A regenerative all-optical grooming switch for interconnecting 130 Gbit/s on-off keying (OOK) metro/core ring and 43 Gbit/s-OOK metro/access ring networks with switching functionality in time, space, and wavelength domains is demonstrated. Key functionalities of the switch are traffic aggregation with time-slot interchanging functionality, optical time division multiplexing (OTDM) to wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) demultiplexing, and multi-wavelength 2R regeneration. Laboratory and field demonstrations show the excellent performance of the new concept with error-free signal transmission and Q-factors above 20 dB.

A network concept is introduced that exploits transparent optical grooming of traffic between an access network and a metro core ring network. This network is enabled by an optical router that allows bufferless aggregation of metro network traffic into higher-capacity data streams for core network transmission. A key functionality of the router is WDM to time-division multiplexing (TDM) transmultiplexing.

Objectives - In line with a national policy to move care ‘closer to home’, a specialist children's hospital in the National Health Service in England introduced consultant-led ‘satellite’ clinics to two community settings for general paediatric outpatient services. Objectives were to reduce non-attendance at appointments by providing care in more accessible locations and to create new physical clinic capacity. This study evaluated these satellite clinics to inform further development and identify lessons for stakeholders. Methods - Impact of the satellite clinics was assessed by comparing community versus hospital-based clinics across the following measures: (1) non-attendance rates and associated factors (including patient characteristics and travel distance) using a logistic regression model; (2) percentage of appointments booked within local catchment area; (3) contribution to total clinic capacity; (4) time allocated to clinics and appointments; and (5) clinic efficiency, defined as the ratio of income to staff-related costs. Results - Satellite clinics did not increase attendance beyond their contribution to shorter travel distance, which was associated with higher attendance. Children living in the most-deprived areas were 1.8 times more likely to miss appointments compared with those from least-deprived areas. The satellite clinics’ contribution to activity in catchment areas and to total capacity was small. However, one of the two satellite clinics was efficient compared with most hospital-based clinics. Conclusions - Outpatient clinics were relocated in pragmatically chosen community settings using a ‘drag and drop’ service model. Such clinics have potential to improve access to specialist paediatric healthcare, but do not provide a panacea. Work is required to improve attendance as part of wider efforts to support vulnerable families. Satellite clinics highlight how improved management could contribute to better use of existing capacity.

A szakirodalomban található tipikus tanácsadói szerepek, tulajdonságok rendszerezését követően került sor a Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén megyei tanácsadók kompetenciáinak vizsgálatára a tanácsadók, valamint a vállalkozók értékrendje szerint. A nemzetközi összehasonlíthatóság érdekében a szerző, Frank Höselbarth (2000) reprezentatív felmérésében alkalmazott 21 tulajdonság, kompetencia alapján vizsgálta meg a megyei helyzetet 2001-ben és 2005–06-ban is. A szakirodalomban található tipikus tanácsadói tulajdonságok, kompetenciák (tudás, készség, tapasztalat) összefoglalását tartalmazza a németországi felmérésben alkalmazott 21 jellemző. A magyar és német tanácsadók tulajdonságaiban a szerző nem tapasztal lényeges eltérést. Az elméleti és empirikus kutatási eredményei alapján vázolja fel a tanácsadói kompetencia modellt. _______ After the taxonomy of the typical characteristics of consultants, the author made a surveys and analysis of the characteristics of consultants located in Borsod- Abaúj-Zemplén County according to the value systems of consultants and entrepreneurs. In order the maintain international comparability, she applied the 21 factors used in the representative study of Frank Höselbarth (2000) to analyse the situation of B-A-Z County both in 2001 and in 2005-06 as well. The 21 criteria applied in the German study is a summary of the typical characteristics of consultants, found in the literature. The author did not find significant difference in the characteristics of Hungarian and German consultants.

It is argued in this study that current investigations of the role of conflict in shared leadership teams and, thus, teams in which all members have the opportunity to participate in its decision-making process are insufficient as they have focused on the downsides of these conflicts. This study demonstrates that task conflict is beneficial in that it can have positive effects on innovation in teams. It shows that particularly in shared leadership management consultant teams task conflict can stimulate innovation. Therefore, this research investigates the relationships among shared leadership, conflict and innovation. The research develops and empirically tests a conceptual model which demonstrates the relationships between these concepts and for which the inclusion of multiple research methods was essential. The sequential explanatory approach included a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, the order of which can be adapted for other domains of application. The conceptual model was first tested with a sample of 329 management consultants. This was followed by 25, in-depth, face-to-face interviews conducted with individual survey respondents. In addition, weekly meetings of a management consultant team in action were video recorded over several months. This allowed for an in-depth explanation of the findings from the survey by providing an understanding of the underlying processes. The inclusion of observational methods provided a validating role and explained how and why conflicts contributed to the development of team innovation, through the analysis of subtleties and fleeting disagreements in a real-life management consultant team. The results deliver an assessment of the theoretical model and demonstrate that task conflict can allow for additional innovation in management consultant teams operating under a shared leadership structure. A practical model and guidelines for management consultant teams wanting to enhance their innovatory capacities are provided. In addition, a novel-user methodology which includes video observations is developed, with recommendations and steps aiding researchers aiming to employ a similar combination of methods. An original contribution to knowledge is made regarding the positive effects that task conflict can have towards innovation in shared leadership teams. Collaboration and trust are identified as important mediators between shared leadership and task conflict and significant regarding the development of innovation. The effectiveness of shared leadership in reducing negative relationship conflict and the benefits of both shared leadership and task conflict in enhancing innovation are demonstrated.

The study analyzes the need for a four-lane highway between St. Louis and St. Paul, and finds it to be needed; it analyzes the highway's feasibility, and finds it to be feasible; it analyzes alternative design standards and suggests that it be built to expressway standards; and, the study evaluates alternative routes and presents four "finalist" routes for your consideration.
