The Internet of Things (IoT) is a concept that can foster the emergence of innovative applications. In order to minimize parentss concerns about their childrens safety, this paper presents the design of a smart Internet of Things system for identifying dangerous situations. The system will be based on real time collection and analysis of physiological signals monitored by non-invasive and non-intrusive sensors, Frequency IDentification (RFID) tags and a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine when a child is in danger. The assumption of a state of danger is made taking into account the validation of a certain number of biometric reactions to some specific situations and according to a self-learning algorithm developed for this architecture. The results of the analysis of data collected and the location of the child will be able in real time to childs care holders in a web application.

La metodologa actual de diseo de celdas analgicas embebidas se basa en una tecnologa CMOS fija, no teniendo dichos mdulos caractersticas de reutilizacin y de migracin hacia otras tecnologas. Para avanzar a un mayor nivel de productividad en el diseo se necesita un cambio de paradigma. Este cambio en la metodologa necesita reducir tiempo y esfuerzo en el desarrollo, incrementar la predictibilidad y reducir el riesgo involucrado en el diseo y la fabricacin de complejos sistemas en un chip (SOC). Las celdas digitales embebidas se han aplicado al diseo VLSI digital debido a que la sntesis a travs de lenguajes de descripcin de hardware (HDL) permite mapear complejos algoritmos en una descripcin sintctica digital, la cual puede luego ser automticamente colocada e interconectada (place&route). Sin embargo, dada la falta de automatizacin del diseo electrnico en el dominio analgico, como as tambin por factores como el ruido, el corrimiento y falta de apareamiento, el uso de los circuitos analgicos ha sido muy bajo en la medida de lo posible, por lo que las celdas analgicas embebidas son ahora un cuello de botella en el diseo de SOC. Por lo expuesto, en el proyecto que se propone se planea disear celdas analgicas embebidas con caractersticas de: bajo consumo, reutilizacin, bajo costo y alta performance para satisfacer el notable crecimiento del mercado de los sistemas portables alimentados por batera y el de sistemas de identificacin remotamente energizados (RFID). Conjuntamente con el rea de Comunicaciones, se propone un generador de tensin de alimentacin a partir de una seal de RF.

El proyecto inicialmente se denomin Anlisis y optimizacin del radio enlace en un sistema RFID. A medida que el mismo fue avanzando, principalmente en el desarrollo de 2 planes de doctorado (Proyectos de Tesis Doctoral de Juan Castagnola y Agustn Laprovitta), los objetivos particulares fueron ajustndose a cada uno de estos trabajos. As pues, los nuevos objetivos planteados para el proyecto son: a) Estudiar, generar modelos, simular e implementar nuevas configuraciones en la etapas de recepcin de los transceptores, para lograr mayor alcance con menos potencia; b) Desarrollar metodologas de test para sistemas de redes inalmbricas de sensores, con nfasis en nodos activos y pasivos diseados con circuitos analgicos y digitales configurables y componentes comerciales; c) Proponer estrategias de test de bajo consumo y alto desempeo focalizadas en las secciones analgicas, de conversin y digitales configurables del nodo. Adems de la realizacin de los trabajos de tesis doctoral mencionados, en el grupo de investigacin se encuentran alumnos de la carrera de Ingeniera Electrnica realizando sus trabajos finales de grado, los mismos se orientaron a trabajos de investigacin e implementacin en el rea de las redes inalmbricas de sensores remotos. Los trabajos realizados en el invernadero y en el secadero de embutidos, estn orientados tambin a esta misma temtica. Por estos motivos se decidi el cambio en la denominacin del proyecto, por: Anlisis y optimizacin de redes inalmbricas de sensores remotos.

Els mtodes clssics es basen en una etiqueta de triatge de paper on el personal demergncies anota lestat del pacient juntament amb una quantitat reduda dinformaci. En aquest projecte descrivim lanlisi, disseny i implementaci dinterfcies grfiques per dispositius mbils pel protocol de triatge START, per ser utilitzades pels equips demergncia. Els components del projecte inclouen un dispositiu porttil Nokia N810 amb connexi GPS, i IDBlue, un lector detiquetes RFID per Bluetooth.

En situacions demergncia, on hi ha en perill un gran nombre de vides humanes, s especialment important ls de triatge per a organitzar els recursos disponibles per tal de poder classificar i atendre el mxim nombre de pacients en un temps limitat. Aquest projecte presenta lanlisi, disseny i implementaci dun sistema de triatge electrnic mitjanant un iPhone que guarda en un agent mbil les dades del pacient, els seus signes vitals, un tag RFID que es colloca al pacient per a identificar-lo i seva ubicaci. Desprs dhaver realitzat una srie de proves sobre liMABETT sha demostrat que funciona correctament i compleix els objectius proposats.

Es presenten dos mtodes de detecci de senyals de trnsit que tenen la funci de demostrar que, per mitj de solucions tecnolgiques, s possible fer ms segura la circulaci en carretera. Aquest projecte es limita a explicar de manera terica en qu es fonamenta la tecnologia de radiofreqncia i la tecnologia de radiofreqncia amb identificador (RFID). Seguidament, sexpliquen les caracterstiques de la tecnologia emprada per a desenvolupar-lo (ZigBee), i es mostra un dels possible codis que permet detectar un tag programat prviament amb un senyal. Per acabar, es presenten diferents mtodes de detecci de formes a travs dimatges capturades a temps real.

Este trabajo propone un sistema basado en terminales mviles que permite a las personas con deficiencias visuales la localizacin e identificacin de objetos previamente seleccionados, en estantes o lineales. Para ello el sistema combina comunicaciones en Campo Cercano (NFC), mediante la lectura de etiquetas pasivas de Identificacin de Radio-Frecuencia (RFID) para la localizacin de los productos objetivos en el lineal, y la localizacin y decodificacin de cdigos de barras para su identificacin.

This manuscript reports on a project to examine the feasibility of extensive radio frequency identification (RFID) tagging to determine product provenance in the meat production industry. The investigators examined existing technologies and meat production processes as well as emerging technologies in RFID tagging to assess the potential of RFID technologies for provenance assurance. While RFID technologies hold tremendous promise for traceability, the current state of the technology and production process creates challenges for effectively creating full traceability. However, RFID holds tremendous potential for improving processing throughput, which will help make RFIDbased traceability more attractive for adoption by meat processors.

Tm insinrity tehtiin Helsingin ammattikorkeakoululle kesn 2006 ja lukuvuoden 2006 - 2007 aikana. Tyn tarkoituksena oli yhdist MTS2-kokoonpanolinjaston kuljetinjrjestelmn erilliset toimilaite- ja anturivylt yhdeksi hallittavaksi kokonaisuudeksi sek ottaa kyttn RFID-saattomuistit kuljetinpalettien ohjauksessa. Tyss tutustuttiin teollisuudessa kytettvien kenttvylien eri tasoihin, nihin liitettviin laitteisiin sek vylien toisiinsa liittmiseen. Linjaston alkuperist fyysist rakennetta muutettiin niin, ett se mahdollistaa kahden erillisen ohjausjrjestelmn kytn. AS-ivyln asennettiin IFM DTA 100 -saattomuistinlukijat ja paletteihin RFID-tunnisteet. Tyss onnistuttiin osoittamaan, ett kahden rinnakkaisen ohjauksen luominen linjastoon on mahdollista. Toteutuksessa joudutaan kumminkin tilanteisiin, joissa pit tehd kompromisseja toisen ohjausjrjestelmn toiminnan yksinkertaisuuden kustannuksella.

O presente trabalho prope-se superar o problema do funcionamento da tecnologia RFID num meio em presena de lquidos. Desta forma procedeu-se ao desenvolvimento de um rtulo que visa ser aplicado em garrafas de vinho ou champanhe. Incorporar RFID em rtulos permite maior velocidade e robustez na identificao do produto, sendo o principal interesse a sua versatilidade que permitir associar diferentes funcionalidades. Para construir as antenas das tags foi necessrio primeiramente estudar as caratersticas do meio dieltrico, tendo sido necessrio para isso, desenvolver um mtodo de caraterizao dieltrica. Estudou-se o papel e o vidro usando um mtodo baseado em linhas de transmisso. Uma vez estudadas as caratersticas dieltricas, foram dimensionadas e produzidas diferentes antenas, nomeadamente o rtulo com a presena de uma garrafa com gua.

Comptar amb sistemes sofisticats de gesti o programes ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) no s suficient per a les organitzacions. Per a qu aquests recursos donin resultats adequats i actualitzats, la informaci dentrada ha de llegir-se de forma automtica, per aconseguir estalviar en recursos, eliminaci derrors i assegurar el compliment de la qualitat. Per aquest motiu s important comptar amb eines i serveis didentificaci automtica i collecci de dades. Els principals objectius a assolir (a partir de la introducci al lector de la importncia dels sistemes logstics didentificaci en un entorn global dalta competitivitat), sn conixer i comprendre el funcionament de les tres principals tecnologies existents al mercat (codis de barres lineals, codis de barres bidimensionals i sistemes RFID), veure en quin estat dimplantaci es troba cadascuna i les seves principals aplicacions. Un cop realitzat aquest primer estudi es pretn comparar les tres tecnologies per o poder obtenir perspectives de futur en lmbit de lautoidentificaci. A partir de la situaci actual i de les necessitats de les empreses, juntament amb el meravells mn que sembla obrir la tecnologia RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), la principal conclusi a la que sarribar s que malgrat les limitacions tcniques dels codis de barres lineals, aquests es troben completament integrats a tota la cadena logstica grcies a lestandaritzaci i la utilitzaci dun llenguatge com, sota el nom de simbologies GTIN (Global Trade Item Number), durant tota la cadena de subministres que garanteixen total traabilitat dels productes grcies en part a la gesti de les bases de dades i del flux dinformaci. La tecnologia RFUD amb lEPC (Electronic Product Code) supera aquestes limitacions, convertint-se en el mxim candidat per a substituir els limitats codis de barres. Tot i aix, RFID, amb lEPC, no ser un adequat identificador logstic fins que es superin importants barreres, com sn la falta destandaritzaci i lelevat cost dimplantaci.

The identity [r]evolution is happening. Who are you, who am I in the information society? In recent years, the convergence of several factors - technological, political, economic - has accelerated a fundamental change in our networked world. On a technological level, information becomes easier to gather, to store, to exchange and to process. The belief that more information brings more security has been a strong political driver to promote information gathering since September 11. Profiling intends to transform information into knowledge in order to anticipate one's behaviour, or needs, or preferences. It can lead to categorizations according to some specific risk criteria, for example, or to direct and personalized marketing. As a consequence, new forms of identities appear. They are not necessarily related to our names anymore. They are based on information, on traces that we leave when we act or interact, when we go somewhere or just stay in one place, or even sometimes when we make a choice. They are related to the SIM cards of our mobile phones, to our credit card numbers, to the pseudonyms that we use on the Internet, to our email addresses, to the IP addresses of our computers, to our profiles... Like traditional identities, these new forms of identities can allow us to distinguish an individual within a group of people, or describe this person as belonging to a community or a category. How far have we moved through this process? The identity [r]evolution is already becoming part of our daily lives. People are eager to share information with their "friends" in social networks like Facebook, in chat rooms, or in Second Life. Customers take advantage of the numerous bonus cards that are made available. Video surveillance is becoming the rule. In several countries, traditional ID documents are being replaced by biometric passports with RFID technologies. This raises several privacy issues and might actually even result in changing the perception of the concept of privacy itself, in particular by the younger generation. In the information society, our (partial) identities become the illusory masks that we choose -or that we are assigned- to interplay and communicate with each other. Rights, obligations, responsibilities, even reputation are increasingly associated with these masks. On the one hand, these masks become the key to access restricted information and to use services. On the other hand, in case of a fraud or negative reputation, the owner of such a mask can be penalized: doors remain closed, access to services is denied. Hence the current preoccupying growth of impersonation, identity-theft and other identity-related crimes. Where is the path of the identity [r]evolution leading us? The booklet is giving a glance on possible scenarios in the field of identity.

Micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) provide vast improvements over existing sensing methods in the context of structural health monitoring (SHM) of highway infrastructure systems, including improved system reliability, improved longevity and enhanced system performance, improved safety against natural hazards and vibrations, and a reduction in life cycle cost in both operating and maintaining the infrastructure. Advancements in MEMS technology and wireless sensor networks provide opportunities for long-term continuous, real-time structural health monitoring of pavements and bridges at low cost within the context of sustainable infrastructure systems. The primary objective of this research was to investigate the use of MEMS in highway structures for health monitoring purposes. This study focused on investigating the use of MEMS and their potential applications in concrete through a comprehensive literature review, a vendor survey, and a laboratory study, as well as a small-scale field study. Based on the comprehensive literature review and vendor survey, the latest information available on off-the-shelf MEMS devices, as well as research prototypes, for bridge, pavement, and traffic applications were synthesized. A commercially-available wireless concrete monitoring system based on radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology and off-the-shelf temperature and humidity sensors were tested under controlled laboratory and field conditions. The test results validated the ability of the RFID wireless concrete monitoring system in accurately measuring the temperature both inside the laboratory and in the field under severe weather conditions. In consultation with the project technical advisory committee (TAC), the most relevant MEMS-based transportation infrastructure research applications to explore in the future were also highlighted and summarized.
