Les carences en compétences en santé touchent principalement certaines populations à risques en limitant l'accès aux soins, l'interaction avec les soignants et l'autoprise en charge. L'utilisation systématique d'instruments de dépistage n'est pas recommandée et les interventions préconisées en pratique consistent plutôt à diminuer les obstacles entravant la communication patient-soignant. Il s'agit d'intégrer non seulement les compétences de la population en matière de santé mais aussi les compétences communicationnelles d'un système de santé qui se complexifie. Health literacy is defined as "the degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process, and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions." Low health literacy mainly affects certain populations at risk limiting access to care, interaction with caregivers and self-management. If there are screening tests, their routine use is not advisable and recommended interventions in practice consist rather to reduce barriers to patient-caregiver communication. It is thus important to include not only population's health literacy but also communication skills of a health system wich tend to become more complex.

Surgida na literatura em 1974, a information literacy liga-se à necessidade de se exercer o domínio sobre o sempre crescente universo informacional. Incorporando habilidades, conhecimentos e valores relacionados à busca, acesso, avaliação, organização e difusão da informação e do conhecimento. A information literacy é a própria essência da competência em informação. O objetivo deste trabalho é definir a information literacy a partir do entendimento do conceito, objetivos e práticas relacionadas, com ênfase no papel educacional das bibliotecas e do bibliotecário. Inicialmente, apresenta-se a evolução do conceito segundo um referencial histórico. Examina-se a information literacy enquanto processo de interiorização de conhecimentos, habilidades e valores ligados à informação e ao aprendizado. Define-se a expressão, suas características e objetivos. Discutem-se diferentes concepções de information literacy, segundo três referenciais: informação, conhecimento e aprendizado. Em seguida, são elencados pontos relevantes de atuação de bibliotecas e bibliotecários na implementação de uma educação voltada para a information literacy. Explorando a information literacy education, evidencia-se a necessidade de construção de um novo paradigma educacional ante a sociedade atual que incorpore a competência em informação.

Two shallow water late Cenomanian to early Turonian sequences of NE Egypt have been investigated to evaluate the response to OAE2. Age control based on calcareous nannoplankton, planktic foraminifera and ammonite biostratigraphies integrated with delta(13)C stratigraphy is relatively good despite low diversity and sporadic occurrences. Planktic and benthic foraminiferal faunas are characterized by dysoxic, brackish and mesotrophic conditions, as indicated by low species diversity, low oxygen and low salinity tolerant planktic and benthic species, along with oyster-rich limestone layers. In these subtidal to inner neritic environments the OAE2 delta(13)C excursion appears comparable and coeval to that of open marine environments. However, in contrast to open marine environments where anoxic conditions begin after the first delta(13)C peak and end at or near the Cenomanian-Turonian boundary, in shallow coastal environments anoxic conditions do not appear until the early Turonian. This delay in anoxia appears to be related to the sea-level transgression that reached its maximum in the early Turonian, as observed in shallow water sections from Egypt to Morocco. Do muito que já foi publicado sobre o duplo papel de Paul Otlet, parece haver um entendimento majoritário quanto à prevalência do papel de realizador sobre o de visionário. Na medida em que o foco da análise costuma ser direcionado sobre sua capacidade de prever a importância e o impacto da Internet como um sucedâneo da biblioteca universal, a polêmica naturalmente acaba por desbordar os limites (em si mesmos, já tradicionalmente difusos) da ciência da informação. Com esse ponto de vista, o presente ensaio parte de Isabelle Rieusset-Lemarié e tenta buscar, em autores como Michel Foucault, Norberto Bobbio, Hannah Arendt e Pierre Bourdieu, entre outros, novas luzes que, adicionadas àquelas emanadas por artigos já clássicos em nossa área, possam contribuir para gerar novas e repensar tradicionais interpretações sobre os papéis desempenhados pelo grande cientista social belga.

Recent years have witnessed the increasing interest in studies focused on information literacy, which is reflected mainly in the number of publications on the subject and goes beyond the fields of Librarianship and Information Science. The purpose of this paper is, therefore, to offer an outlook, historical and conceptual, of international researches on information literacy, trying to show some of the different ramifications which the discussion on the subject has exhibited in past few years in countries where its process of legitimation is already well established, in order to illuminate possible areas of research and action for the librarian professional. This research indicates that if the initial studies on this topic tended to be devoted to conceptualize it, discussing its relevance and determine the skills and knowledge related to information literacy, in the last decade can be noticed a proliferation of researches aimed at describing initiatives or proposing models in areas beyond the usual field such as Medical Sciences, Law, Politics or Computers, among others. The first results of this research refer to a philosophical and educational perspective of information literacy, which suggests the need for deeper understanding and characterization of information literacy in four dimensions: technical, aesthetic, ethical and political, serving both to competence as to information.

These guidelines were created by a Task Force appointed by the State Library of Iowa and the Iowa Department of Education to provide assistance to local school districts in developing school library programs. These include a summary of the data collected annually by the State Library of Iowa in its Survey of School Libraries. This data will allow local schools to compare themselves in terms of collections, budgets and staffing to schools of similar size throughout the state.

Environmental and depositional changes across the Late Cenomanian oceanic anoxic event (OAE2) in the Sinai, Egypt, are examined based on biostratigraphy, mineralogy, delta(13)C values and phosphorus analyses. Comparison with the Pueblo, Colorado, stratotype section reveals the Whadi El Ghaib section as stratigraphically complete across the late Cenomanian-early Turonian. Foraminifera are dominated by high-stress planktic and benthic assemblages characterized by low diversity, low-oxygen and low-salinity tolerant species, which mark shallow-water oceanic dysoxic conditions during OAE2. Oyster biostromes suggest deposition occurred in less than 50 m depths in low-oxygen, brackish, and nutrient-rich waters. Their demise prior to the peak delta(13)C excursion is likely due to a rising sea-level. Characteristic OAE2 anoxic conditions reached this coastal region only at the end of the delta(13)C plateau in deeper waters near the end of the Cenomanian. Increased phosphorus accumulations before and after the delta(13)C excursion suggest higher oxic conditions and increased detrital input. Bulk-rock and clay mineralogy indicate humid climate conditions, increased continental runoff and a rising sea up to the first delta(13)C peak. Above this interval, a dryer and seasonally well-contrasted climate with intermittently dry conditions prevailed. These results reveal the globally synchronous delta(13)C shift, but delayed effects of OAE2 dependent on water depth.

El concepte d'alfabetització digital ha evolucionat per diverses vies al llarg del temps pel que fa a l'enfocament teòric emprat per a investigar les seves implicacions en l'estudi de la divisió digital de gènere en diversos contextos de la vida real. L'objectiu principal d'aquest document consisteix a fer servir un enfocament interdisciplinari per a analitzar algunes de les llacunes teòriques i empíriques presents en l'estudi de la divisió digital de gènere. S'analitzen alguns dels estudis empírics existents sobre aquesta qüestió i es proposen futures línies de recerca, amb l'objectiu de cobrir algunes de les llacunes en la recerca relacionada amb les implicacions de l'alfabetització digital en l'anàlisi de la divisió digital de gènere.
