TG / DTA, revealed the presence of a significant event, which represents the mass loss related to water, and also observed the reduction of weight loss by increasing the concentration of ceramic waste. In the trial of MEV, we found a uniform matrix without the presence of other phases. In the trial of FT-IR, we observed the presence of the band related to water. From all results it was determined that the optimum concentration range of use is between 2.5 and 5% of waste ceramic

Researches have shown that the introduction of rubber in concrete improves the features of its deformability, as well as contributes to environmental disposal of waste generated in the tire retreading process. Furthermore, there is a high availability of limestone within RN and CE country. Ignorance about this stone, does not allow its wide use as aggregate, leaving, this abundant supply idle. A composite of limestone gravel, with proportions of tire rubber waste which could be used as concrete would be an alternative to concrete for low applications. Therefore, this research aims to evaluate the characteristics of concrete containing limestone gravel and proportions of little aggregate replacement (sand) by tire rubber waste. To this goal, the material components of the concrete were characterized, concrete specimens with limestone gravel were made, from the dash 1.0: 2.5: 3.5, varying the water/cement ratio, and inserting a commercial plasticizer, without a proportion of residue, known as reference. From this, concrete with and without the presence of the additive in the same proportions were chosen, as well as these with the use of granite gravel, for being the most used. Selected the references, to these, replacements of little aggregate (sand) were added replaced by rubber waste from the tire retreading process, treated with 1M NaOH in proportions from 5.0 to 20.0 % by mass, cured and exposed to the semiarid environment. The results indicate the possibility of using limestone gravel in the concrete composition with workability correction using plasticizer. There was a decrease in the mechanical properties of the concrete with increments of waste rubber, but there is an improvement in toughness and deformability of the composite, which makes it interesting for the construction of non-structural concrete floors, as well as, the rubber waste delayed the hardening process, continuing to gain resistance after 28 days

In developing countries such as Brazil, the wastes generated in the decanters and filters of water treatment plants are discharged directly into the same rivers and streams that supply water for treatment. Another environmental problem is the unregulated discard of wood wastes. The lumber and wood products industry generates large quantities of this waste, from logging to the manufacture of the end product. Brazil has few biomass plants and therefore only a minor part of these wastes are reused. This paper presents the results of the first study involving a novel scientific and technological approach to evaluate the possibility of combining these two types of wastes in the production of a light-weight composite for concrete. The concrete produced with cement:sand:composite:water mass ratios of 1:2.5:0.67:0.6 displayed an axial compressive strength of 11.1 MPa, a compressive and diametral tensile strength of 1.2 MPa, water absorption of 8.8%, and a specific mass of 1.847 kg/m(3). The mechanical properties obtained with this concrete render it suitable for application in non-structural elements. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

The main objective of this study was to evaluate the potential application of a lightweight concrete produced with lightweight coarse aggregate made of the water treatment sludge and sawdust (lightweight composite), by determining the thermal properties and possible environmental impact of future residue of this concrete. Two types of concrete were prepared: concrete produced with the lightweight composite dosed with cement/sand/composite/water in a mass ratio of 1:2.5:0.67:0.6 and conventional concrete dosed with cement/sand/crushed stone/water in a mass ratio of 1:4.8:5.8:0.8. The thermal properties were determined by the hot wire parallel technique. The possible environmental impact was measured using the procedures and guidelines of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards - ABNT. The concrete produced with the lightweight composite presented a 23% lower thermal conductivity than the conventional concrete. The concrete produced with the lightweight composite presented a set of thermal properties suitable for the application of this concrete in non-structural sealing elements. The concentration of aluminum in the solubilized extract of the concrete produced with the lightweight composite was much lower than the concentration of aluminum in the water treatment sludge, confirming the possible reduction of environmental impact of this composite for use in concrete. Although use of high-strength reinforced concrete (RC) jackets has become common practice worldwide, there are still two unresolved issues regarding the contribution of the original concrete and the effects of existing loads. Twelve RC-jacketed columns were tested with and without preloading under uniaxial compression. Tests showed the entire core to contribute to the capacity of the jacketed column, as long as adequate confinement is provided. Also, preloading does not adversely affect the capacity of the jacketed column, while it may increase its deformability, especially in square sections. Transverse reinforcement in the jacket directly improves ductility of the strengthened column, especially in circular sections.

The behaviour of reinforced concrete members is affected by the slipping of steel bars inserted in the concrete matrix. A tension-stiffening effect and crack evolution occur from the beginning of slipping; thus, the assessment of those phenomena requires the introduction of a bond-slip interaction model. This work presents a beam-layered model, including the constitutive relationships of materials and their interaction, according to the CEB-FIP Model Code 1990. To eliminate the finite element sub-division procedure, a continuous slip function is imposed into the element domain. The results are continuous descriptions of bond stress in the steel-concrete interface, as well as concrete and steel stresses along the element. (C) 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

A way of coupling digital image correlation (to measure displacement fields) and boundary element method (to compute displacements and tractions along a crack surface) is presented herein. It allows for the identification of Young`s modulus and fracture parameters associated with a cohesive model. This procedure is illustrated to analyze the latter for an ordinary concrete in a three-point bend test on a notched beam. In view of measurement uncertainties, the results are deemed trustworthy thanks to the fact that numerous measurement points are accessible and used as entries to the identification procedure.
