Science 2.0 : The use of social networking in research.

REBIUN study on Science 2.0 and social web applications for research. There are three categories: share research, share resources and share results. Describes the applications and selected resources of interest: scientific social networks, scientific databases, research platforms, surveys, concept maps, file sharing, bibliographic management, social bookmarking, citation indexes, blogs and wikis, science news, open access. The services are evaluated and the report describes his interest to libraries.

Pla estratègic de la Biblioteca : 2008-2012

La Biblioteca Virtual de la UOC ha d'arribar a ser un centre de recursos especialitzat, que englobi els continguts docents i de recerca generats a la Universitat i la millor selecció de documents digitals i físics de les matèries relacionades amb les línies de recerca definides per l'institut de recerca de la mateixa Universitat, esdevingui una eina imprescindible de les activitats de docència, recerca, gestió i formació contínua i s'hi integri.

Faculty-librarians collaboration in an e-learning experience : resources management and training in Open University of Catalonia (UOC)

The traditional model of learning based on knowledge transfer doesn't promote the acquisition of information-related competencies and development of autonomous learning. More needs to be done to embrace learner-centred approaches, based on constructivism, collaboration and co-operation. This new learning paradigm is aligned with the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) requirements. In this sense, a learning experience based in faculty' librarian collaboration was seen as the best option for promoting student engagement and also a way to increase information-related competences in Open University of Catalonia (UOC) academic context. This case study outlines the benefits of teacher-librarian collaboration in terms of pedagogy innovation, resources management and introduction of open educational resources (OER) in virtual classrooms, Information literacy (IL) training and use of 2.0 tools in teaching. Our faculty-librarian's collaboration aims to provide an example of technology-enhanced learning and demonstrate how working together improves the quality and relevance of educational resources in UOC's virtual classrooms. Under this new approach, while teachers change their role from instructors to facilitators of the learning process and extend their reach to students, libraries acquire an important presence in the academic learning communities.

Implementación de una herramienta de metabúsqueda : MetaLib y SFX

L'article presenta les característiques i funcionalitats principals de les eines MetaLib i SFX, programaris per a la gestió i accés als recursos electrònics. S'analitzen els programaris citant els diferents tipus de funcionalitats, i la gestió i el manteniment. El procés s'emmarca en l'experiència de la Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, membre del CBUC, i se n'expliquen la configuració, els reptes i les dificultats que es van produir durant la implementació dels sistemes.

L'evolució de la biblioteca de la UOC : perspectives de futur

La Biblioteca de la Universitat Oberta de Catalunya ofereix els seus serveis de manera virtual des de la seva creació, l'any 1995. Per això, l'aposta per les noves tecnologies del moment ha estat una constant durant aquests anys. A continuació, a través d'una breu menció a l'evolució històrica, es comenten els serveis i recursos oferts de forma pionera a nivell de biblioteques universitàries. S'analitzen els aspectes més destacables pel que fa als serveis, la gestió de la col·lecció, la formació, i la relació amb la Universitat, en el moment actual. Per concloure, es fa una anàlisi dels principals reptes de futur que la Biblioteca espera afrontar en els propers anys, tenint com a referent principal els usuaris i les innovacions tecnològiques que permetin donar resposta a les noves necessitats que vagin sorgint. Tot això, per continuar sent capdavantera en l'àmbit de les biblioteques virtuals.

Adaptando Metalib al usuario : la experiencia de la UOC

The implementation of Metalib in UOC's Library was framed within a project centred on the end user. For the adaptation of Metalib to the users' needs and search behaviour, we carried out three tests: - One with students, conducted by a consulting company; - A second one with teachers, carried out by the Library; - The third, with teachers and staff, also was carried out by the Library, after having made some changes resulting from the first and second tests. The tests, made with the software Morae, underlined a number of difficulties to understand the concepts related to metasearching. The tests also showed difficulties in navigating and in managing search results. All the information gathered was used to improve navigation through the interface. The presentation tells about the tests' methodology, the conclusions reached through this experience, and the decisions finally taken by the Library to improve the Metalib interface.

La cerca única, o com fer fàcil el camí a l'usuari

This paper presents a reflection on the need for libraries to think about how to facilitate access to the documentary sources they manage.As the number of resources available in electronic form increases, libraries are in the need to provide a simple and usable search tool that allows integrating the contents of the various information management systems they give access to.To define user expectations to the search interface, some of the features that they are accustomed to use in their requests for information on the Internet have been included.The technologies that allow the discovery layer implementation as a search tool that integrates the various information systems of the library are presented next. And below are some examples of implementations that work in line with the integration of various information sources into a single search engine, as models to consider for implementing a system of this kind.The purpose of it all is to present a state of the art of some cases of operational deployments as a starting point for any organization interested in improving access it offers to its resources on the basis of references study.

Nou web de la Biblioteca Virtual: anàlisi del nou web de la Biblioteca de la UOC

Informe de l'anàlisi realitzat sobre el nou web de la Biblioteca Virtual de la UOC, mitjançant el mètode de test amb usuaris, per tal d'avaluar el grau d'usabilitat de la nova eina. L'anàlisi s'emmarca en el procés de disseny centrat en l'usuari que s'ha utilitzat per al seu disseny.
